it is totaly free and for such things like this it is totaly fine to do
any way if you want to do something more and have big plans you should try blender (also totaly free - but it way harder to learn and way better with a lot of tools)

Yeap, blender is muck better and complicated than wings3d.You can even make some animations in blender. :)
