Rise Of The Reds is an expansion mod for Generals: Zero Hour which adds the Russian Federation as a fully independent faction in addition to making extensive additions to the old factions USA, China and GLA. Later on, we will also include the European Continental Alliance as a second fully unique faction, as well as three special generals for each faction, an in-game general selection, faction-specific naval units and much more. Whether it's steamrolling Russians, indomitable European defenders, American high-tech, Chinese strength in numbers or the brutal cunning of the GLA - ROTR has a faction for everyone, all in one mod!
Originally conceived as a versatile medium-lift cargo helicopter for the Russian Navy in the late 2030s, the Mil Mi-40, affectionately called the "Hunchback" due to the peculiar shape of its airframe, can serve in a variety of combat roles. When the new helicopter made its first public flight during the World War II victory parade of 2042, General Orlov of the Air-Landing Forces commented that the Hunchback would have made a major difference during the disastrous African conflict in the previous year. A few days later, his Tula Division was the first unit to issue an order for a full squadron of Mi-40s to complement their Hind and Hokum gunships. The VDV's version of the Hunchback is equipped with an armoured cargo container that has enough internal space for up to eight fully equipped infantrymen. In order to provide immediate and decisive fire support to the ground troops after their deployment, this "assault transport" version is also armed with a powerful twin-barrel 23mm auto-cannon and has two weapon-hardpoints that can be loaded with free-falling thermobaric bombs.
It certainly looks awesome.
err... looks like a mutant chinook if you ask me.. which makes it unique!
agree with mutant chinook
pfft, not mutant...
its been russianafied
Chinook in a bag...JUST ADD STEROIDS!
that "chinook-looks" it have only because it carries trooptransport container
without it, it may look similar like this: Minihelicopter.net
No its what happens when a Chinook makes out with a Hind. :3
nah, its more like a Chinook on steroids
That's what I said...
loved it!
Disgusting! I love it! :D
OMG
ugly and durable
Chinook crossbreed with a Hind?
awesome
This is will be added in 1.71?
1.72...
What're those giant red buttons for?
Air intake hoods, they're used to block rocks and stuff kicked up from the downdraft being sucked into the engine.
Here's a good pic of the Mi-26 Halo's intake hoods:

I see. Thx for explaining.
Will the Halo be in ROTR as a heavy transport for transporting tanks?
See this for Real Mi-40:

Didn't know the designation was already taken. Oh well.
Hmm... So... What's the use for this exactly? Hind replacement or brand new helicopter?
Looks like a transport helicopter to me, like the US's Osprey/Chinook
Replaces nothing. It's added just so you can try it out before we split the factions to their respective generals.
The Hunchback is lower tier than the hind, so you'll see it early game as opposed to the Hind which is solidly late-game. It's also cheaper and holds more troops than the Hind.
Will Vanilla generals still be playable in 2.0 or will you have to pick a general?
Holy dogshit! Neat!
So Orlov will have this as replacement for the Hind?
no, the description said it will be a complementary unit.
this helicopter's parents are chinook and Mi 24. I wonder how they made love :))))))
Hind has a long head and Chinook can fit a Humvee in its back.
If you know what i mean...
nice design! but I think it will look better without the eye drawing near the cockpit.
That's probably a handle, the textures a little stretched due to the complexity of the model.
It's actually supposed to be a painted-on eye. This may not come across very well in the render, but the chopper actually has grinning shark teeth painted on its 'chin', as seen on many warplanes. It looks quite cool in-game.
A face only a (blind) Pilot could love. Keep the enemy terrified, good.
Me thinks the Russians know their shnitzle
Chinook on Russian steroids? Is it meant to be WW3 or 2 in the description?
It -is- actually supposed to be WW2. Ever since 1945, the Russians throw a massive victory parade in Red Square on May 9, and in-universe, the Hunchback was first shown to the public during the parade of 2042. At that point, the actual Third World War is still three years away.
Thanks for the clarification
******* awesome ALL HALL RUSSIA
this upcomming patch is great, it's like a dlc, but a good one that's also for free.
The description says it's a heavy lift heli - can this transport vehicles? I know it's complimentary to the Hind but unless it can lift vehicles it's use is sorta limited. Once the Hind becomes available I don't see much motivation to use this for infantry transport.
I agree, i don't see much use for it if it can't transport vehicles
It's actually an infantry-only transport (hence why the description says 'medium-lift' in the very first sentence). Think of it not as a Russkie Chinook but rather a 'mirror version' of the Sea Knight helicopters that the USMC uses.
What makes it useful? It's available earlier than the Hind, cheaper, carries 8 rather than 6 infantry units and let's be real: Hinds are expensive and most people would rather use them for their epic firepower rather than transport.
As for vehicles, this is actually intended by design. ROTR Russia is a steamroller faction: Unstoppable in the late game with great firepower and armour, but lacking in vehicular mobility. If Russia could somehow air-lift tanks - up to and including Golems and Sentinels no less - you'd be taking away one of the very things that make them somewhat vulnerable.
true, but orlov should break this rule a litle bit.
(not that he should lift sentinells)
You should make the helo lift up to Tunguska
Maybe this is one of those Super secret stuff what was announced earlier?
nice model
mi-24 hind + ch-47 chinook = this
Strange model. But excellent use, i hope it can carry vehicles too.
The chinese need a transport chopper too, will you brig back the Helix or you will make a new model? Also, could you add a gun on the nose of the Han?It looks pretty empty without it
