Research and Development is a puzzle-centric mod for Half-Life 2: Episode Two featuring an unarmed player but plenty of violent mayhem.
A truly fantastic mod.
The puzzles are diverse and interesting.
Some parts are frustrating (Cart riding with grenade throwing enemies, and the start of Chapter 4), but the rest is a real blast... literally.
There's also some funny momments and a few references (e.g. A-Team).
The only reason it's not getting a 10, is that it took me 3 hours to complete, which is too short. Others might get more time out of it, so I imagine it deserving a higher score for those cases.
Overall, it's a must play, and i cannot wait to see a sequel to it!
Research and Development is an extremely unique idea. The player solves puzzles and engages in combat with dangerous foes, soley using the Gravity Gun.
Playing this mod reminded me of Portal, in the way that all puzzles are different and that combat is purely strategic. This may very well be the most beautifully executed mod I have ever played. If you have any doubts about downloading it, ignore them.
One of the best mods in Half Life 2 atmosphere. The best thing about this mod is a lot of logic puzzle, source event system is pushed to limit. Every room presenting something new in Source modding. Very clever, and beautiful- level design also advanced- in Episode 2 style, maybe a bit better. Generally 10/10 you won't find a mod like this! Worth playing, best gameplay ideas on Source in your hands.
Amazing work! I actually forget when playing this, that it's a mod. It feels like like a company spent a year with a team creating this work. I really enjoyed the fact that there were so many puzzle elements, that blended with sections of action and adventure.
Very well written and directed dude!
