Science and Industry is a teamplay mod for Half-Life, in which players assume the role of Security Officer in one of two rival corporations striving for domination in the cutthroat world of chemical and weapons research and development.

As security officer, it is your job to acquire and protect your company's most valuable human resources -- scientists. Scientists conduct research and develop new products, bringing your company profit. Conveniently, the products your company's scientists develop take the form of new weapons that you and your fellow security officers can use to pound the other company into submission.

Your company needn't be happy just letting it's small staff of scientists toil away at new developments when there are plenty more scientist resources ripe for the picking at the competition. Stealing scientists from your rivals is a great way to boost productivity and keep those new weapons coming, but of course your competition has the same tactics in mind. So defending your company's scientists is just as important as "finding" new ones. Of course, the vagaries of particle physics are difficult to ponder in the middle of a firefight, so if you expect your scientists to be productive, you'd better keep the fight as far from them as possible.

A Selection of Features:

- Interaction with NPC's in multiplayer -- scientists inform you of their needs, and what they think of your performance.
- Profit based not frag based -- the company with the most cash on hand and the most bleeding edge technologies wins.
- Death comes with a price -- instead of respawning players are brought back to life with expensive cloning techniques, which will cost your company cold, hard cash.
- Dynamic game balance -- each round begins with only the most basic weapons, and each team gains access to new weapons based on the success of their research facilities.
- Consistency of design and theme reminiscent of single player experience
- Custom "2 Fort"-style maps
- And much, much more... (no, really)

A new version of the oldschool teamplay mod for Half-Life Science And Industry has just been released. For those unfamiliar with the mod, S&I is a unique game where two corporations compete for control over scientists to grant them new technologies, upgrades, and ultimately to make more profit.

This new version features its share of additions with new movement techniques, an updated HUD, a new announcer, support for alternative game modes, as well as weapon balance changes and bug fixes. The full changelog is available on the Science & Industry website.

Three tutorial movies have been made to make it easier to discover the game: they show the basics, the movements and the weapons and devices.

Here are some screenshots from the game:

the only thing i have against it is the radio music. It can't stop sometimes. Forever in the game.
I've been playing this mod since '99 and loving it. I remember when the transinducer was a TFC silenced pistol.

The S&I Develpment team beleive that v1.0 would be the perfect release, no problems or anything. But the thing is, nothing is ever perfect, there are always changes that can be made since its under constant development, so until the Mod quits production and releases its Final Build, there will not be a v1.0 :)

Every single game is different. The research path your team takes has thousands if not millions of different ways to approach the end of the game. This means that each game will offer a different experiance.

It also means that you can change your research path as you play. Not doing enough damage against your opponents hig armor rating? Research the shotgun for more punch. Do your scientists have crappy efficency? Research the mindray to give them a jump-start.

This mod is a lot like playing out a RTS game out in first person... kind of like how I thought C&C renegade would be, but its MUCH better.

Enough talk. Download it. Be sure to read the manual while you do so. And browse through the tech tree to find the weapons you dont know how to use. S&I is rather dificult to figgure out on your own, and we get the same questions too often :P

This game kicks ***, no questions about it, been playing it for 1-2 years now and I don't see myself leaving any time soon. The community is great and bursting with ideas. Although there isnt LOADS of servers or people I see this as a plus, it means that practically any server I join i'm bound to recognise someone there. This mod is definately worth the download, no matter what your connection.

I just wish more people were out there playing this mod! The quality of the work in it is just amazing, and the gameplay is always different and exciting. So, take some time of TFC, CS, or DoD and give this a shot. It even comes with a great in-game, on the fly tutorial so you can learn as you are playing.

If you ever want to die, just hop on the SCK or blueyonder servers! :)
