SoftAir: Source is a free digital conversion of the AirSoft game, a battle game where characters are real people, a simulation of a modern-war simulation. The key-word of this game is: realism, though it keeps on being faithful to the original simulation game. Forget about a super speed, bunny hopping and so on. Running and jumping get you tired, you get "catched" with a single shot, there are only few elements of the HUD, no crosshair, no lifepoints, no ammo count. while crawling behind enemy lines, you will never think about theese silly things. Hide in the vegetation or in the shadows of the maps and wait for your chance to eliminate your opponents and conquer a key-building, or steal a flag and run away toward your base... suddenly, an ambush! that WAS too easy...
Features:
2 Teams + some special teams based on map type;
6 Strategic Classes: Assault, Support, Sniper, Machine Gunner, Freeman, Coverman;
Choose the best bullet ball color for each map;
Watch BBs bouncing all around in a realistic dinamic;
Deploy over a bipod your Machine Gun, or aim from the ironsight of your Assault Rifle;
Fight in digitally rebuilded airsoft locations, from forests to old factories;
Feel the realism of a real war-game.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
Once again I'm proud to present the new version of SoftAir: Source. This is the third time I restard coding the mod from a fresh and untouched copy of the source code, every time learning from my mistakes and upgrading the mod to a newer, and better status.
This time is much more important, because I'm recoding the whole project using the new source code of the recently released Source Engine 2007. So, expect huge improvements in the game behaviour and possibility.
Recoding everything will grant the game more stability and content in less time. Old bugs will be removed as I'm coding new systems to handle all the mechanics of game. I will no more keep coding delaying the time I will fix the bugs: I'll just fix them as soon as they might appear. I'm also adding a lot of new content for an extra immersion in the game. It has to feel real, and it has to feel funny. The previous version was lacky in content but it was pretty funny due to its innovative gameplay focusing on tactics intead of "ping advantages" and so on. This version will feel exactly like a real Airsoft match.
For instance, talking about immersion, now you can see your own body if you look down, and running and sprinting will drain your stamina more realistically, and the view sways according to the speed. Staying still will refill your stamina quicker. Players hit by bullets will have to run back to their respawn (intead of being magically teleported) to be able to play again.
And, last but not least, it will be featured the Credit System, used to buy upgrades to your weapons (and even new weapon specific for classes), working like Steam Achievements. For instance, capture one area to achieve the laser pointer for the handgun, or kill five enemies in a row to achieve the silencer.
As usual, a lot of collaboration is needed.

There is NEVER enough constructive criticism, as proved by this mod. I'm not 'dissing' or 'bashing' it for the fact that it is airsoft, but because if you would take the term airsoft off the mod, it wouldn't really be any different to a mediocre CS clone. That's what's wrong with it.
It needs *new* ideas... What does this have? There *are* other airsoft mods, most with much more new content and features than this one because they don't try to ride the 'airsoft' train bur rather are making a mod about it... Instead of just taking a random mod and changing all guns and ammo into bb's and make it so people don't 'die'(more accurate would be to say people don't get blood on their ragdolls when they die).
If only the line 'if you don't like it, don't use it' worked in real life, we'd have much less problems... Either way it's pretty blissful to say that this mod doesn't need constructive criticism, considering there's nothing that makes it stand out. Or are you just exhibiting the typical ignorant fan praise like i was talking about earlier, the kind that usually makes bad mods even worse if the authors listen to those comments.
Oh, yeah, you did praise it blindly with no criticism whatsoever. This mod, even if it was good is far from perfect, and only perfect things don't need criticism, hence the term perfect.
If you want to criticize this mod then leave. There is no point of any people that just want to talk crap about this mod. Please just let everyone who likes it comment. There is room for only SOME constructive criticism. If you don't like it you don't have to look at this mod ever again. There is something called "Back".
Thanks Darkstorn, people don't realize that they're not helping the development team at all by giving them ultimate praise. It's not like I'm bashing the mod, either. A good dev team listens to criticism and improves their game based on what people say. By telling the developers that they have a perfect mod, you're doing more harm than good. I'm curious to see whether or not this game will overcome the many inherent flaws an airsoft video game has. Some things I definitely want to see, if the devs decide to finish this, is a choice of what kind of magazines to use. Unfortunately, people like myself use lowcap magazines because reloading in a firefight is fun. You can't emulate that in a videogame, but having a choice between high caps and midcaps would be nice. Maybe have the high caps rattle when you walk around. I'd also like to see a very accurate customization system for the weapons. The ability to pick different gear sets, motors, barrels, hop up systems, etc., as well as various aesthetic aspects would be pretty cool, and would give someone an incentive to keep playing to gain money. Even with all of that, I'd still rather go outside and airsoft then come back inside and play a shooter than play an airsoft video game. I'll just keep giving suggestions so that those who want to play it have an accurate experience.
Yeah, those who think the idea is pointless are automatically haters but those who randomly and with blind eyes praise the mod, then they're right. Ever heard of constructive criticism guys? It's the kind that is NOT like a typical praise comment. It tells what's wrong with it rather than making the authors believe they're doing something well when they are not.
Anyways, like JN said, what's the point? First of all, since it's a computer game the only differences to a non-airsoft game would be the bb's, the fact that nobody dies and possibly high cap magazines(which, btw, are NEVER used in proper games, mostly because they make so much sound). What forbids people from making a mod like the previous poster said but without airsoft guns? Does it just have to be airsoft for the sake of being airsoft? Seems like so, there doesn't seem to be any new ideas to the mod.
In fact this seems like a modification for CS: S, no custom models, barely any custom textures... Well, maybe the BB's... And edited skins for player models.
I say it again; What is the point of making an airsoft mod for a computer game when the very point of airsoft is to simulate real combat? Now you're simulating simulation of real combat....
You could just make an actual war/SWAT/CS type of game with the exact same additions as in this mod(, especially since it seems to be pretty basic mod with not much new to the endless amount of almost identical mods...
I used to play airsoft(now i'm too poor to continue :) ) and i still think this idea is sad and geeky. I just cannot see the point. People play airsoft so they could experience something similar to real combat. Why would people play this mod? To pretend like they're playing airsoft?
I understand most of you probably just aren't old enough to understand but this mod is only airsoft for the sake of being airsoft. Without the bb's and red tips on guns you'd just have a random CS clone mod with barely any custom content.
don't listen to the haters
i play airsoft in real life and i'm realy looking forward to this mod,as are my teammates
i think this mod will be a verry good training tool for real airsoft teams to practice their tactics when there's no skirmishes to go to.me and my teammates have been talking about making a mod like this,altho we were thinking of making it for SWAT4,but we all play HL2 too,so now all we have to do is wait untill this mod is released and make a map of our HQ for this :) ...so thank you for making this mod!
keep up the good work!
cheers
yeah, i can understand where people are coming from, you play airsoft because you can't shoot bullets at each other, and you play games cause you can. (hypothetically) Jn has a good point, it will be like a shooter without any gun noise and plastic balls.
Paintball games do (sort of) well because paintball equipment is unique. Airsoft guns look exactly like real guns, so this will basically be the same as any shooting game except that the guns will look boring when they shoot, as will the people who get shot. You might as well just make a super realistic shooter set in CQB situations, though realistic games are niche games still because that's not what the majority of gamers want to play. I've talked to a lot of members of the airsoft community, and even they say they don't think an airsoft game will fare well. I still wish you good luck, though. I'm just warning you that there isn't a lot of demand for an airsoft game.
stay true with your mod, dont listen to all the haters who want it to be like COUNTER STRIKE SOURCE. anyone heard of digital paintball? that games great and has a thriving community, worse graphics and the players just raise their hands and dissapear. so this game cant be much worse
No need to say there idea is stupid, I play paintball and love paintball games. As for this, it seems like it would be fun and anything they can put under there belt will help them if they plan to go into the game industry.
Meh, a simulation of a simulation sounds pretty bland. As someone said before, people play video games to pretend to shoot real bullets, and people play airsoft to as a military simulation. Most of a game's appeal comes from the visuals, too. Would you rather shoot a guy and see blood fly everywhere, or would you rather see a guy raise his hand and walk off the field. Honestly, this is probably going to be a very niche game that a lot of people won't play. I'm an avid airsofter myself, and one thing I already don't like about this mod is that you reload using the mouse wheel to simulate a high cap. I, and a ton of people who airsoft, absolutely hate high caps. I would hope you would have an option to use normal or mid cap magazines, but right now this game just sounds like it would be better off as a tactical shooter with no blood.
