The Empire has fallen and a New Republic is born out of the conflict. But in the ashes of civil war, yet another life stirs...
No animations yet but the texture is final. A few of the UVs need to be fixed still (the astute modeler will see them here...) but I'd say it's 98.34261% done.
It was asked previously if "MAW" was the final name or just a placeholder. The answer is...placeholder. Originally I called it MAW because it kept in line with other Mando naming conventions like the MAL (missile unit) but I've come to the conclusion that I don't want any holdover names from the Consortium. I'm going to rename Consortium units that are also used into something more Mandalorian. That said, if you have suggestions for the name of this walker, offer them up! It doesn't HAVE to be in Mando'a...just something that makes you think "Mandalorian."
Last note for those that are wondering... The images were rendered using the 3D engine that's built into photoshop. This does not represent (in complete accuracy) what it will look like when ported to the game engine.
I think im in love....
MAW does not love. MAW only shoots and stomps.
MAW SMASH YOU
DAKA DAKA DAKA!!
"Ripper" class tank/walker maybe?
Or:
"Butcher"
Something less knife-ey and more...stomping, punching, brutish. :)
I say keep it as MAW then. As in the gaping MAW that will devour you. Smashing, crunching, breaking, etc.
then maybe:
"Rammer" type heavy walker...
Mammoth Walker perhaps?
Kind of a rip-off from the C&C Tiberium series, but still.
Mammoth, Titan, Helleria Devastator, Korstul Walker, Kri'et heavy walker, shall I go on?
Titan and Mammoth are more ship names than land forces, because it says something is big (like a star destroyer for example)
It has to be something that indicates power and strength, not great size. Devastator on the other hand is more "Imperial" (because they had the names like "Eclipse" etc.)
"Rammer" on the other hand would be good, because it indicates that it can smash through enemy lines and do what it does best... ram it's targets.
"Havoc" heavy walker, would be nice too.
Titan and Mammoth:
Static3.wikia.nocookie.net
Static4.wikia.nocookie.net
And they are two of the coolest/most iconic walkers in all of video games. ;)
Called "Titan" and "Mammoth" respectively.
Brawler-Type Heavy Assault Walker.
well yes, but in those games there were no super-big ships like in star wars, when you compare this walker, to a Imperial Star Destroyer, it's no bigger than an ant... so the name "Titan" and "Mammoth" doesn't fit in this universe. For a big starship, yes, but not for any ground unit...
So what then, do you say about actual Star Wars units like the Juggernaut, Gargantuan, etc?
Point taken...
You can do what they did for the tank and name it after a previous leader.
So like Spar or Jango.
You can also translate cool English words to Mandalorian: Mandoa.org
Thanks for the link! Very useful.
MAW: Mando Assault Walker
That was the original name and the reason I chose MAW as the abbreviation ;)
I'd suggest Tarantula-class Mobile Ordnance Platform, nicknamed "Gunhopper", because imo it looks like a grasshopper with guns on it.
I guess it's the combination of the legs with this color, especially in the top left picture. (Btw that is not a bad thing, I think it looks really cool and I like the color a lot.)
Locust would work too, but that is maybe too reminiscent of Halo and sounds not very mandalorian to me.
Locust just makes me think Gears... I kinda like Gunhopper though, to be honest. Lol.
Catchy, isn't it? ;)
Should name it after a creature from the Star Wars universe. Or after the race the Mando's took it from like the how they named the Basilisk. Maybe something Verpine. Like a Roche walker. Or Mando'a. "Aranar" - defend or the "Tal'galar" - to spill blood, to bleed. Both of these are Mando'a verbs.
I like Tal'galar a lot.
I think Aranar sounds very very good but it would make an oxymoron considering names like Aranar Assault Walker, it would mean something like "defending assault walker-type". On the other side Mandalorian vehicles like THIS behemoth are able for assault and defending major locations. Hm, maybe choosing two ability options and it would fit. Very interesting suggestions in here.
Sticking to the animal theme, what about Ronto? Or Dewback?
Dewback would be better if it was a transport, I think. They don't seem too aggressive either, for that matter.
Yeah I was leaning more towards Ronto anyway. I know Rontos are generally considered useless except by Jawas but... the WORD Ronto in Star Wars just means "big" or something like that. That's why in RotJ, when C-3P0 is talking to the Ewoks and telling the story of Hoth, he refers to the AT-ATs as "el ronto gosh."
Yeah, but I think not many Mandalorians would come to the idea to name one of their military units as Ronto or Dewback. I think, just as we humans would refer to known animals of our earth, they would refer to animals they know from their home planet or animals which are so dangerous or some kind of important in their space faring history that those animals become part of their collective cultural knowledge. However, Dewback or Ronto would fit greatly for some criminal transports.
Well, then Mythosaur would propably fit best. They are said to have been huge and it's the most mandalorian animal ever, even though they are extinct.
Yeah, I thought about that, too. But I think the name doesn't really fit to the design of this masterpiece. I mean, it's big, epic and awesome but at the same time there doesn't seem to be a mental link to the original city-sized Mythosaur, at least for me. I think there are good suggestions in here, I think Tal'galar sounds promising.
True, Mythosaur should propably be something really huge, like a capital ship or something at least AT-AT-sized.
Hm, I think the minimum size for such an important and symbolic animal as the Mythosaur should be like this: Radojavor.deviantart.com
Man, I love this design. In my opinion it should be in Episode VII.

Translation please.

No I didn't use the translator I am actually learning the language.
Thanks!
Makes me chuckle with gleefully evil thoughts of my broken enemies ^_^
I like ^_^
I can give it a destructive frolicking animation, just for you!
"The hill are alive with the sound of *Pew Pew Pew*" ^_^
Glamdring the foe-hammer lol honestly i got nothing
Orcrist the Goblin Cleaver?
Yep from the hobbit lol
Silmarillion did it first! Lol.
Crap you're right lol
Stupid movies, scrambling my brain
Lol...yeah they depart from the books quite a bit.
I blame movie pacing lol
I blame Peter Jackson...and the production studio that thought it was a good idea to split one, SHORT book into three films... Moneygrubbers...
Worth nothing that said short book was also written for children.
I imagine if Tolkien did the more adult-oriented version he planned, then the movies might be a tad closer.
Probably not... The movies had other issues than simple departure from the books. I mean... c'mon, floating down a river of molten gold on a steel plate that somehow conducts NO heat...at all? Must be magic n' ****, I guess.
Plus, Legolas was totally only in there for fanboys. It is mentioned at one point in the books that the king of the wood elves is the father of Legolas, but Legolas himself is never mentioned.
And the most glaring plot hole of all: SAURON. Yes, the "Necromancer" was intended to be the spirit of Sauron when Tolkien wrote the book...BUT...Gandalf and the White Council didn't know this conclusively until Gandalf asked Frodo to toss the ring into the fire so he could check for the "black speech" inscriptions. And yet, Gandalf discovers in no uncertain terms that Sauron has returned in Hobbit part 2. This completely negates the entire first THIRD of the Fellowship movie/book. WTF Jackson? Lol.
Yeah...that molten gold bit...Uh...Dwarvish toughness! That's it.
Still better than the Eragon movie though.
Final note...I think this side convo might be off topic.
