Rise of Mankind: A New Dawn is a new sequel of the great Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword game. A New Dawn serves as a new expansion, adding a huge and balanced new technology tree, putting emphasis on new buildings, new units and new technologies.

Hello!

In case you've missed it, these last months were the theater of large changes for the mod. The march 2015 build is now released, here are the latest major changes.


  • Launcher:

The mod now has a launcher which can extend the possibility of modifications for Civ IV! It allows to set custom textures, to enable more graphical units on the map (formations), to change the interface color, to add many new languages and to centralize all the important links about the mod community.
The launcher is also fully compatible with Linux (with Wine) and MacOS (with Wine or Crossover).

  • A continuous release system:

As we are only a small team of developers, we have developed a update system from the launcher. It allows to easily update your mod in one-click! This change makes the game development a lot easier for us because we can publish monthly build and forget the old patch system. Once you install a full build, you will be notified if there are further updates.

  • New languages:

We have worked hard to support new languages. Initially supported only by the main languages of Civ IV (English, French, German, Italian, Spanish), we have extended the engine capacity to support a large list of languages:
Afrikaans, Albanian, Arabic, Basque, Belarusian, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Catalan, Chinese, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Farsi, Filipino, Finnish, French, Gaelic, Gallego, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Icelandic, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Lao, Lithuanian, Latvian, Malaysian, Maori (Ngai Tahu), Maori (Waikoto Uni), Norwegian, Nynorsk, Polish, Portuguese, Portuguese (Brazil), Romanian, Russian, Samoan, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish (International), Swedish, Thai, Tongan, Turkish, Ukrainian and Vietnamese.

At the moment, the game is translated (more than 50%) in Chinese, English, Finnish, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Russian and Spanish.
Some of our translators are working hard to bring support for these new languages: Brazilian, Czech, Danish and Greek. You've read it, Civ IV in new languages!
Hopefully, it is now easier than ever to translate the game in your language; just follow the instructions here: Forums.civfanatics.com

  • A new promotional website:

Fresh and informative, this website will resume all the features of the mod, the installation notes, the FAQ, the history and credits. It is translated in 9 languages yet.

  • X units-per-tile was fixed:

A lot of work was put into improving this feature which limit the number of units of the tile (Civ V style). It is now crash-free. However, we recommend to play with at least 2 or 3 UPT to enjoy the game. The AI still has some problems with this but we're actively working on improving the pathfinding.

  • A new diplomatic screen:

The work isn't finished yet, but you can use the diplomatic screen to ease the diplomacy with other civs: auto-accept / auto-deny based on some rules. The next phase of the work will be an improvement of the ambassadors and the add of "commend" and "comdenm" the other Civilizations.

  • Contact decay:

If you do not set embassies with your neighbors, you can slowly loose contact with them!

  • Tweaked revolutions:

The revolutions are more frequent to put some spice back into the game!

  • New textures:

The 4 best texture sets have been merged into the mod!

  • New event:

The earth could possibly fall into a dark age which will slow down everyone!

  • New feature: Hunt for food and glory

During the ancient era, try to hunt as many animals as possible and gather them in your empire to generate new resources and to delight your population with new myths and legends that will aid the development of your civilization.

  • A new main menu:

Somewhat unreal, the earth moves around the sun to heat the main menu.

  • A lot of balance updates, fixes, etc.:

Our team is working hard to make this the more polished expansion pack ever developed for Civilization IV!

Hey!
Thanks for Rise of Mankind and now this modmod ;-) I played a previous Rise of Mankind and it was great.
But I have a problem, I can't install "A new dawn". When I install all seems to go ok but at the end a pop-up appears and it says that windows can't find "Woc_Installer.jar".

I have checked, I have that file I have even put the installer on the same path but the same message keeps on appearing...What am I doing wrong??

The installer has to have the "Rise of Mankind" folder selected, any other folder will cause it to fail. I'm afraid I can not offer you any more details without more specific information. If you could, post here, where I am more likely to notice. (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=344523)

um there's a problem it seems rise of mankind 2.8 has been replaced by 2.9 will it work with this version? i tried to find the 2.8 version it doesn't seem to be any were :(.

Follow the Instructions to the letter. That error message implies that you did not select the Rise of Mankind folder with the installer.

Also, please post bug reports or help requests in the CivFanatics Forum, I don't check here very often.

if i followed he instructions to the letter...then would i be installing it in the ROM folder of the Civ4-BTS folder like it tells me to.
also ...im getting numerous xml errors and am unable o start the game...but i know its something that i did....any suggestions

You can check by entering the civilopedia. Inside it should have a new section at the bottom, label "A New Dawn Concepts" If it isn't there, you need to follow the installation directions on the summary.

Also, please post bug reports or help requests in the CivFanatics Forum, I don't check here very often.

Thx for replying. I checked and A New Dawn concepts isn't there.

Whenever I was installing A New Dawn I did get an error at the end of the install.

Error: Windows cannot find 'woc_installer.jar' make sure you typed in the name correctly and then try again.

However, and uninstall icon for A New Dawn appeared on my desktop and the install wizard said it was successful so I went ahead and installed the patch. But like I said....the A New Dawn concepts did not appear in the civilopedia and their did not appear to be any new nukes or nuke abilities.

I also posted about this on your bug thread forum (concept of belts and suspenders is what i'm adhering to by posting this problem in two places...forgive me). Thanks in advance for your help.
