Science and Industry 2 is a teamplay modification for Half-Life 2. It is the sequel to the long-running Half-Life modification Science and Industry. Players take on the role of Security Officer in a bitter struggle between two rival corporations in the world of defence technology research.

It is the job of Security Officers to acquire and protect the company's most valuable resources - the scientists, which develop technologies for the company, and the technologies themselves. Since it is the technologies and scientists which generate the income for your company, which in turn keeps the company at the leading edge of the business world, these resources are vital to success.

However, the company isn't content with just having its own scientists and technologies - the opposition also has plenty of scientists working for them. Stealing scientists from the opposition is a great way to increase productivity, and keep those new technologies coming thick and fast.

Of course, the opposition has the same idea, so defending the company's existing resources is as important as "recruiting" new ones. Of course, the intricate threads of the universe are difficult to untangle when standing in the middle of a firefight, so for maximum productivity, keep the combat out of the laboratory areas as much as possible.

Features:

  • Success is centered around profit, rather than points - the company with the most advanced technology and the largest profit wins.
  • Stunning and interactive world - utilising the power of the Half-Life 2 engine the Science and Industry universe is brought to life like never before.
  • Dynamic game balance - each round begins with basic weapons only, with each team developing new weapons, armour and enhancements as the game progresses.
  • Player-selected advancements - the next technology researched by the company's science team is determined by a company-wide vote, allowing players to directly affect the progression of technology for their team.
  • Diverse teams - the differences between the two corporations involved in the game are emphasised considerably, with drastically different visual styles for each team.

Hey all, we are finally releasing the 1.1 update. This update fixes a number of things people had issues with in 1.0, as well as adds a little bit of new content. Some of the changes include:

  • Fixed not seeing what direction other players are facing
  • Fixed scientists not respawning if they get thrown out of the map
  • Fixed the AFD Pistol skin
  • MCL and AFD players have blue and green skins, respectively
  • Fixed certain keys being bound to "vote" causing the game to crash
  • Fixed games ending at seemingly random times

Check out the forums for the full release notes. Additionally, we have moved Science and Industry 2 to the Orange Box Engine, meaning you need to have the Source SDK Base - Orange Box installed to play, and you no longer need to own Half-Life 2: Deathmatch, either. We are also providing an installer version in addition to the zipped version for easy installation.

We hope this update makes the mod a little bit nicer to play.

Okay here are my $0.02.

1.) This should be labeled as an alpha build not a beta. The basic aspects are implemented but the game has nowhere near enough polish to be of beta status.

2.) Promising gameplay but as stated before nowhere near beta status. Maybe once you at least slap on some generic character animations, generic textures on crates, fix the map errors, and stuff of that sort it will start to shine.

3.) Slap on the generic character anims, gun sounds, and all that jazz. It is an unfinished product so i don't think people will mind. In fact i'd rather some generic gun sounds from HL2 rather than shoot a gun and have no sound play.

Overall it does have potential, but it does have a long way to go.

An alpha is a build only for the development team.

See as Wikipedia being the only place that actually defines the software life cycle as such, En.wikipedia.org
And also Projectconnections.com
Defines Alpha as Internal Test. Poobably why "Starsiege" was released as an alpha is because they probably did not have enough time to clean it up. Which we know S&I2 failed horribly to do. But believe what you want, I still define Alpha as a build for the development.

"Enough time"? Starsiege was released in June 1999. A full year and 4 months since alpha.

I think it is just a gameplay beta -_- The structure is there, they just need to do the rest now.

I loved S&I and I think I will love S&I2 too. Keep up the great work and don't listen to those people who are crying about this release. They just don't get it that this is a beta release :P

I'm looking forward to watch the progress on this mod :P
Just like I did with S&I 1 :D

Recommend the modders to lock the rating. Come on men, that's still in beta testing. You can bash a very classical mod, that even used to appear (if it still doesn't) in Steam's list of mods for HL1 available to play (regarding the first version), but that wouldn't be alright.
