Rise of the Reds – or ROTR for short – improves upon the C&C Generals formula while also adding its own distinct elements to it. Most notably, the mod adds two completely new factions, the tank-heavy Russian Federation and the defence-oriented European Continental Alliance. In addition, the three original factions China, USA and GLA have been greatly expanded and redesigned in a variety of ways, with several new units, buildings, powers and abilities to explore and combine in your in-game tactics.
Originally designed to survive on a nuclear battlefield but scrapped upon orders of Chairman Khrushchev in 1960, the experimental heavy tank 'Obyekt 279' was given a new life as the T-279 'Golem' by General Aleksandr. During the Russo-European War, the Golem tanks of the Shock Divisions attained a reputation that even rivalled the mighty Sentinel tanks of the Russian Army. Some of the war's most notorious Russian tank aces such as Anatoliy Kovalenko, who was the first to force a Manticore tank to retreat with severe turret damage, or Polina Novikova, who stalled the advance of ECA Battlegroup Boudica for an entire day outside Amsterdam, commanded a Golem tank and as the front shifted back to Russian-held Germany in early 2049, many of these elite veterans were granted access to the new T-279M variant as a last ditch effort to turn the tide of war in Aleksandr's favour once again. The already massive 130mm cannon of the original tank was replaced by an excessive 152mm gun and the turret was equipped with two heavy 14.5mm KPV machine guns for anti-aircraft duty. In addition to its updated weaponry, the new model was also outfitted with the Shtora-2 active protection system, which consisted of two components: An array of powerful electro-optical jammers that prevent any missile or rangefinder from getting a clear lock on the tank and a battery of extremely powerful flash grenades which blind infantry. This combined effect of jamming, confusion and sheer terror makes it momentarily impossible to attack the Golem. However, even the new Golem only managed to delay what many already regarded as inevitable - including President Nikolai Suvorov himself.
These new units look absolutely beautiful in every sense! And you guys also managed to make them look more practical and realistic! Good Job!
can this be manned with infantry?
It can't because it doesn't have to be manned. The guns are controlled from the inside.
I have a question about the golem...I was playing a Map with water in it against AIs, And the golem tanks could go underwater. Was this intentional or a glitch?
yes
I believe it was intentional as it originally was actually designed as a top secret experimental amphibious main battle tank for my Russian country in the real world but they scrapped the idea because it had to many mechanical problems like the engine wasn't powerful enough and the the other more powerful engines were just to big and that in turn caused more problems
The golem looked insane before but now it's truly a beauty. Are those machine guns purely aesthetic or will they be able to fire? Also will they fire separately or will the entire turret have to turn to fire?
The guns are more than aesthetical. While they aren't comparable to proper anti-air, they do decent damage to helicopters and infantry which should help the Golem against groups of them. They do rotate with the turret though.
I only wish they could rotate without the turet that would make the tank very over powered
can you make the wheels on the threads spin too :D
That would be a waste of system resources for something that you wouldn't even notice at the regular camera height during gameplay.
It has an anti-air battery too it this is too cool to be true
A 152mm cannon?
So will the rate of fire decrease and the damage per shot increase?
Also, this will be my new second favorite tank in the game. Great work!
Ow and no the rate of fire shouldn't decrease its slow as hell already but the damage will probably increase quite a bit hopefully
wait...if the machine guns are fixed...then its only air or ground target one at a time?...
yes which is a shame
If I recall correctly, the original Golem was supposed to be immune to EMP, neutron weapons, pilot sniping, etc. Is that still the case, or has the active protection system supplanted that advantage.
it has all the old stuff...the new stuff is that it has anti air weapon and more effective against infantries aaaandd...it seems to be like the Emperor to Overload...
Dont miss with me
Real Beast!!!
Dear Mr. Suvorov.
If you would more invest in the development of Golem Tank, applying the upgrades from Sentinel to it, you would have a cheaper tank that can far exceed Sentinel's overall performance.
...
:D:D Golem just became a bigger beast than ever :)
This, somewhat reminds me of the T-100 from EndWar.
It's clearly an object 279.
He refers to the machine guns. The T-100 had two... I think 20mm autocannons on the sides of back section of turret, that could be used for AA fire.
Since the endwar concepts are a great source of inspiration to us you are not entierly wrong with that feeling ;)
Monster
Out of question, why did you named it "T-279"? Russians pretty much NEVER named their tanks by their factory designation "Object" number.
It would have been unintuitive to read that it was based on Object 279 but somehow ended up with a T-designation with a different number. Besides, one could argue that a.) none of the stuff that Aleksandr puts out is factory standard to begin with and b.) he's eccentric and he designates his vehicles in whichever way he likes. It is reasonable to assume that he would call it the T-279 simply because he personally wanted to emphasise its original roots, as if to show people that he finally made that tank a reality.
damn you're good.
Ow about that I'm actually Russian so I could tell you this in Russia we say Type what ever like the T-90 tank is actually Type-90 so instead of object we say T for Type hope this helped
man the golem looks much better and it looks more powerful but can it be upgraded with ERA ?
of course not...it just like the emperor was to overload...
can it still withstand blasts? and is it still amphibious
We going to get to see America field their counterpart to this? Cause the US developed their own counterpart during the Cold War, the T-28 Super Heavy Tank.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T28_Super_Heavy_Tank
We don't design the factions to have symmetrical counterparts to everything. Russia is a tank-heavy faction, but the US are about high-tech and mobility, so giving them a giant, sluggish-as-hell tank from the last century wouldn't fit their themes. The US are supposed to destroy heavy tanks with aircraft, choppers and AT Drones, not a heavy tank of their own. Not to mention that the Obj.279 was only 'brought back' thanks to Aleksandr's personal preference because the President gave him a blank cheque to cook up whatever goofy weapons he likes; there would be no reason for the tacticool, cutting edge US military to revive an outdated concept from the 1940s.
Wasn't that in Shockwave for Deathstrike?
It was Deathstrike's super tank, designated the Basilisk.
kind of BUT the design was salvaged and kind of scrappy "look" so to speak because it was used by the GLA which was a nice touch plus the "basilisk" couldn't rotate its turret where as the golem can
With all respect it looks almost like the T-100 Ogre from Endwar

Is this game still alive?
Wait a sec, it now also has anti-missile abilities?
Oh, snap.
Kinda of basically now it has a ability that makes it untagetable for a short time when activated(you can still hit it with force fire though)
Anti Missile Abilities /
Can the 2 MGs be able to also act like anti-infantry?
Swap monster? More like DERP monster (reference to that memetic 152mm).
Will this eventually be an exclusive? Cuz it looks like its just as capable as the vanilla Sentinel while being cheaper, risking the latter to be redundant.
From what I've heard, it will be Alexandr's replacement for the Sentinel.
I just realized how much more better this version is than the old one. Compare: Media.moddb.com
I smell some serious Tom Clancy's Endwar influence on that tank.

Can you make the endings like the red alert 2 ones, with comepletely uncanonical campaign endings?
