The Rise of the East is a modification for Wildfire Games' 0 A.D. that strives to bring China as a civilization into the game, meticulously researched to be as historically accurate as possible. In addition to the civilization, we plan to implement a full campaign featuring recreations of famous historical moments, new random maps and other additions to enhance the gameplay experience! As development progresses, we will periodically update the fans with the latest news, promotional media and potential community involvement as well! To commemorate our debut, we've released a small unit pack to give the fans a preview of what is to come, which can be downloaded below! It's been nearly a year since our last update, and we at Scion Development have decided to come clean. We don't have a year's worth of progress for you. Many of you may be aware that we were largely absent for about 10 of those months, so all we can do at this point is apologize. With that behind us, let us show you what we've been up to the last month!

Edge of the City Lancang River Civilization

First, we'd like to share with you our newest members of the team! We've recently welcomed two new artists to the team, both of whom have the experience to help carry our mod to great heights. Ryan (aka Lonno) is from Massachusetts and having just recently graduated having studied design and animation in school, he is now looking for a way to expand his portfolio and gain some hand-on experience as a precursor to his career in game design. He's already learned how the art pipeline works with his rice hat and is now working on new house variations for our building set.

Rastko is an avid low-poly modeler from Serbia who very quickly demonstrated his affinity for keeping things both detailed and manageable. He's already started to replace some of our inferior low poly shield meshes, and he's proven that he's capable of more detailed feats as well, such as the bridge in our newest screenshot.

Next, we thought you'd like to hear a little bit more about our process. Daniel Schubert (aka Gen.Kenobi), a member of Wildfire Games and a long-time member of the ModDB community, has agreed to help us get some things done while he's still got some spare time on his hands. We'll let the process speak for itself:

Thanks for reading guys! Subscribe to Rise of the East on ModDB or Feedburner to be the first to know of our latest additions to the project, and follow us on Twitter for an all-access feed of screenshots and progress updates from the developers themselves.

Until proper localization is implemented into 0 A.D., we will only be able to provide the mod in English. If you're interested in helping us translate unit and building names and the like, please PM me. :)

Thanks! The mod still has a ways to go before it's fully completed, but we plan to make frequent updates on our progress, there's going to be some interesting content in store for the coming months, so be sure to check back often!

Couldn't it be integrated into the final game (0 A.D.) later on? At least a polished version of the mod.

WFG-Kimball Dec 23 2010, 9:55pm replied:

Unofficially, perhaps. It's possible that the project could be featured as an "official" mod as 0 A.D, as an option for players to download. Given that this is approved by the team we could display it on the same download page, but you'll probably never find this mod in the game's official binaries. At most, this mod will serve to demonstrate the potential of 0 A.D. modding and encourage the community to develop content for the game.

Hmmm, at least one polished Eastern civilisation integrated into 0 A.D. would truly complete the main game. ;-) Still, it's your mod, so it's your decision.

Anyway, best luck with the modification!
