Shifter v1.8.3
Nov 02, 2009 Full Version 1 commentMostly the same as v1.8.2: At least 80% support for The Nameless Mod, plus a few other bugfixes and some minor features compared to v1.8.1. The only difference...
"Removing the suck from Deus Ex." It's an odd slogan, but that's what Shifter does, what little of it there is. In my opinion anyway. A little mod that started off as an effort to get the damn laser sight to turn on automatically now includes additional augmentations, unique weapons, new game mechanics, bugfixes, restored game content, and even a complete and working alt-fire option for almost every weapon. All of this, seamlessly integrated into the existing game, capable of running simultaneously with almost any other Deus Ex mod. Play your favorite mod, then play it again, "Shifter-ized".
For those of you who are sticklers for actual, quantifiable advantages, here are a few features which Shifter brings to Deus Ex:
I've spent far more time on this mod than any other project I've ever undertaken, and I don't see myself stopping anytime soon. I may get distracted from time to time, or be mostly happy with a release only to find a few flaws in it several months down the road, but I will never abandon the mod. The day I stop maintaining Shifter is the day after the Deus Ex modding community officially dies.
For those of you who are brave, check out my Savefile Project Folder from time to time. It's where I store various "snapshot" builds of Shifter as I add features between releases. You'll get to play with new goodies between the official releases, at the slight cost of having to deal with possible bugs, crash-tacular errors, and other beta-esque things.

Okay, so the whole "Demo Version" issue is something which quite eludes me. I'm not sure why my code - which works on most installs, by the way - randomly doesn't work, but there it is. After trying a few alternatives I've decided to give up on that feature. I'm releasing the result as v1.8.3.
This version is free of the game-stopping bug where it tells you to buy the full version, despite the fact that you are already playing it. As a consequence anybody who tries to install this on a Demo version of the game won't be able to play it "Shifter-ized" without some extra work and typing things in via the console. If any of you who this applies to can't figure it out, feel free to talk to me and I'll walk you through it.
Anyway, while ModDB approves the file you can download v1.8.3 from here.

Some bugs to mention, the stealth pistol makes no sound when using Explosive ammunition, which makes no sense. The explosions should make heaps of noise.
Not to mention the stealth pistol does more damage then it did before which makes it way better then the standard pistol. especially the Lo Bruto.
So the stealth pistol in opinion has become over powered.
also is it possible to install a light version of shifter, don't only includes exploit and glitch fixes??
alot of people love playing Vanilla Deus Ex, perhaps Y|yukichigai could compile this... only exploit and glitch fixes for Vanilla Deus Ex, call it Shifter Light version.
Does anyone know the summon command for the Light Rocket ammunition ?
thank for Y|yukichigai for telling me this..
For the ILAW, to summon its ammo, use the AmmoRocketMini command. Also to summon the super secret weapon, use the WeaponPrototypeSword command.
also the summon command for the dragon breath shells is AmmoDragon.
I wasn't able to find any of these commands in the readme. If Y|yukichigai can please put these in the readme of the next version of the mod that would be great.
Where can I download the optional Shifter texture pack ???
And what textures do i get in it ?
don't worry found it here Savefile.com
Hum with that thing we need less buttons, and we are always able to use the normal controls, but if it's unnecessary, I won't insist, but I just think it can be an additional improvement, if it's really one
good work on fixing the "lock pick and multi tool pause game" exploit, as well as the Pistol Downgrade trick.
another honorable mention is fixing up the Game Of The Year edition glitches. as a proud owner of the GOTY version I'm very happy to see these the glitches fixed.
I'm referring to the Buddha statute in the glass case in maggie chows apartment that doesn't move. and the missing music in Hell's Kitchen the last time you make it back.
apart from those good fixes I'm a bit unhappy about the skill point deductions for killing friendlies, which makes no sense. As well as lack of inventory system when picking things up off corpses, this game badly needs it, none of this automatically picking things up from corpses. Make this your next objective for the next version.
I hate those annoying cats, when i step on one it turns into a enemy. so when i step on them again and they die I get skill points for it??? what in gods name?
PS - can you increase the damage of the Assault Rifle, always hated that gun for being utterly useless.
