SkyFi - Homes 1.0
Apr 9, 2012 Full Version 7 commentsHey all, just a quick mod I made for personal use mainly but I plan on expanding on it at some point in the far future. This will also be a testing ground...
Welcome to the main source on information for SkyFi, a sci-fi Skyrim experience! This mod will include many different science fiction TV shows, movies, etc, which you may or may not have heard of. These include but are certainly not limited to - Stargate, Star Wars, Doctor Who and Battlestar Galactica. Once the first version of the mod is released (which is the very bare bones of the first new areas) I will try to release regular updates, probably varying between 1 week to a month at a time depending entirely on how much content is in each update.
The team currently consists of me and *SGU*TheDestiny, who has recently joined the team as a modeler. We are still looking for a texture artist since we only have very simple textures for most items at the moment. If you are interested in helping out then send me a message to let me know what you can do, I will be handling majority of the Creation Kit things but I would be happy to have others adding worlds too. Decent knowledge of any of the sci-fi involved would be great but not required.
There is far too much to try and fit into this description on exactly what will be in the mod, there will be more and more over time as each release goes by, this has led me to the stage where I am considering writing up a wiki for all the little details on everything added in the mod, when the wiki is public I will replace this text with a link to the wiki.
The first release of the mod is out and contains the bare bones of Cheyenne which is going to be the central location for most of the Stargate section of the mod and possible some of the other sections too. The second release is currently being worked on and will contain the first planet, there is currently slightly outdated screenshot in the gallery which show the area around the Stargate, this small, enclosed zone is only the entry to a world about the size of Skyrim. A ravaged world which is teaming with life, the life is not exactly what you would call friendly though. The world is occupied by the Goa'uld and you have the option to join them or fight them, up to you.

Well, so far it's looking good on the Doctor Who part of this mod, not quite the level of realism as Fallout Who Vegas as quite frankly the 11th time I went through that form of travel I was on the verge of allowing the Death Claws outside the doors to eat me alive. It's a great mod and all, don't get me wrong he's doing a phenomenal job, just the TARDIS controls are a little repetitive for my tastes. If you are interested in playing a damn good Doctor Who mod for New Vegas then here it is.
Now back to the update, the TARDIS is at a state where I have been able to try out a few methods of transportation, which at the moment is completely random. Adding an actual control for landing is a bit of a complication with the limited menu function built into the game, creating a new menu screen is currently outside of my abilites though so I will have to think of a way to wrap the selection into it no matter how annoying it is. The texturing on the interior is far from complete so no screenshots yet (rather not post WIP shots as it does not look any good at the moment). I've been busy since the 'Journey to the Center of the TARDIS' episode, recreating the coridoors and rooms seen, made all the easier by the BBC posting concept art of the set, measurements and everything needed really.
The more spectacular rooms like the swimming pool and observation room are in progress still, being as large and unique as they are, I am doing my best to keep the poly count low but it is getting more and more difficult. At this rate almost every room will need to be separated through a load door to keep it from lagging on even the most beastly of computers.
As I'm sure it has already been noticed I've not been speaking much about anything non-DW related lately I'll move on to the changes I've been unsure whether or not to go ahead with. I'm still not sure about doing this change or not but I'm putting it out there to see how it would be recieved.
First of all I will note clearly that this is not already done or even decided, I am unsure if I should or not. Second, consider the pro's and con's of the changes before screaming at me for even thinking it. Right, the first big thing is that I am thinking on splitting the mod completely, separating them over different games, keeping Doctor Who on Skyrim and the rest placed into the most appropriate games for the functions and whichever one will proved the best end result.
What would most likely happen is that I will return Stargate to Fallout 3/New Vegas, where guns would be incredibly easy to add and the model importing is done in a fraction of the time it takes in Skyrim, leading to a much quicker release. Battlestar Galactica would also be a possible candidate for placing in Fallout.
Star Wars would possibly be left in Skyrim, although having it in a Fallout game would also be a lot easier and quicker. I might even go as far as to say that I would be willing to do a lot more content for it if I was to transfer to F3/NV.
So basically a large portion of the mod would be pushed into Fallout 3 or New Vegas, pro's being that it would be faster, easier and I would have to deal with a fraction of the amount of crashing in the G.E.C.K than with the Creation Kit. There's also the fact most of the mod would need guns to be at it's best quality, which Skyrim is sorely lacking. A graphical plus to going back to F3/NV means the Stargate puddle (Event Horizon) will be fully animated. Cons obviously being that the progress currently made on Skyrim in the Stargate section will need to be redone and reworked slightly to fit the game better but I guarantee that even doing that it would be out sooner that it would be on Skyrim. To be honest the only reason I pushed the mod into Skyrim in the first place was because I thought it would be just the same process and would simply have better functions and nicer graphics, I was wrong and it turns out it is much more difficult.
I'll be making the decision at the end of the month, comments and opinions from the community will be taken seriously and will factor into the decision. I'll be continuing purely with Doctor Who until this is decided so as not to waste any time if the transfer to Fallout for the others is going to happen.
Hey all, just a quick mod I made for personal use mainly but I plan on expanding on it at some point in the far future. This will also be a testing ground...
Here is a different module of SkyFi, this can be used with or without the main SkyFi mod and the only reason it is separate is because it isn't technically...
Here is the first release, not complete as I lost yesterdays progress thanks to my oh so wonderful chunk of metal some call a computer. I thought it best...
Here is the first MiniMod for SkyFi, a complete weapon, craftable at any forge, using 6 Firewood and 12 Iron Ingots, the high-ish cost is to balance the...
well, this is looking awsome, i like the idea of the mod :). Btw, if you need help with models i could help ya with something (altho i am not so good with textures yet so cant help there lol). I was making an Stargate/sci-fi mod for Morrowind while back, but it stopped due no time nor help to compleate it lol.
If you want, i can give SG-1 gate and SG-A gate as well (wtih DHD's, i think they should work with little tweaking since both are kinda same engine games lol). Like here is SG-1 one: Moddb.com .Did not have time to put in the SGA one so dont have pics of it. Moddb.com .Here and onwards i have some stuff that i already put in morrowind, but the textures are kinda crappy i think lol (just some tweaked textures and no UVW build n such lol).
Anyways contact if you wanna have models or help or such lol :)
TheDestiny
Thanks for the offer :D I will keep it in mind but for now I have all the models I need to get the Stargate section done, I have decided to stick with the SGU gate and have re-modeled it to be more detailed already, the only parts I actually need at the moment are textures lol, I have been doing ok texturing myself but they could look a lot better.
Mmk lol, i can make almost any stargate related things from weapons of SG series to spaceships and consoles lol (well, i am a space ship modeller, so i have lots of those, and props as well for some other games i have made). Anyways if you want any other SG gate or something i am well connected over the modeller community, then gimme pm lol :D
Oh, and btw you should use the hand held DHD since you are using SGU gate, would be more realistic :) And maybe add some ancient environmental suits seen in show as armor, i have those modelled ready as well lol.
If anyone feels like making this mod's page look better with some fancy formatting then feel free to get in contact with me, I haven't wanted to spend much time with this page since I would rather be working on models and textures for the mod than images for this site so it would be a big help :)
Will be resting SkyFi progress for a couple of days, gotten to a point where I feel it would be better if I went and did a couple of small mods to focus on certain aspects of modding like making a quest line, fully interactive companions, spells and the like.
Good news being that the more I practice on smaller mods, the better the content in SkyFi will be. Since I am also doing models for a couple of other Nightman Games projects my modelling skills are improving a little...texturing not so much hehe :)
You used the universe gate from the sketchup warehouse?
I just looked that one up, the texture on it is identical almost, I got that from google since I did it for speed but nope, model is quite different.
Nope, I slapped a texture on a circle in max and pushed out the chevrons. Will be either the SG1 or SGA one in the end as I prefer them but they both need a lot more work.
just follow the road out of markath and keep an eye out for a doorway on the other side of the river... took me a little while to find
I added a map marker to make it easier :) should have done it for 1.0 really, sorry
