Der Schwarze Nebel is a mod for Valve's Half-Life 2: Episode Two, that presents a mix of Cinematic Mod and beta related content of Half-Life 2.

DISCLAIMER: This mod isn't focused on recreating an entire "Beta" storyline of Half-Life 2.

Instead of recreating "that" old Half-Life 2 storyline, we focused on anthology-type compilation of maps from WC Mappack with visually updated surroundings utilizing FakeFactory's Cinematic Mod 2013 as an experiment. In other words, Der Schwarze Nebel is a mix of "Cinematic Mod" and "Half-Life 2: Beta", hopefully in the all good ways (you won't see FakeFactory characters here, at least in the future releases for the most part).

Information regarding the builds:

Der Schwarze Nebel v1.82 (1.83a) / v1.7 (released in 2016-2017): These versions are the old demos with several unfinished, but somehow playable chapters (if you can call shooting braindead enemies playable). Most of the levels are full of placeholders as you can see. There is a major lack of scripted sequences on many maps, unoptimized AI navigation which resulted in dull and boring combat, placeholders everywhere, low framerate on some of the maps, major level design issues (wrong order of the chapters/maps, weird and nonsense details), annoying teleport-transitions which are placeholders until the gameplay zones will get properly revamped and merged together in one piece.

Der Schwarze Nebel v1.9 (TBD): This is going to be a small content update that is based on 1.83a build, but with some improvements that go over it (updated models, interface tweaks, new sounds etc).

Der Schwarze Nebel v2.0 (TBD): This version will be focused on fixing and updating most of the maps and assets presented in the test builds released a few years ago (v1.0, v1.7 and v1.83a). The goal of 2.0 update is to solve most of the fundomental design flaws within the mod.

So.. Now what?

It was quite some time since I posted something here. If there is still someone left who's watching this mod, here is the situation update.

No wonder, but the things have gone even worse since the last update. Yep, 2.0 is delayed again. The reason is.. outsourcing never gives a good result in the end as far as I can tell. And the result is one person left responsible for DSN on the team with barely any spare time for it, because he's helping me by polishing some stuff for CM:A at the moment, while the rest of the mappers is gone. The other mappers were slacking and barely did anything, so it's not a big loss.

As you may have noticed I reuploaded the old demo version of the mod for those who was asking to re-upload a copy.

I hope the downloads are working correctly. Honestly, I can't get used to Moddb file manager and the layout in general. If there is anything wrong with the files, let me know in the comments. I'll try to fix them.

Hi, i figured that i needed to extract all of them at once, but i still run into an error that tells me that it cannot be opened as an archive. please help, this looks really well done and i want to play it!

Try using newer version of 7-zip. If you're using older version, then there is more chances that you may screw everything up while extracting the files.
