The aim of this mod is to add in the old locations from ShoC and Clear Sky, and to provide an enhanced and extended gameplay experience while (mostly) sticking to the vanilla storyline. At this point, the mod (v0.45 alpha)contains 37 locations total, approx. 200 weapons, lots of new armors, items, artifacts and anomalies.

Why?

There aren't many mutants in STALKER and they stopped being scary a long time ago I think this is a great adition mainly because spiders can be freaking scary;

you aren't being forced to play the mod, if you don't like a feature don't play it;

It is a standart way to kill any damn criticism - just to say DON'T PLAY! Just... Eeeermh.
New mutants look bad. Hell knight as a controller? Damn, kill me! SPIDERS?! DAMN GIANT SPIDERS IN THE Zone?! Eeerh! Guys, don't add new mutants, as you are not good at that. There are a lot of old mutants - rats, cats, izloms, and so on. Revive them, and stop killing the atmosphere with alive skeletons and so on...

But the old mutants have been used in every single mod made for STALKER, they aren't scary because I have already killed them a million times.

I hate the lack of mutants in this game and I like that the mod adds new enemies to fight.

I have to agree. It kinda weakens the whole atmosphere.

I played a mod for SHOC , Secret Paths or something , and it had these spiders in them.
They're not bad , but I would prefer the mod without them.

Smrtr stated a mod is the reflection of someone's vision on how it should be, if he wants spiders, skeleton dogs and new mutants, he can do it. it is HIS mod, not yours.

Vote me down, but its the truth.

Problem is not in spiders themselves. For example, I don't feel anything bad about these insects, really) Problem is that they look funny. Little spiders would be not bad... (however, I still love mutants created by GSC, and nobody else) but BIG spiders are just like from those old funny horror-films, about radioactive ants, he-he.
Minuses, minuses, minuses. Heheh.
Loner, nah, I won't. But you have to know a word "advice". I just gave smrter an advice, not a total criticism or something. New locations look great. And I don't want to see them ruined with damn giant spiders...
Still, as they are optional, I have only to say Good luck, smrter.

Everyone is allowed an opinion, that's all they are opinion's, As said we may be able to choose what we want when the work is done. At the end of the day variety is great but being able to say yay or nay to particular things is a great feature on it's own. If the final mod has this capability you can't ask for more.

exactly these spiders looks pretty nice. Spiders must be on one, maybe two locations but as it was said all these skeletons,aliens & other sh*t killing stalker's atmosphere and making from game big cup of disgusting cheap soup,that wasn't planned by GSC for sure, so be carefull adding new monsters.

Imho, given typical spider behavior... seeing them just sorta hanging out around each other like this seems slightly unrealistic. Okay, I know I know, it's a post-apocalyptic style shooter, realism is kind of a mute point. But that's always what I liked a lot about stalker, even considering that, there was a lot of it that tried to ground itself in reality. However, with very few exceptions, spiders are very solitary creatures. While the AI for the game may not account for those of a similar class deciding to fight each other (like how blind dogs won't attack each other, etc) maybe 1-2 spiders a level waiting to spring out and do massive damage would be better than a group of them like this. Just my opinion though.

I agree, Spiders should be only on Underground Tunnels and Caves, and in abandonned buildings but that should be rare.

Or in the surface, a single spider hanging near lairs but that should only happen at night.

Thank you sir. I've been waiting for months for someone that backs his anti-spider opinion (even though you don't even seem to be against spiders in the game per se) with an actual argument instead of being rude or outraged.
As for your concern, 3 is the maximum number of spiders I had planned (it's a random spawn between 1 and 3) and they will be generally extremely rare (even optional like all new mutants).

Insects in general could not hurt either; we got plenty of mutated mammals (pigs, rodents, dogs... and yes, even humans!), but insects could as well have mutated. I think it would be a great addition to more wooden area or marshes (like giant mosquitoes or slimey worms) and adding to the atmosphere ^^

they can climb rocks and such, so you can't really run from them. But to make them actually walk on walls and ceilings, I don't think that's possible unless it's a scripted event, I'll look into that.

I agree with delta, three dimensional movement, up into trees, up walls, ceilings, that would be awesome, and since they are mutants and therefor don't have to follow traditional spider behavior, a nest or two spread throughout the various areas would be sweet, cobwebs and stuff would be neat. But a spider falling onto you from a ceiling would be awesome.

Heh, you're welcome smrtphoneusr, and glad to hear that. No, I'm not against them being in game, for me it's just an implementation thing. And I didn't really mean to seem critical, more of just trying to inject spider reality into them. Though there are types of spiders in the Amazon that do form giant communal nests that do not eat each other, but they're as tiny as ants, but I suppose it's not impossible to see cooperative spiders. It's why I spent most of the film "Eight-Legged Freaks" laughing my *** off. Not at the actual in-film jokes, but at the fact there's massive hordes of naturally cannibalistic spiders running around and NOT eating each other. Personally, I would try and fashion them more on ground wandering spiders, they're more likely to be aggressive and try and attack you.

Funnily enough, I absolutely hate spiders (I don't count myself arachnophobic, I get blind hatred to kill them rather than petrifying irrational fear when I see them, haha) so I try and learn as much as I can about them as it helps me avoid them. Personally, I'll probably end up going to the underground levels now for the express purpose of killing them, haha. I was just putting in my two cents as an amateur spider expert is all.

Since a lot of people don't seem to have the patience to read the mod summary till the end, i'll put it shortly:
This and all the other new mutants are OPTIONAL.
