Back when I first played this game I used to think the game looked so much like the movie, I am regaining the feeling again with these redesigned props. Great work.

Same. I remember thinking that this game was incredible. Now I look back at the graphics and gameplay and to be honest, I can't even play it without serious modding because it's....bad.

It's amazing how powerful the game engine is considering the games age.

Oh, and one other thing I'd like to point out is that for the astute observer, you will see a change to the Shadow Mesh shader. Notice on the "before" picture up top how shadows for the towers and taller items will cut off after a certain distance? That distance has been edited in the shader so that flying units, tall props, etc will cast their full shadows and not cut off after such a short distance.

Originally, this draw distance limit was set to preserve memory...but computers have come a long way since this game's release so extending that draw limit really causes no noticeable performance issues.

Holy ****, yes! Some props really needed some love.

This really makes me want to load up the old map editor again.

Definitly the skyscrapers. Very thorough overhaul, even doing the props. Definitly deserves all the praise you're getting, I don't recall anyone ever redoing the props.

That was my thought as well. The urban props, more than anything, really need some love.

Hey did you hear that apparently the graphical "max" For EaW has been being far understated? I think it was the YVaW team that figured this out if you want verification.

Yes, I've actually known about this for quite some time (as have they) but nobody has ever come out and just said it plainly like they have...so there has been a lot of misconception.

That said, even if there is no apparent polygon cap, it's still prudent to set your own limits so that one's mod can run on a variety of platforms. A lot can be achieved through texturing too...polygons are only half the battle.

Farseer, just wondering if these were also the final textures on the models. The model adjustments look great, far superior to the originals, but in some places it seems as though the older textures (not even the whole of the older texture, as it is clearly shoddy work in places, but even just parts of it) are more detailed. The new ones seem a little clean/cartoony. I am assuming this is because these shots are from the editor, right? If that isn't why, I might suggest a bit more detail, or maybe a couple variations of each, from "squeaky-clean new" to "rustbucket ruin". It would be a bit difference between let's say Galactic core worlds and planets on the outer rim.

[edit: And honestly, double checking my assertion, this is only noticeable on zoom in, while zoomed out, the opposite seems to be the case. The more detailed sections of the older textures are seen to repeat and blur and stretch and look nasty, while yours remain clear and SOLID.]

Then again, I have every respect for your work, and know that all these things take time and effort. I don't want it to seem like a put down, and I am certainly not the most qualified person to pass judgement on this. Thank you so much for all the time you have put into this mod! And the reflection of the skybox will be amazing!

ALO viewer and Map Editor always do look just a little different than actual game footage. However, that said, it's partly just a difference in artistic style but also partly a difference in the method used to create the assets.

My normal maps are much more prominent, which does cause things like panel lines to appear darker from certain angles. When seen in-game though, with varying light conditions and so forth, it looks much better.

I'm not 100% sure what else to say in regards to this other than I do like my own style here. It's definitely different than the game's original but all of my art tends to be precise and clean (FYI, there are dirt marks and scratches if you look close enough). I do appreciate your feedback!

I figured it had something to do with the ALO viewer. And yeah as I said in my edit, I think yours look better zoomed out for sure. I look forward to how the props will enhance the mod. ;) Thanks for the fast reply.

Yes and that as well, is partly my goal. I mean after all, in RTS games you mostly view your models zoomed out so you want them to look good from that distance.

I love it, the graphics looks so juicy! MMM!!!! It looks like as if LucasArts(now converged into LucasFilm, thanks disney... ._.) had cared about us and decied "Hey let's remake this and make it look better and have better scripting!" Except this is Farseer's work! ... as Mand'alor, 10/10!!!!

Thanks! And the saddest part is that we will never see sequels to the games we grew up on and loved... No more Jedi Knight, Rogue Squadron, Rebel Assault...none of it. This work and these stories can only live on through modders now.

Good to know that the forces of the three faction won't be fighting in front of stuff that looked good...good lord. A decade ago. Over a decade ago.

...Welp, I can't believe this game is that old. And how much you're improving it with your standard Farseer Body and Skin Treatmentâ„¢. Strange how your treatment can also apply to inorganic objects as well as units and heroes!

As far as next prop...I agree with Jeroenimo about the skyscrapers. Although...have you redone the ground turrets yet?

That said, what about wildlife? Are they props or technically units?

Reply Good karma Bad karma+1 vote

Technically units. They will be one of the last things I make changes too though. And a lot of them are so small, it's actually not worth changing. I might make NEW wildlife for certain planets...but that remains to be seen. That s one of those "if there is time" things.

If you didn't already know, even the props will be getting a makeover in RotM, version 5. Here is a taste of what to expect, particularly with urban props. Updates for natural props (trees, rocks, etc) will come at a later date.
