The present population of Italy is not the same population as inhabited it 2000 years ago. Like all populations throughout the world there has been migration, invasion and emigration happening constantly resulting in ethnic diversity. The same eastern peoples who were seen moving down from the step in the 5th century A.D settled in many parts of western Europe and make up parts of the very diverse population we have today and frankly have always had in Europe.
