Certain ideals have always held more appeal than others.

In the far-flung future, this principle still unfortunately holds true. The world is on the brink of yet another deadly cataclysm, and this time the winner will decide the direction of human evolution.

The Imperium controls much of the Eurasian continent. For decades, their divine emperor has steered the fate of billions of people in a direction only he can comprehend. His rule is cruel; harsh; dissent is ruthlessly suppressed at the first sign of insurgent activity. Yet even those who detest the human rights abuses of their Emperor acknowledge that for perhaps the first time in centuries, an era of peace and stability has been brought to the regions under his rule. And with rumors of intelligent alien life on the fringes of the solar system looking to be increasingly likely, there are those who take comfort in the strength of the Imperial military.

The Republic has incorporated all of the ex-American nations within it's borders, and in fact has only slightly modified the principles upon which the United States was initially founded. Priority is placed upon freedom of the individual, upon democracy, and upon the free market. Yet, corruption is widespread, and there is little doubt that the wealthy have strong, vested interests in keeping vital reforms from going through Parliament...

The Order operates primarily from Africa and Australia, but agents of the mysterious cult can be found all across the globe. Often disenfranchised intellectuals and the lowest rungs of Imperial or Republic societies, those who have become followers of the Order have chosen to do so out of a fundamental dissatisfaction with human existence. The fundamental problem, they believe, is that humans cannot empathize with each other; cannot ever truly understand each other's emotions or rationales. The solution the Order has presented is the Will; a linked network that allows those who undergo the necessary surgery to share the thoughts and feelings of one another. The Imperium and the Republic view this network as an abomination, a hivemind that will destroy individuality and humanity.

Security, freedom, understanding; only one of these ideals can prevail. Which will you choose, Commander?

The big day is finally here! After eight months of hard work I am proud to present to you the first public release of Schism.

Version 1.0, available for download from ModDB, has the following features:
*Three completely new factions with their own distinct playstyles and arsenals
*Over forty new units
*Unique voice acting created specifically for the mod
*Overhauled sound effects, music, explosions, and other graphical effects.

You will need to download Ares 0.1 to run the mod. Install instructions are provided in the download's readme file (which comes in a high quality PDF that simulates a manual and a low quality .txt file for those on older computers).

My friends and I have had a lot of fun testing the balance of the game and I think you will find it is a polished product. I've opened the forums up for this site; I am interested to hear what your favorite side is of the three, as well as any balance concerns you may have. I'd also like to encourage anyone who wants to play multiplayer online to do so, so I set up a specifically multiplayer forum just for arranging a game or two.

Have fun with it! And keep an eye out for those secret units ;)

Is it only Republic that can capture tech buildings? Currently playing as Imperium and I'm surrounded by Oil Derricks I'd love to take advantage of :(

Republic and Order can capture tech buildings, but you're correct the Imperium cannot. The best bet as an Imperium player is to play 'scorched earth' and level all the tech structures so the other sides can't capture them and use them against you

Brief, unofficial update:

All that's left to do before a first release is to
*Add the voice acting into the game, which is all assembled now
*Overhaul the menu and loading screen graphics
*And run some playtests.

Unfortunately I am currently going through a change in computer and so these last few steps are going to take longer than I originally planned. But release is still relatively close!

Could you upload pics of the final base structures when you can? That would be cool. :)
