The Empire has fallen and a New Republic is born out of the conflict. But in the ashes of civil war, yet another life stirs...
Turr Phennir is a decorated Imperial ace pilot who commands the famous 181st Imperial Fighter Squadron. Originally, Phennir served under the legendary Soontir Fel but aspired to leadership after Fel retired and settled in parts unknown. However, while only Wedge Antillies may claim to be as skilled behind the yoke as Soontir, Turr Phennir is well respected for his abilities and is feared among Republic pilots. Even the Mandalorians hold him in some regard for his sheer skill.
Currently, the 181st pilots the venerable TIE Defender starfighter.
You would almost think that man's chin would cause a hull breach.
Actually Lol'd. Perhaps we will call him Turr Leno...or The Crimson Chin, since red is the 181st color anyway.
Make this the sound effect for whenever you select his unit: Youtube.com
It's too bad you can't make sound effects that have like...a 1 in 100 chance of playing, just so that this can be included as a rare easter egg.
When selecting a squad of units, can you make the selection sound different depending on which unit you click on? For instance, adding that sound to the selection of only the fighter that dude is in.
Not sure how it loops anymore but I think if you reference the main audio files multiple times a.mp3, b.mp3, a.mp3, it'll skew the ratio its played at for A's favor. So if you copy it a few dozen times you might be able to slip it in.
Omega, yes you can do that. However, the Power to Shields ability that's there is actually a scripted ability that activates when Power to Weapons is activated. Power to Shields, by default, doesn't work with fighter squads. That said, the script won't work unless all units in the fighter squad are the same...and I'd rather have the ability than unique dialogue :)
Legion, yeah, that's the long way around. I could do it but to make it really rare, I'd need to have a pretty long string of dialogue entries just to decrease the chance of playing the one.
don't you mean "Power to Chin?"
Above^ Is hilarious, I am however curious. Do you actually have the fear ability implemented? As far as I can remember there wasn't anything like it in vanilla
It's basically the Force Confuse ability that Obi Wan uses, modified for use in space and given a unique icon/description. :)
Strike Fear seems /very/ useful, I'm excited to use it!
I hope so. It's useful on ground but nothing like it was ever implemented in space. I'm still working out the balance on it (how long it lasts, cooldown, and AOE) but I'm finding it to be quite a nice ability. Combined with the power to shields, it makes the 181st very tanky. :)
Secret 3rd ability:
Calling this squadron starts this
I really like that linked videos and pictures are embedded now :) So much better...kinda like video games from this era...before DLC, multplayer/online only, all the freaking security **** just to install, etc.
Yes, before the dark times, and before Disney :P
I'm replaying this game now. Been on a bit of a Star Wars binge lately.
It's also amazing how little hand holding and how brutal Tie Fighter is. You also won't find so many bonus and extra mission objectives tucked away in every single mission or training simulation in any other game.
These days you get an ''achievement'' for completing a tutorial.
In some games you get an achievement just for starting a new game... Literally requires only turning the power on. Lol. See, that's part of the charm of old games that just doesn't exist anymore. I mean, think about Jedi Knigt, for example. So many secret areas, easter eggs, etc. The last real game to have that was Halo 3...but as soon as Microsoft took over, the "skulls" and stuff were just pre-game options, not hidden or hard to get to bonus things. There was no mystery and no sense of accomplishment, just turn them on or off. Bland :( Even then though, Halo 3 was the last in an already long dying breed.
The last game i remember that had a heavy dose of those elements was Axiom Verge, a Metroid style sidescroller with a lot of extra collectables/weapons/upgrades that are completely optional. I do enjoy that kind of stuff a lot.
I think in a way you add stuff like this to Empire at War aswell. Like the Noghri Death Commandos on Honoghr, optional units that can only be built on a certain planet or with a certain combination of structures. You could just use regular infantry, but with multiple options the game stays interesting. And acquiring new options gives you a sense of advancement.
Yeah, there will be easter eggs of all types. Some will simply be props on the map that make you go, "oh yeah, I remember that from X book/movie". Others will be special units that are only on specific planets or some only buildable in skirmish, etc. I got plans ;)
Only commenting to point out two typos I saw in the description. "paralized" should be "paralyzed", "Effected" should be "Affected", and "uncontrolable" should be "uncontrollable". Only trying to help; you're welcome. Can't wait for the mod update!
That's what happens when photoshop has no spell check. Haha. The thing is, I know that's the proper spelling for each, I just type faster than I can proof read. Lol Thanks!
So, have you notice how out of all famous imperial squadrons, 181st members were the luckiest ones ? I mean, Fel survived, with his son eventually reviving the Empire, Phennir lived till the Second Galactic Civil war and became the leader of the Confederacy. Stele also survived all wars, and even helped Land stop the destruction of Kessel.Like seriously, most other wings and squadrons were pretty much destroyed well before the Pellaeon–Gavrisom treaty.
That's my one complaint about the EU to be honest...everyone's pet character survives... I mean, freakin' Palpatine came back how many times? After a while it's like, "ok...you're an author and writing is your profession. You're telling me you can't come up with a new set of characters? Or you don't have the guts to kill a few off in meaningful ways?"
