Republic at War is a total conversion modification for Star Wars Empire at War Forces of Corruption. The mod replaces the Empire with the Galactic Republic and the Rebel Alliance with the Confederacy. Republic at War focuses heavily on the theatrical films but also contains content from the Clone Wars cartoon series as well as the expanded universe. Players can re-enact various Clone War campaigns such as the Outer Rim Sieges. Players will have the choice to fight as either the CIS or the Republic and wage war for control of the galaxy. Realism is key and players will have unprecedented control over how and where they fight. Push forward with an entire clone legion such as the 501st or 212th or overwhelm your opponent with a seemingly endless number of B1 battledroids. The choice is yours. There are also a number of expansions planned that will add new (as well as polish existing) content.
Republic at War is a "mod" for Empire at War: Forces of Corruption. The reason I put quotations around mod is because it doesn't even look like a mod. When I say mods look or don't look like a game, I generally don't exaggerate. I bought Empire at War just to get this mod! There is just to much content for this to be considered a mod. And now they are coming out with a new update! To tell the truth this mod has a LOT of potential. Campaigns can be created and stories can be told, but that is not what is important. What is important is that you have a solid structure to build upon. In this genres case it would be; the waging of battles, the textures of the planets, the difficulty of the AI, and the quality of the units. This mod has a VERY solid structure, you CANNOT STOP! This mod will raise the bar for all other mods, and cause lazy modders to get off their ***** and do some work. This mod has a VERY BAD drawback though. The HUGE BONUS the =CIS gets in the beginning of the game. There is a way you can stop this though. The Pause button in your ally, use it to your advantage and plan while the enemy is motionless. For all those experiencing problems with the AI and their aggressiveness, take over their economic and Capital Ship powerhouse planets. Their economy will falter and victory will be yours. In all I give this mod a (MEDAL OF ACHIEVEMENTS) 10/10
I love this mod! I only have a few problems:
1) Venator-class Star Destroyers don't have eight turrets, they have eight dual-heavy turbo laser cannons--The Venator is the capitol ship class of the republic, and its very strong, so why give it only turrets?
Due to the lack of communication between the developers of this mod to their loyal fans, I have grown tired of having to try and pray that I don't get swarmed at one of my core worlds early in the game since the CIS apparently has an armada on some planet in the core.
The balancing issues are still huge, I cannot get any progress made ON EASY as the Republic. Strategy or not, I should not be losing star system after star system by a swarm of enemy ships on easy mode, that I cannot respond to fast enough despite having no issues whatsoever when I am fighting them on my own term.
Apparently every CIS world also has their space stations maxed early, as even with four venators and a huge array of other ships and fighter types, I still suffer extremely heavy losses. Why? Because one droid carrier can take out an entire Venator Star Destroyer, and those frigates that droids get in space by garrison units? Those are the make or breaks, as they just keep coming.
I am being generous by giving this a three, I should only give it a 1, but the content in Instant Action is fun to play, and that is this game's ONLY redeeming quality.
Spectacular mod and so far a wide range of units play around with. It was just a bit hard playing it because im not the best rts player out there and even on easy in galactic conquest the ai would constantly rush all my planets in one go. But nevertheless awesome mod and modelling aswell!!
before I get into it, I Will say that this is a BEUTIFUL Mod, and I WANT to run it...
but there's an Issue; and this is why I gave it such a low rating:
- The CIS is designed to win, the Republic is designed to lose.
I say this because such imbalance is IMPOSSIBLE to accidently create.
Now, I'm not saying you guys are A-holes, this mod is otherwise AMAZING!! but I gotta wonder what the thought line was here...I just got off of trying to play a 'Outer Rim Sieges', and the CIS blew through me with one fleet that was a little bigger that the one I had started with on the planet they attacked(but they had a Lucrehulk, which meant that I was going to loose), and a doom fleet.
I don't know what I'm on about... I'm hoping that 1.2 fixes the issue...
