SC SUM is a Mod based on StarCraft Broodwar 1.16.1 that preserves the classic StarCraft gameplay with all its original units, upgrades and abilities but enhances the tech tree by three new unique super units, corresponding new research facilities and lots of new upgrades and abilities.
In detail:

  • 3 new super units
  • 1 new support unit
  • 3 new buildings
  • 14 new abilities
  • 4 new upgrades

The Terrans get the Siege Destroyer. A battleship that combines the most powerful Terran technologies. It is equipped with a devastating rapid-fire siege turret, advanced cloaking and armor upgrades, engine booster capabilities and a primary weapon system that makes the Yamato Gun look like a county fair air gun.

The Zerg get the Eradicator. The meanest creature throughout known galaxy. Besides it oustanding melee combat strength and toughness it provides a variety of insidious support and assault abilities. This beast eats whole Marine squads for breakfast.

The Protoss get the Mothership. This monolithic dreadnought is the ultimate support unit and combines oustanding energy, shielding and warping technologies. Troops in its perimeter become almost invincible. Multi-Mothership-warps can move entire armies into the enemy´s base within the blink of an eye.

I consider the current state of SC SUM as "quite final". If you have any remarks regarding balancing or ideas for updates please let me know.

ModDB user KYSXD features some pretty interesting - and professionally presented - Starcraft Mod videos on his Youtube channel. He broadcasts commented (in spanish) 1on1 matches of Burning Ground, SC Revolution Mod and - I am honored - Starcraft Super Unit Mod.

This YouTube playlist shows his SC SUM features. Have fun!
Thanks again to KYSXD. I am very grateful for this opportunity to see my mod in action.

Cool bro! How did ya manage to fix the Motherships shadow? Mine is spinning ok but the shadow repeats its process. Cool Mothership GRP! Try matching the normal view in a game mode the lighting in the middle would be better with the angle that the lighting is in the lower part of the center like normal map for example try Sand Canyon in SC2 the MS has good lighting there!:D

Hi JuggernautSC2,

the shadow image is configured a little different like regular shadows are for other units. It uses the shadow color set but not the regular shadow iscript.
The sprite setup is as follows:
- the main image is basically empty; its iscript just sets overlay and underlay
(actually it contains a big circle in the middle, hidden by the overlay, to allow proper selection behavior)
- the independent overlay shows the actual mothership graphic
(the iscript just describes an infinite iteration over all GRP images giving the impression of rotation)
- the independent underlay uses the exact same iscript as the overlay but the regular shadow color set

This approach has the big advantage that the overlay (and underlay) animation is not reset on changes in the animation state of the unit (which would result in pretty ugly flickering).

Woah thanks. Well your Motherships grp is soooo cool but I want to see it in a normal lighting condition like in Sand Canyon in SC2. In the middle of Sand Canyoin map best results. :D

Well... I hadn´t SC2 installed since the Beta. :-)
Furthermore I will not start over with this whole cumbersome make movie->extract frames->createGRP extraction.

If you need a GRP with another angle/lighting/coloring:
good luck creating one! :-)

Hi theycallmeparks,

sorry to hear about that. This problem has never been reported before. The downloadable file on the homepage is a standard zip file which hasn´t changed since March.

The only thing that might have caused this issue is an oversensitive virus scanner. Most StarCraft mods have the capability of injecting DLLs into the running StarCraft application which is a technique quite commonly used by virusses and malware as well. They might therefore be detected as potential harmful by virus scanners. Deactivating yours while downloading might help.

Nevertheless it is mysterious that you only have the one readme file in the downloaded zip. It should contain the executable, the readme and a folder containing an HTML manual. If the folder is not present either, I have no clue what is going on on your computer. I have just checked the file on server and downloaded it as a test. Everything seems to be fine.

Please let me know, how things proceed. As a last resort if nothing else work: PM me your email address so that I can send you the file that way.

Best regards,

I really want to help you. But you need to be a little more precise than "It does not work".
- Which operating system do you use? (Presumably Windows, but which one? XP? 7? 8?)
- How do you extract the files? (Build-in windows functionality? 7-Zip? A Zip-Standalone-Tool?)

I have windows 7 and I used 7zip. When I extract the file to a new folder everything but the read me file disappears. after I download the file everything is fine, but when I try to extract it that's where the problem is. I have managed to extract it successfully only for it to tell me that the file cannot be found or if I try to run it without extracting it nothing happens. I have used this mod before with my brood war and it worked fine but it got deleted somehow. It may have been an older version I'm not sure but any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the details.
Have you tried to extract the files using the default build-in windows functionality?
(It´s a standard Zip file. So there is no need to use 7zip)

theycallmeparks Oct 13 2014 replied:

Yes I have tried both ways. 7zip was a last resort. The time I managed to get the file to extract it just disappears after I click it and get the error message

So the file "SC_SUM.exe" is visible in the file browser for a short time? Or does it not appear there at all?

In case it is visible:
It disappears directly after extracting it or directly after executing it ("clicking it")?

theycallmeparks Oct 13 2014 replied:

Sometimes after I extract it it'll be there until I try to execute it and then I get an error message saying file not found. Also sometimes when I extract it it doesn't appear at all. Only the read me file remains after extraction. When I use 7zip it will usually remain in the folder I extract it to until I try to execute it. So either the extraction works and the executable file isn't there or the file is extracted successfully but will not open.

Sahasrahla Oct 13 2014 replied:

That the file is visible, but you get file-cannot-be-found-error is most likely caused by the file manager not being up to date. Updating the current folder (pressing F5) will approve this assumption.

The only plausible explanation seems to be that the extraction works fine, but "something" deletes the file afterwards.
This brings us back to my initial suspect:
an oversensitive virus scanner.
