I am not sure what ability to give Taris when controlled. If there are suggestions, I am open to them.

Maybe an increase in speed for repulsor lift vehicles? This planet was known for its swoop bike racing, which use repulsor lifts.

Building take less damage from orbital bombardments/bombing runs.

Wouldn't they take more damage?

Actually, that's a pretty good idea. The undercity might be relatively protected, aside from a few holes. Either orbital bombardment, bombing runs, or both should be ineffective or unusable.

Due to the damage, overgrowth, and general chaos of the rubble, having undetectable ground bases would be good.

I like the repulsor idea. After all, if the city was razed and the quality of life reduced...Well the lower and undercity levels would have risen to power, honestly...And that's where the swoop racing was at its most popular.

the crime syndicate ability with variable income (cant remember what planet was that in the vanilla game) because of crime syndicates and organized swoop races

"The Promised Land" was not really all that great, if I remember correctly... Besides, after the bombardment it would likely have been destroyed anyway.

However, Taris was run in two ways: The upper city was run by the wealthy and social elite. The lower city was run by the crime lords and swoop gangs. When the bombardment happened, it's likely that any of the social elite that survived had enough money to flee off world. This inevitably would lead to the leadership of the lower city (those too poor to leave) taking complete control. Over the generations, we are led to assume that things evened out a bit but I suspect that by the GCW era, Taris still had a passion for swoop racing and may still be governed in a clan or tribal fashion, as gangs essentially are.

I think a combinaton: of increase in speed for repulsor lift vehicles/new repulsor vehicles to build and immunity for planetary bombardment.

The planetary bombardment idea doesn't make a lot of sense though. Taris never took any steps to ensure that they couldn't be bombarded again and they never invented any grand defense technology. Their planet is just as vulnerable now as it was then...but this is why Taris chose to remain neutral for so long also, to avoid the very real threat of bombardment or invasion when the Empire was in control.

what ever happened to the ragul's? would be an interesting unit to add as a native (as long as they don't use your troop to multiply. that would be horrifying.)

There were barely any rakghouls left at the time of GCW, especially on Taris.

There were other grotesque undercity...things on Coruscant and other places but the Rakghouls specifically were old news by this time.

According to the Vector comic series the Rakghoul plague was originally caused by Sith alchemy, specifically the amulet of an old Sith lord called Karness Muur, which was recovered from Taris by a mad mandalorian scientist (an apprentice of Demagol if you will), but then was lost on a remote ice planet for the next few thousand years after causing an entire Neo-Crusader staging base to succumb to the Rakhgoul plague, which resulted in Cassus Fett nuking it from orbit.

I suppose there were still enough Rakhgouls left on Taris to infect new victims and maintain their population considering this happened during the Mandalorian Great Crusade and thus before KOTOR, but I would assume after the removal of the primary source of the infestation, it would have slowly declined and eventually died off over the centuries.

That was basically my though. Especially if you follow the light-side (and therefore canon) progression, then the Rakghoul plague really seems like it would have been decimated and long past by GCW era and beyond.

Description

Taris was once considered a gem in the galaxy, rivaled only by Coruscant in its splendor. However, the planet-spanning city was laid waste by Sith bombardment in the days of the Old Republic. After the massacre and resulting destruction, Taris' once opulent and wealthy mega-city was reduced to wreckage and was slowly reclaimed, at least in part, by nature. The devastation would leave Taris in this broken state for many generations and indeed, it would never fully recover. Even today, though many parts of the city are rebuilt, it is still considered a "faded" city world and a majority of it's citizens still live only moderate lives. Additionally, a great portion of the planet is still reclaimed by nature, the tall decaying skyscrapers still covered in mossy growth or even totally bent to the will of trees that have taken root in the buildings themselves.
