Rise of Kings is a revolutionary total conversion modification for Rise of Nations: Thrones and Patriots that recreates the Medieval era. Set across 3 ages and with 24 factions to choose from, this is one of the largest and most ambitious mods for Rise of Nations.
We've now done custom infantry models for the reislaufer (swiss mercenary halberdiers) and the pavise arbalests.
Great work as always!
Thank you!
Brilliant work, especially the turbans of some of the Reislaufer. I was worried over how the pavise men would appear but you exceeded my expectations!
Thanks, I'm glad you're happy with them!
Will you be working on the Italian and Russian infantry next? are there plans to fix the Byzantine infantry too?
I know about the Russian infantry, but I don't know which Italian and Byzantine units you are referring to. If you could add them to that list of models on the RoN Heaven forum, that would be great. Just remember though that I am only fixing units where it is necessary, as I also have Kings and Conquerors to work on.
Italian Magistral Guard needs fixing, Gridni have glitchs re spears and axes, and Caterans, Dvor and Islamic Ahdath need true bardiches. Italian infantry to change may include the Orsini marksmen (who need proper steel caps and barbutes).
I have but one complaint re the Pavise Arbalests: change the colour of their shields and give them more generic designs, since they aren't recruited by Christian factions, but by the Moors as well. Or am I to reskin the Islamic ones once you are done?
So basically I need to do everything mentioned on that list on the forum as well as the Magistral Guard and Orsini Marksmen (does the latter unit really need a new model though?).
Why are the Moors able to recruit Pavise Arbalests? It seems kind of inaccurate. Anyway, if they are to receive them, the pavise won't be the only thing that will need changing, since there is nothing Moorish about these models.
The only units left to re-skin are the Sino-Mongol Conscript Swordsmen (only a plumed hat is required); Shenbinu Infantry (see above) ; Lithuanian Axe Retinue, Hirdmenn - these units should be wielding Sparths, and are the very ones that should be taken care of; Caterans - there are 2 versions of these units - 1 with Sparths, the other with swords and bucklers; Gridni - There are 2 versions of the Gridny, 1 with Sparths, the other with simple spears like Spearmen; and Dvor, Ahdath - Bardiches. Depending on your preferences, Byzantine and Polish infantry UUs may need a makeover but I would rather leave it to your discretion.
If you have finalised the Pavise Arbalest models, you can send the tgas back to me for retooling, since it should not be too difficult. Moors like most south Europeans were fans of pavises and crossbows, due to Christian influence. Some of the armour and weapons were also influenced by the same, just as much as Iberian Christians were also affected - according to David Nicolle's work on Osprey they also had heraldic flags and patterned shields like their Christian counterparts.
For now I will do new models for the sparth and bardiche-wielding units, but not for any of the spear or sword variations, since they can be created without custom models. Once I finish the necessary models, I might make some models for other units, but as I am also busy with Kings and Conquerors, I can't guarantee that I will.
Take it slow, that is all I can say. Try not to rush things.
