The goal of Resistance and Liberation is to realistically portray the events and actions taken by the 82nd Airborne during their stay in Normandy. Our initial release will follow the regiments through a campaign that mimics that followed by the men themselves. The campaign will begin with players dropping into Normandy in the early hours of June 6th, with the ultimate objective of capturing the town of Sainte-Mere-Eglise. From there subsiquent maps will include missions based on other key areas after the D-Day.

A while ago, we decided to ditch Source and move on to UE4 instead. And now we
are going as strong as ever with the RnL remake that is in the works.

Well, we have our reasons for this move. If you have followed the development of Valve recently, you'll know why :D

What do you dislike about the move though? Hardware reasons?

one one hand, i really like the source engine, from its great customization to the funny ragdoll physics, but on the other hand if thats the reason why you decided to change i cant totally respect the change, that said, not many UE4 games run well on my PC so im kinda disapointed, but who knows, maybe it runs well.

Funny ragdolls is hardly the reason, it is the fact Source is dated and no longer updated... It´s end of Source era already.

Oh well, there may be some hardcore fans still working on old SDKs, that is true.

But lots of other things aside, Valve somewhat broke Source 2009s server browser years ago and never bothered fixing it. I can never see a server in the in game server browser for example, while it's fine in the steam server browser. And good luck getting that version to compile with a new VS version (or get your hands on an old one for that matter)

2013 was never fully opened to the modding community as far as I remember and Source 2 is nowhere to be seen with Steam Dev Days being cancelled until 2019. So that's not going to happen either.

So.. even if we wanted to stay on Source, it would be a bad choice.

i compleatly agree, source is a mess, but that doesnt mean UE4 should be the first option

We've weighed it against other engines, like CryEngine and Unity and it simply fit the best. Don't feel like buying more "pro" tools for Unity like shader support or proper networking that you get for free with UE. No thanks :D

but thats the thing, why depend on mainstream engines for this kind of thing, why not something open source like iD tech 4?

Because it is as old as Source (2004), about as convoluted and crap to work with and since some of us do work in the industry, the knowledge of working with such an old engine is useless.

just because source is a mess it doesnt mean iD tech 3 is a mess too, specially since its open source and it has a GPL'ed sourceport, not to mention that it doesnt have 100 ******* versions like source
