Rise of the Reds – or ROTR for short – improves upon the C&C Generals formula while also adding its own distinct elements to it. Most notably, the mod adds two completely new factions, the tank-heavy Russian Federation and the defence-oriented European Continental Alliance. In addition, the three original factions China, USA and GLA have been greatly expanded and redesigned in a variety of ways, with several new units, buildings, powers and abilities to explore and combine in your in-game tactics.
Armed with a fully automatic AA12 assault shotgun, these rugged Marine CQB specialists form the spearhead of any American infantry operation, making short work of enemy foot soldiers at close range. The military role of the Vanguards is brutal, up-close and archaic, but at the same time surprisingly intricate due to the contents of their large backpacks: These contain a number of autonomous weapon systems that can be deployed by the Vanguard and perform a variety of combat tasks without any additional human input: A stationary minigun turret, a Roach UCAV that follows its human master to provide additional fire support with its rocket launchers and a lightweight aircraft that is propelled into the air by a simple throw in order to launch itself into garrisoned structures with a powerful explosive payload.
Holy...wow... O.O Good ol' unmanned firepower...hurrah for the U.S. of A.!
Puts a whole new spin on "an army of one"...

"lightweight aircraft that is propelled into the air by a simple throw in order to launch itself into garrisoned structures with a powerful explosive payload." Taking inspiration from Call of Duty: Black Ops 2?
this idea was already in fuel of war before BO2
Exactly where my inspiration was from not your Generic mcdonalds shooter :P

I've concluded that if you mention Call of Duty on ROTR you'll get downvoted to hell.
If people don't like your comment, you shouldn't post more!
(buried)
That I did not know.
Yeah you say you know they planned everything though you do not :P
You pretty much get downvoted to hell if you say that a dev took inspiration from CoD anywhere
I'm pretty sure will get downvoted to hell or verbally flamed to **** for even mentioning Call of Duty, cuz hating on Call of Duty is a trend.
*I'm not a fanboy nor do I ever got around playing any of the games. Eat a sentry, dummy*
If hating CoD is a trend, I'm a ******* hipster.
...anyone got a Walther PPK? 7.65, preferably? Or at least some cyanide? I gotta do something.
Negative 50 karma? I have never seen such a sight!
The Hunter-Killer is the Noob's dream in Call of Duty. It is not even worth talking about!
the sentry brings memories of Half life :D
I thought the same thing;but instead of Half-life it reminds me of Black mesa
the machine...(s)
The minigun turret reminds of of Half Life.
Will they tip over and deactivate when they're destroyed or will they just explode? :p
I was about to say that that looks just like the HECU turret.
Don't you mean tip over, go full retard, and then deactivate?
Well, if you aren't careful, the last bit of full auto before it shuts down can be rather unpleasant and there's little point in keeping the thing running when it can barely spot anything and only risks damaging itself.
Is this going to be an exclusive for a USA general or is this for all?
The Vanguard, along with all of his drones, is planned to be available to all US Generals.
Okay, thanks MARS.
reminds me of TAU from Dawn of War....which makes it much more exciting ^-^...
HOLY CRAP THIS LOOKS NICE!!!
Now....will China's black lotus be able to hack the sentry guns? ....i'm just looking for a chance to say "A spy's sapping ma sentry!" xD
How about reprogramming them?
But anyway that seem to be gosh darn OP
Another question, What role will this unit preform or is it just specialized infantry?
anti garrison and support
The most awesome thing I've seen all day.
The Vanguard looks like it'll do better in urban maps. If it has uses in open maps please, enlighten me.
It's useful on all kinds of maps. By itself, it makes for an effective anti-infantry unit, the bomb drones can clear garrisons, the sentries add defensive firepower and the Roach UCAVs can take out tanks when used by a group of Vanguards.
The Roach UCAV looks a lot like a Tau drone. :) On the other hand...
"SENTRY GO GO DOWN AND UP DAMMIT! GOTTA MOVE THAT GEAR!"
oh my, 2.0 will be a heavy update :D keep up the good works lads! :D
Actually this is for 1.82 content (not to be confused with the recent release of 1.802) that will be the equivalent of our previous 1.72 in that we added a lot to the other factions after releasing the GLA =)
After this it's off to 2.0.
So... I'm guessing this is the Marine you were telling me. Looks nice. Love it. Keep it up. :D
*sniff* beautiful
Imminent TF2 Comment...
"BUILDING A SENTRY!"
Otherwise reminds me alot of the Engineer Class in Hellgate London which had a Pet Drone (which you can customize with Ranged Weapons/Body Armor) that supported the Player. And also had the ability to build smaller special-roled Drones (Rocket & Phase Bots that can be ordered to suicide bomb like a AoE Bomb)
Looks great, How many sentries can you build per operator?
probably infinite...
coz the lore says that it doen't need additional human inputs...
which logically means that the sentries are just "drop 'em and let them tear holes through those bastards"...
But in that case, he would need a much bigger bag to fit all those sentries.
Obviously though they are not going to force you to keep coming back to the barracks to resupply, so yea. Its probably with a cooldown timer per sentry drop.
This is amazing.
If this were an FPS class all of the n00bs would get one and camp for the entire game, surrounded by sentries and sniping with their little suicide gliders.
But this is an RTS. The diabolical and strategic implications are buzzing around my head like a hive of angry hornets. The limitless possibilities that the Vanguard represents... I'm as stoked as the next person.
I wouldn't say limitless. The suicide UAV will probably only be target garrisons and the Roach just adds a bit of anti-tank firepower, by the sound of it. Deployable sentries excite me of course but it remains to be seen whether using the ability will have a cash cost or a long cooldown.
Funny that you mention this. The Vanguard is basically every cliché about modern multiplayer shooters wrapped into an RTS unit: A gun that was widely considered OP in MW2, a vitriolic attitude and three special weapons that are available as killstreak rewards in CoD games. The best part: This combination may be annoying and cheap as hell in an FPS, but it makes for a very clever, micro-tactical unit in an RTS. I'm sure you're all going to like 'em.
"vitriolic attitude"
Oh my. Did you dig up an awesome voice actor for this guy?
This game is awesome. I'm holding off on downloading newer patches until another full release comes out. My PC is picky and I've ruined my CnC files quite a few times trying to patch ROTR lol.
GO RECON!
So I assume these will be frontline units, yet capable of using their multitudes of drones in order to support other troops? A question; will they be able to build or use more than one drone at a time? Will we see walls of sentries left behind by a single trooper?
