Frequently Asked Questions

What version of Sins of a Solar Empire is supported?
Sins of the Fallen is a modification for Rebellion.

How do you install and activate Sins of the Fallen?
Please read How to install and activate Sins of the Fallen.

Why does your mod have so many folders?
As Sins of a Solar Empire is a 32bit game it is restricted to 2GB of ram utilization as well as other various hard coded limitations. The stacking structure used with this mod allows more than 2GB of content by allowing portions of the mod to be loaded.

Will you support Diplomacy, Entrenchment or Vanilla?
No, I did have previous versions that supported Entrenchment and Diplomacy (See Release History), but have decided the it was too much effort for one person to try and maintain both.

I hear you have a BSG mod too, why isn't it posted here?
For various reasons moddb is no longer hosting any BSG mods, therefore the downloads hosted on this site will never contain any BSG related content.

Sins of the Fallen

Sins of the Fallen is one of the largest mods for Sins of a Solar empire boasting 6 unique expansion factions added to the already existing 3 vanilla.

A new video made by Gul-dukat(tech) giving an overview of how to properly activate the mod. Thanks Gul-dukat(tech)!

I've been so pre-occupied lately I had no idea these videos existed. Pretty cool to see...

"Great mod, but worst and most confusing install process I've ever gone through."

There is no room for more factions. The hard coded limits are nearly exceeded.

I'm not confident that mod won't get yanked as of yet. One was created last year that was yanked a few weeks later.

Well,There's A BSG Mod For Homeworld, Moddb.com
I Think ModDB Finally Unbanned It.

A couple other mods had snuck through in the past. Unless moddb publicly blesses the BSG mod I'm not sure it's worth risking uploading BSG mods here as they'll yank the entire mod page.

In terms of the Fall of Kobol mod I have a few questions, possible suggestions, and a few minor issues if you don't mind.

Sure! I'm the only modder for this whole thing, so being open to suggestions is important as it's easy to get tunnel vision.

I do enjoy what you did with the cylons. A creative touch by making all the different basestar variants.
The texture issue I had mentioned before can be disregarded. Must have been the version at the time. For the most part the cylons are pretty much complete. Each of the basestars are well modeled topped with great effects. Probably the best touch for the cylons for me is that the resurrection ships and the colony do just what their supposed to from the show.

It was a real challenge finishing the Colonial and Cylon factions as the original Sins of the 13th Tribe was less than half complete model wise and had major texture issues on several models outside of the Coxxon variants. There just aren't many good BSG modellers out there due to what NBCU did to the modding community. That said I did get most of the new models and textures from a modeller named Koobalt. In addition I remastered almost all the original models either with new textures or adding in missing turrets or other such details. At this point model/texture wise, FoK is WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) currently.

And yes the Mercury and Columbia are by far the best as they are Coxxon models. Thor is Koobalt but is very dark unfortunately. The Cygnus, Nova and Valkyrie were untextured when acquired. I painted the Cygnus myself and found base textures to work from for the Nova and Valkyrie. I wish the Nova looked better too but I am a coder by skillset and only hobbyist when it comes to modeling/texturing.

Any new models or models, given permission to use, are always welcome assuming they can be imported error free and within limits (and fit the mod).

I'll help out if I can. I've never done modeling before but I'm up for a fresh challenge. My friends use Blender but I'm not sure if it can work on Sins. Is there a program you would recommend?

Any modelling program is find as long as it can export to wavefront (obj) or lightwave (lwo). The models have to be imported into XSI to perform all the wiring for Sins regardless of what program the model was created in.

I really enjoy the mod for starters. Battlestar is probably my favorite tv series next to DS9.
I dont know if this is just for me but I have noticed a texture issue with a couple of the basestars. I have to ask if its possible to give the models some more detail. When playing as the colonials I stick to Mercury and Columbia battlestars for being the most visually appealing in my opinion.
Had an idea for what I would change to this mod by changing a few ships around and adding some fan made ships like the Theseus from Diaspora and the Minerva battlestar. Unfortunately I'm still new to modding as I still have much to learn.
