Two years ago the developers of a mod called Resistance and Liberation took a leap of faith. They felt that completely reprogramming the mod for Source 2007, i.e., the Orange Box was necessary to achieve the final product they were seeking. This was a bold move that cost the team another large break between updates. Despite this weight on the developer’s minds, they persevered through months of work with the mindset that they would eventually achieve the goal they had set out for. Today is May 1st and that means it is time for a main page update.
James "SharpShot" Beltran has passed his Rite of Passage assignment and is now officially a new member of the Resistance and Liberation Team. He will be adding and editing the game's sound effects as our new Sound Engineer.
A new wiki has appeared! We felt that it was time to replace our old FAQ with something new and interesting. With that in mind, we decided to add a community-driven wiki to our site. Yes, that's right. We want YOU to fill it with good, RnL related, information and tips. You can check it out here. But beware, we have moderators who aren't afraid to beat you down if you feel like going on a vandalizing spree. Other than that, have fun with it!
The April 1st update was based on a series of jokes that the developers have had in the past couple months. Despite those jokes, there was a section of semi-truth. To ease your thoughts, it wasn’t the first picture. That was pieced that together by me from different sources and therefore is completely fake. The area of “semi-truth” is actually the second paragraph and picture.
The picture is from one of Stefan’s secret maps. Those of you with a good memory will remember it as the dark map we showed several pictures of last summer. Work on this map named Wachsenburg was stopped due other things needing Stefan’s attention, but it is still on the to-do list.
Also, it is true that the beta testing team was let go. We have come upon a crux in the development stage where a lot of feedback is needed. To fulfill this need, it has been decided that beta testing will be opened up to the public. Please read the next part carefully as I am sure many people will get the wrong idea.
On May 15th, the Beta test will be open to the public. Do not be mistaken as this is NOT the actual Beta release. Before we can release beta in full, we need feedback. Following the initially released build will be subsequent builds to add other game pieces/maps for testing and bug fixes. This will be setup such that the server.dll file- the file that allows server hosting- will not be included in the beta test builds. We have designated server hosts that will run beta test servers for the duration of this public beta test. There will be no private server management as all servers will be dedicated to beta testing. Also, with the first build, there will be a changelog posted that indicates changes since Alpha 4.Lastly, there will be an official bug report thread so that we can get constant feedback. It cannot be stressed enough that this is not a full release, but a restricted beta test build.
With that being said, stick around until May 15th!
Awesome! Can't wait!
So this is a beta for the beta? lol im down.
Yo dawg, we heard you liked betas, so we put a beta in your beta so you can test while you test....
Seriously though, sounds good.
Oh God, yes ! I've been waiting for this for a looong time ! I even tried to join the "Private" Beta but my account was always disabled for some reason...
Congrats guys on the beta release on the 15th, hope it goes smoothly and looking forward to playing. Top job...
yay, confusing but i think i got it
its the beta testing for the beta, so that you can release the beta and then the beta testers can play the full beta instead of just testing the beta beta.
yeah think i got that
We literally fired the beta testing team like 2 months ago.
This Open Beta is a way to test the current stage of the game for things that the 3 beta testers that showed up to tests couldn't.
It's difficult to find dedicated people for testing. I can vouch for that. Everyones interested at first, but they usually aren't willing to make the commitment needed.
Still, the smaller group of guys we had that did the right thing actually became friends of mine, so it can be frustrating but you can meet good people that way too, just at about a 1/10 ratio.
nicee, can't wait for this beta (opportunity)
Awesome news!
Cool guys! I hope that you get many useful things to improve and put on the Beta version, to make it more awesome than it already is!
schweet!!
So looking forward to this. =)
How about you call it an Alpha then o_O? This should clarify some confused minds xD
Uhhh... 'cause we already have an alpha release?
This is a limited release of the Beta version of the game, hence Open Beta.
Uhhh, sounds like you're not exactly the most clued up person on software versioning and development cycles yourself from your posts and comments. So why get all narc'd when someone is merely having a joke?
I should think I am "clued up" on software development cycles being that I'm the lead coder for RnL at the moment...
Also, it didn't seem like a joke to me. I thought it was an honest question, so I answered it as such.
Wow, way to overreact there my man. The internet isn't exactly the easiest place to detect tone of voice, but please use your head before commenting in such a fashion.
10 days to go!
looking forward to it.
Where is the beta? it's May 15th D:
