Frequently Asked Questions

What version of Sins of a Solar Empire is supported?
Sins of the Fallen is a modification for Rebellion.

How do you install and activate Sins of the Fallen?
Please read How to install and activate Sins of the Fallen.

Why does your mod have so many folders?
As Sins of a Solar Empire is a 32bit game it is restricted to 2GB of ram utilization as well as other various hard coded limitations. The stacking structure used with this mod allows more than 2GB of content by allowing portions of the mod to be loaded.

Will you support Diplomacy, Entrenchment or Vanilla?
No, I did have previous versions that supported Entrenchment and Diplomacy (See Release History), but have decided the it was too much effort for one person to try and maintain both.

I hear you have a BSG mod too, why isn't it posted here?
For various reasons moddb used to not host BSG mods, therefore the downloads hosted on this page do not currently contain any BSG related content. Click on either of the Fall of Kobol images to be redirected to the that mod.

Sins of the Fallen

Sins of the Fallen is one of the largest mods for Sins of a Solar empire boasting 6 unique expansion factions added to the already existing 3 vanilla.

A new video made by Gul-dukat(tech) giving an overview of how to properly activate the mod. Thanks Gul-dukat(tech)!

I've been so pre-occupied lately I had no idea these videos existed. Pretty cool to see...

"Great mod, but worst and most confusing install process I've ever gone through."

Unfortunately, copying in research subjects from another mod will not have the desired effect you want unless they are named exactly as research in my mod. Make an account and let me know what you are trying and I might be able to help you out.

The effects folder does add much of bailknights effects. I believe some of the explosions got backed out due to compatibility with Rebellion but the rest is there.

Okay i'm in :) i tried it and it works surprisingly well except for the gas planet colonization which shows string no found but all the other works well. What i wonder now is that the custom races are now weak because these researches are for the base races.

I just tried the effects and it's the same. i tested the vasari and the phase missiles and waves are still the old ones.

You are right, the new factions would need to have their research increased as well.

On the artifacts, It appears the Wave cannon travel and hit effect file name was changed with Rebellion. This package was based off the names they had defined in Diplomacy. I'll have to look and see if this can be normalized.

Oops! well now it seems to minidump everytime the mod loads. I tried fixing it but i couldn't. I don't know what i did wrong. That's okay no drama i'll scrap my modifications.

On a side note, do you have plans on making the races of sins of the fallen compatible with the newest version of distant stars?
Ricksgalaxy.com
i think it was done long ago for diplomacy.

If it can help, i am using "BailknightsGMod-v3.2R-RG" on top of my mod list and it looks like it works well. It is the updated version for rebellion.
You can probably use the files from this version instead of renaming or reediting the files yourself of an older version

Copy the GalaxyScenarioDef into the galaxy forge directory for the pack you want to make the map for. Once the map is created place it in the pack's Galaxy folder (create if it doesn't exist). Then edit the galaxy.manifest in the SotF(5) Core(1..1) Reb adding the map entry and increase the count appropriately.

so what do the bonus density in addons mean? also does effects just add effects? XD

ZombiesRus5 Apr 6 2015, 11:55am replied:

Bonus density modifies stock maps to increase the amount of random artifacts and planet bonuses. Effects adds Bailknights effects and sounds which makes the effects a bit bigger than stock.

planet bonuses O_O what are those don't think ive seen those.

also what does the artifact mod do?

ZombiesRus5 Apr 10 2015, 4:28pm replied:

Planet bonuses are typically found when you search for artifacts on planets by purchasing the upgrade, though some bonuses appear on colonization. The artifact mod adds some random capturable units for early game exploration. As the game progresses these artifacts are typically lost.

Yes, I'm not real happy with the texture for the available model, but I might still end up putting it in.
