This is an old and currently outdated version of Sanctum. Stick around for a new and highly improved version. Uploaded a new, working version of the zip...

Thanks for the answer.
Anyway, here's another question: now that the UDK has been released(i.e the Unreal Engine is practically free) will you be making this standalone?
There is a very big possibility of that, yes. :) It's all very new still and we haven't had much time to play around with the UDK yet. But there are definitely discussions about making Sanctum a stand-alone commercial game but also to try making other kinds of smaller games in the Unreal 3 engine :)
Right now we're in a crunch for the Grand Final of the Make Something Unreal Contest and won't be able to focus any of our energy on the UDK, but after that we'll investigate how much work is needed to port it over to UDK entirely and continue our work there. We'll be working 09:00 to 00:00 all week by the looks of it, so great progress will hopefully be made this week. We have several interesting new features since the last public release. So stay tuned :)
i see there is a male player model on your site. is that going to be added to the mod? the only reason i have yet to get this great looking mod is that i am not too keen on only being able to play as a female. throw that very cool looking male player model in there and i promise you will get more players.
Hello Zedrion.
The only "male player model" I can find is the General (non-playable and by now even removed character). And that is only a concept and no actual model.
Today almost 50% of players are females so why is it that almost every game has a male character as the only playable character? We simply chose that in our game, in our world and story, females fit better and therefore we chose to go with female characters only. If need be, we could argue that in Sanctum, being a city guard is something reserved for females. Or it could simply be a coincidence that it's the case here.
But to answer your statement. I've never heard from anyone else who has shared your opinion about the subject and it surprised both me and the rest of the team quite a bit. Specially as you as it is now have no way of even seeing your own player character. The only indication of gender are the very few recorded voices. So any gender on the player character is mostly in your own head. The plan is to just have two playable female character when co-op gets implemented, where you'll only be able to see the other players character which will be a female.
Both males and females don't mind playing the other sex in a game. Usually girls have a higher percent of willingness to play as a male.
I think it's a mistake when a game limits you to a male or female, at least in multi-player.
It sounds like quite some generalizations to claim that "Both males and females don't mind playing the other sex in a game". And that is directly proven wrong by Zedrion's opinion above. My guess would be that the reason for females having a "higher percent" probability of being willing to play males would be due to the fact that most games up to date have had that as the sole possibility. And if that's the case, you either have to adapt or you don't play games, simple as that.
I see your point about allowing both male and female characters to be played and maybe that will be a priority later on but it has not been one yet. It takes much time to make concepts, make the models, textures, rigging, animations, voice acting, implementing, allowing for a choice of player model and other things. And in the end that won't be worth the time invested at this point. As we're very driven by the deadlines of Make Something Unreal Contest and do not base our game on "selling", we can do whatever we find fitting and most valuable with our time.
So don't take this wrong, we value your input and feedback greatly. But as it is now, we can't be spending a massive amount of our time on something that won't be "worth" the end result.
will there be a cook of this for the ps3?
We've investigated that a little bit lately, and we'll see what we do about that. Right now we're working very hard for the Phase 4 deadline of the Make Something Unreal Contest, and the deadline for that is 13th (14th our time) of November. So Friday/Saturday next week. After that we will make sure everything is working as well as we want it to for a public release and if we manage to get it working, we'll try to make a PS3 cook out of it at that point :)
I hope that was good enough of an answer. But as of right now I can't promise anything. We'll have to test it and make sure everything works on the PS3 as well.
I see this is sort of a tower defense mod, so I'll go ahead and ask what I'm sure others must have asked before me:
Could it have multiplayer? Like, separate bridges and shared lives or something like that. It looks like it could be really awesome.
We had planned to have co-op, on the same bridge where you could help each other build and defend when the attackers try to get to the city. But sadly we bumped into trouble and won't have time to finish co-op for our mid November release. We do however have several sweet updates that will bring Sanctum up a notch.
All of this is explained on our blog for future reference :) I hope that answered your question.
