Texture Pack BETA
Feb 5, 2012 Patch 7 commentsQuick and dirty readme... To "install" this pack, just drop it into your DeusEx\System folder. That's it. Gives textures for the RoF mod, light rocket...
"Removing the suck from Deus Ex." It's an odd slogan, but that's what Shifter does, what little of it there is. In my opinion anyway. A little mod that started off as an effort to get the damn laser sight to turn on automatically now includes additional augmentations, unique weapons, new game mechanics, bugfixes, restored game content, and even a complete and working alt-fire option for almost every weapon. All of this, seamlessly integrated into the existing game, capable of running simultaneously with almost any other Deus Ex mod. Play your favorite mod, then play it again, "Shifter-ized".
For those of you who are sticklers for actual, quantifiable advantages, here are a few features which Shifter brings to Deus Ex:
I've spent far more time on this mod than any other project I've ever undertaken, and I don't see myself stopping anytime soon. I may get distracted from time to time, or be mostly happy with a release only to find a few flaws in it several months down the road, but I will never abandon the mod. The day I stop maintaining Shifter is the day after the Deus Ex modding community officially dies.
For those of you who are brave, check out my Savefile Project Folder from time to time. It's where I store various "snapshot" builds of Shifter as I add features between releases. You'll get to play with new goodies between the official releases, at the slight cost of having to deal with possible bugs, crash-tacular errors, and other beta-esque things.

So I realize it's been a while since I updated here. Or showed up here. Or really did anything much Shifter-related.
First off, no the mod is not dead. Let me tell you what's going down.
I've been unfaithful to Deus Ex.
For the first time in, oh, ever, I am actually modding a CURRENT game. It may not be apparent, but I typically get my hands on a game and mod it a good year or so after most people have stopped caring. This time the game in question came out with their SDK the day of its release, and I had the game in-hand the day of release. After playing it for, oh, five minutes it became blisteringly clear that there was plenty of modding opportunity here.
The monkey wrench in the works, as it is, is that this game is Fallout: New Vegas.
As you might understand, there's a LOT of content here to be played with. There's also quite a need for mods, but more importantly third-party bug fixes. More and more that's the kind of content for the game that I'm putting out: things that fix some of the laundry list of bugs the game has at the moment.
Now, I STILL am going to come back to this mod, that you can count on. There's changes I've made that need to be compiled into a new version and released, which I will hopefully do here soon. Beyond that it may be some time before I'm really actively modding Deus Ex. This is ESPECIALLY true because Human Revolution comes out early next year, and I expect to be doing nothing but playing that for a good few weeks, and (assuming its moddable) modding it for several weeks or months after that. In between all of that I hope to put in some work here and there on Shifter, but it will be VERY spotty.
So, in short, sorry I've been gone, I'll put up what changes I've made here in a few weeks, and if Human Revolution is at ALL moddable expect me to dive headfirst into that as soon as possible.

This is just a quick and dirty release of Shifter v1.8.4. At least, it's probably Shifter v1.8.4. It's stable, it has a number of changes (mostly bugfixes...
Mostly the same as v1.8.2: At least 80% support for The Nameless Mod, plus a few other bugfixes and some minor features compared to v1.8.1. The only difference...
You should really make another version, try not to crash the player models this time, i give it a 8/10.
Another thing with the mutations mod:
Freewebs.com
The mod a complex system for gaining access to important areas, and one of the things is login details are delivered daily by couriers, and after using those login details you transmit necessary login details to a datacube.
The problem is prior to having the information transmitted the data cubes have nothing on them, and if you frob them before transmitting the info then Shifters "pick up data cubes" code overwrites it and every time you frob the cube you'll try to pick it up[ instead of reading it.
One other thing of note
The save game preview image is missing under shifter mod, but present in non-shifter deus ex.
Can someone tell me how to play in unrealistic mode? I can't figure it out. Do you have to chose a specific portrait or something?
And I've got an idea for improving the swimming skill.
Change the name of "swimming" to "enhanced metabolism", it retains the bonuses of swimming but adds this functionality :
>Unskilled - Nothing
>Trained - regenerate 2 bio-electric energy per second while remaining still
>Skilled - regenerate 2 bio-electric energy per second while still or moving slowly (crouch walk, normal walk)
>Master - regenerate 2 bio-electric energy per second always.
If that is too complex to programme just add a flat BE-regeneration always and scale up from 1/sec at trained, and improve by 1/ level.
I figured out how to play in unrealistic, nvm.
Just a quick note
In shifter v1.8.3 using steam deusex goty, some of the npc's have purple IFF tags rather than green for friendly
Effected NPC's noticed so far:
Tech Sargent Kaplin outside UNATCO HQ
Pilot Guy (Jock) in Underworld bar
Rooks in upper floor of abandoned subway
It's more of a blue, and it represents a NPC as "neutral"

For those with steam copy of deusex
The standard install of extracting the archive to your deusex\system folder works fine.
If however you want to use the advanced install it won't work with the deusex.exe file that the steam copy comes with (63KB).

(search google for "steam deusex shifter mod advanced install" without the quotes)
That explains why steam sucks.
