13 comments by OverRated on Feb 12th, 2015

Some time ago we dropped RVE 1.2 as the next version number and changed it to 2.0, the reason being was we didn't want people thinking RVE 1.2 was just a update of 1.1, when its so much more so that's the reason behind the version number change, I was also calling it 1.2 from force of habit but no more .

I thought i would post up in the news feed what the current progress with the mod and what we are working on at this point in time plus some info about RVE 2.0.

Mod Progress

There is currently only two members of RVE team, me and Avtius_12, We did have some helpers at some point but they have moved on so please understand the amount of time needed to do a overhaul of a game when its just two people working on it.

Mod Progress is slow at the moment as the Research Tree layout are holding use but i have been working on other parts of the mod but to start bug/balance testing we need the tree up and running in the mod.

We are holding off adding new units to the mod until we have balanced the units already in the mod adding more units just pushing the mod back even more from a Public release.

Research Tool

We didn't hit our donation goal for the research tree editor, So we had to use funds for the mod manager that we had put aside but as the research tree editor as it was a higher priority.

Mod Manager

Fundraising has started for a new mod manager to be made, lets see if we can hit the goal so this happens, the new mod manager will bring in Multi-Language support for users running non English version of windows, new features like setting the unit cap and other game options along with side mods, this manager will also have a Hash number so you can check if your running the same mods as a friend!

UPDATE 23-03-15
Thanks to every one that donated, it really did show the support for SC2 and RVE , As the mod manager will be programmed on the behalf of RVE it will not be limited to just RVE, any mods can support it as long as the mod creators make there mod to do so.

Programming for the new mod manager is booked in , The programmer that made the research tree tool will be programming it, we are just waiting for his to finish up a current job.

Thanks again.

HAHA you wouldn't be the 1st and wont be the last, People have to understand this is a mod, we are only 2 people and we work on it in our free time, we don't get paid to work on it or it would be finished by now, I don't live at home with my mummy, i have to work for a living and i have other things in my life that need my time as well, so you can ether wait or **** off because really at the end of the day i wont lose any sleep.

I know I know. I really want this to just be released and I love what you guys are doing but it has been a LONG time as well as you guys saying that things will happen within this time frame and then they don't... It isn't always your fault its just that it makes me wonder if this will be out within the next year. People don't like getting hyped and getting their hopes up only for it to never happen.

Well things happen in life and some times not for the best, if life was a straight line the mod would of come out when we had said, but more important things came up for me over the last few months which took me away from work and home.

At the moment we are testing each unit and making sure they are balanced right because releasing a unbalanced version just creates more work when we have to re-upload it again every day after working on it, when the balance is done there will be more updates including new units, effects, ability's and what ever else we come up with, at this point the mod will be out soon maybe this month or the next but as always it will be early access and it wont be finished or complete.

Supply and demand... right now there is a lot of demand and no supply. Even if you did release and unbalanced version people would love it. People do this with actual games as well. Like the people over at Digital Extremes who work on Warframe. They will release an updated every Wednesday and then release quick-patches throughout the week. Yes, there are moments where they release a weapon that is WAY overpowerd but they are able to fix it within hours. I know that they are getting payed and that they have an entire team but I'm sure that people would be a little more lenient with mod makers like yourselves. Weekly updates are really nice but even if you did a balance patch once every month you could get things pretty balanced and not too out of order.

If the past two years of watching this mod has taught me anything, it's that Overrated and Avitus focus on quality, more than quantity, they produce a model, go back over the model a few months later to make sure it's perfect, then perfect the perfection to ensure it's the best, then go over it a few more times before they have a model they're satisfied with. You can see this just by looking at the sheer amount of re-models they've done. This quality in modders is extremely rare, as you can find plenty of people that half-*** mods just to get content out there.

There have been people waiting a lot longer than you dude, and the only reason this mod is worth dying for, is because of the quality of the work put in by Overrated and Avitus so far, you think half-assing it at the final hurdle is a good idea?

I understand where you're coming from, but we all have to remember that we're all in this community together from the sheer amount of work Avitus and Overrated put into constructing it's foundations to begin with. I feel it should be them who puts the final nail in project, and at their own pace.

Well said and its supporters like you which inspire us so thanks you.

@ ShadowGhost2 There is no point in releasing the mod when its unbalance because it wouldn't be playable, This isn't just a update of 1.1 its a new mod and every unit has been rebalanced closer to FA unit stats, now when doing any coding in such a large amount errors are made and also things are missed which is why we have to go over each unit in game, we have just switched to drop box to speed up the mods production so the mod is in one place for testing, We are still modders at the end of the day and like wkdalz said we will continue to fix and replace things in each update at the moment we are working to getting the mod out as stable as we can.

Again, I love what these guys are doing I just want at least something... also releasing it now wouldn't be half-assing it. That's why patches exist. That was my entire point in my previous comment. I don't want them to make lower quality work, I just want them to release what they already have and then continue to work on it the same way they have been while the rest of us tinker with the released version. PLUS we would be finding bugs for them that they haven't already noticed. There is literally no downside to this as long as they stick with it.

What if the game is just that incomplete a state, that no amount of external testing would have helped? Just give them time to finish what they need.

Also OverRated, the mod would be playable but it won't be as enjoyable as you would have intended. People release broken games and games that have things that are WAY overpowered than the rest, but like I said earlier they are often balanced in future updates. People still play the game because it is FUN. We don't need it to be prefect, we just want something to play. Those errors that you are talking about can be overlooked as long as you are working to fix them.

Yes its stable that doesn't mean its playable to the point where you can have a match with a friend and enjoy it.

ShadowGhost2 Jun 21 2015, 12:20pm replied:

Again, you may not think it is enjoyable but as long as it runs on my PC at all and makes sense then it is fine. Also I never said that it would be with friends. I just want to see and explore what has come out already. Also would the reason that I wouldn't be able to have a match with a friend and enjoy it be because of bugs that break the game or game elements that would always win? Because I don't really care about either of those.

Thought you gave up on waiting lol, even when the mods released probably next month a lot of units, features and effects will be missing, until we are happy with the overall game play at that point in time, adding new units after will be easier to balance alone.
