Rise of the Reds – or ROTR for short – improves upon the C&C Generals formula while also adding its own distinct elements to it. Most notably, the mod adds two completely new factions, the tank-heavy Russian Federation and the defence-oriented European Continental Alliance. In addition, the three original factions China, USA and GLA have been greatly expanded and redesigned in a variety of ways, with several new units, buildings, powers and abilities to explore and combine in your in-game tactics.

With large parts of Russia's elaborate anti-air radar network crippled after years of extensive fighting, the Federation is now using smaller Radar Towers in order to maintain full coverage and protect its population from airborne attacks. The Radar Tower can operate in four different modes: The Active Radar mode is initiated by default and grants access to the radar map. The Passive Radar mode reduces signal emissions to a minimum which allows the Outpost to render itself untraceable while detecting hidden enemies in the vicinity. The Air Raid mode optimises the system for aircraft tracking and allows nearby AA to defeat airborne threats more efficiently. Finally, Russian commanders with the necessary clearance to order electronic warfare operations can activate the so-called Blackout mode to scramble enemy communications and sensor readings.

This new component is a stationary version of Russia's famous Arena hardkill system. The module consists of a sophisticated Doppler radar which detects incoming missiles and a battery of cassettes which destroy them with an accurate shrapnel-laden counter-charge before they reach their target. The system is equipped for a total of sixteen intercepts before it has to be rearmed. In addition, the module has been fitted with manually triggered smoke projectors which can create a helpful diversion in the middle of an enemy assault.

How wide is the radius of detection of the passive radar mode? Would it be effective in detecting stealth aircraft? Or would the aircraft have to more or less fly over it in order to be seen?
