Slums 2 is episode 2 engine`s mod. Nine maps, dark and creepy. Nothing innovative in gameplay, but still good regular shooter.

Slums 2 was created by only two men, who were inspired by Silent Hill, Condemned, FEAR games. Mod does not provide new weapons or some special features.

It was 2010 year when the last version of Slums was released. But today, when i got much more experience in level design and painting i decided to remake first 2 maps from original Slums mod (2007).

The first one map is half remaked and i will proceed to work on levels when i will get free time and inspiration. You will see absolutely new fresh and polished Slums with some gameplay and graphics changes, which should like everyone. Some areas (or maybe most of them) will be changed completely. Also, Slums will contain several new puzzles to solve.

The main goal is to make my mod more unique and far from HL2 style (while using HL2 weapons and hostile NPC`s).

Because it will be on 2013 Source engine you will not need to purchase any HL2 game. It will be absolutely free for everyone who have Steam and installed Source SDK 2013 Singleplayer tool (which is also for free).

Here are some screenshots.

I don't know if anyone else is having this problem, but whenever I boot up Slums 2 from the Steam interface, it just starts up as the standard Half Life 2: Episode 2 game. The starting screen is the same, all of my saves are still there, and hitting new game starts you off just as if you were pretty much playing Half Life 2, instead of the mod. I've tried uninstalling the mod, closing down Steam, and re-installing and subsequently rebooting Steam, only to receive the same results. I've even tried re-downloading the file itself from Moddb, to see if maybe my internet connection died out at some point or a file was skipped. Nope.

I've tried using Google as well, but it seems that no one else has had this same problem that I'm having, so can anyone here help me out a bit?

the other way to play Slums 2 is to put all files and folders of mod to your
Steam\SteamApps\$YourAccountName\half-life 2 episode two\ep2
and then launch Ep2 with "map slums_1" typed in console

honestly, i don`t see any way to fix this problem.

maybe you should reinstall whole Steam with all games you have (or just Ep2).

Great mod, as you said nothing new in the gameplay, but sure fun, challenging to, wonder if you will make a 3rd part to finish it off with a trilogy :D

"Slums 2 is episode 2 engine`s mod."

So to play this you need Half-Life 2: Episode 2?

If so, why is it under Half-Life 2, and not Episode 2 here on ModDB?

Oh, sorry. Yeah I thought I had made a mistake on that comment because I was looking for it all day. Thanks to google, I found it and see you listed it under Ep 2. Shame, because I don't own any of the Episodes. :(

Maybe this sounds stupid, but can I play this if I don't have EP2? I have other source games, such as Team Fortress 2 and Left 4 Dead 2

This looks pretty interesting, but I've got a quick question. What is/where can I find Slums 1. Was it like a mod for Goldsrc or something? I was just curious because I'd like to try out the first one and then try this, especially if this mod is heavy on the plot side of things.

Slums 1 is hl2 original mod of 2007 year
I do not recommend to play this, but if you are just curious, you can check out.

Slums 2 is a fairly short, yet incredibly detailed mod. Gameplay mostly revolves around generic shooting. This may seem boring at first glance, but the general gunplay is from tried and proven Half-Life 2. AI placement is great, considering the cramped setting of the slums. The lack of a story definitely hurt the mod. Adding a simple plot line to explain the strange intro dream, and why the character is fighting his way out of the slums, would greatly increase the immersion. Atmosphere in this mod…

At first i found this mod quite interesting, nice level design, good atmosphere, but after the 5 minute mark I got bored there's no true mission, only shooting combine people like 'Painkiller'. Even then, with 'Painkiller' there were still interesting thing to do like find hidden collectible or get weapons that are interesting I mean, guys who developed Slums 2 you can at least put some new weapons or interesting scripted events which would have blown mind away. Overall it's derivative in nature…
