The goal of Resistance and Liberation is to realistically portray the events and actions taken by the 82nd Airborne during their stay in Normandy. We will attempt to follow the regiments through the campaign that was taken by the men themselves. We will also introduce various other World War II setting maps. The campaign will begin with players dropping into Normandy in the early hours of June 6th with the ultimate goal of capturing the town of Sainte-Mère-Église. From there, subsequent maps will include missions based on locations such as Saint-Côme-du-Mont, La Fiere, Sainte-Marie-du-Mont, Carentan, and other key areas.

Our approach
in recreating these events is quite different than that of most standard first person games. The principal of our focus is on playable realism. This realism we are referring to is beyond that of Counter-Strike or Day of Defeat. We are attempting to recreate the environment, weapons, challenges, and feeling of WWII combat to the best of our ability while still providing a game that feels fun and comfortable for at least a significant subset of gamers.

Blog RSS Feed Report abuse Latest News: Open Beta 1.6 Released!

35 comments by Malivil on Jul 30th, 2011

Welcome back! It has been a week and as promised today we are releasing Patch 1.6!

If you are unaware of what promise I am referring to then check out this link as it contains a lot of information about Patch 1.6. If you already read that news then I would like to bring some points back to your attention. AndY, redMatter, and Pongles helped us continue work on patch 1.6 so that it can be released now. We cannot show our thanks enough. Also in that news post is a request for any talented developers with high priority on the positions of 3rd Person Animator and Prop Modeler/Texturer. If you are interested in mod development or know anybody that is then send them here.

This past week a few of the developers on the team sat down with Shawn "Deadrawkstar" Kiehl and Rob Harmon from to answer some questions about RnL and Patch 1.6. The interview is all ready and posted so check it out on their website, here.

While you are downloading the patch, feel free to look at some eye candy and read through the huge changelog. Seriously, between the changelog and the ModInformer interview, you have a lot to help you pass the time while this immense patch downloads.

Even though RnL may be back on track, we are still in need of help. The RnL Developers have been busting their butts on this patch and with so few developers the workload is huge. A round of applause needs to go out to the devs that have been working this hard. Even better than a round of applause though is filling some badly needed positions. Our current priorities lie with getting a 3rd Person Animator and Prop Modeler/Texturer, but any help from Software Engineers to Level Designers would be greatly appreciated. To fill out an application for any position, please visit this link.

Moving on to the fun part. I have been too busy to make an episode of Inside Surveillance for this release, however Hunnicutt and our newest addition to the team, Robinson, picked up my slack and made a video that shows off some key changes since the last patch. With that being said, I will turn your attention to the video.

There was a bug in the server code that made it impossible to capture points. If you have already updated your server to OB 1.6, please download the hotfix here.

i love the idea of three positions. and i have thought of the same thing and found something that would work. i also understand that realism is very big in your mod so hopefully my concept will be accepted
(the makers of cs would die before they let what i am about to suggest happen)

1) first position: this postion is where the player points the weapon towards the ground otherwise known as the ready position. the advantage of this is that it allows more movement. for instance, this mode would be used when sprinting. as the player runs. the gun may be lifted from side to side as it is natural when the arms swing. it is also used for tight quarters such as a building. think about it; if you are going into a building with hallways and turns and you want to clear it quickly, pointing the gun up (or the normal mode for most fps) would restrict movement, because the barrel of the rifle will be in the way and hitting walls. of course you cannot fire from this position. it is also a standard position because it is sort of a resting position that doesn't drain stamina.

2) second position: this would be your hip position and the advantage is that it keeps general visiblity of your surroundings with being able to fire your weapon (this would be the normal mode for most fps). it is also ideal for close combat, because if a person was standing about 15 feet in front of you could "aim" in the general center of the screen and you would be able to get a hit. this is more favorable than the iron sights mode for closer combat, because bringing the sights into view would take too much time, and trying to shoot close, moving targets would just be impratical. this is generally for more rapid and automatic fire.

3) third position: this is of course the iron sights position. it would prove unuseful to fire rapid successive shots because the recoil would jolt the sights and therefore make it hard to see the target, and most shots would not even hit. this is for more semi automatic and single shots. iron sights also includes scopes. i hate it when you scope and everything around it turns black; everything around the scope should be kept the same except for one change: it should be out of focus. but of course the scope or sights should be in perfect focus.

hope this helps. but pm me for questions

Overrated and utter garbage. Adds pretentious "realism" and brings nothing new to any WW2 FPS/Mod.

Limited community makes it worse
