We did have a homepage at a place called network54 which help us but one day it got abanded along with all our pictures, files, download area. The only thing that still stays is the forum but none of the links work of course. I guess it is time to say goodbye to Network54.com.

Now, we can say hello to my Redsun2020 blog (and of course ModDB) to handle all the media information. The blog will have all latest updates and links to other special media coolness like HD walkthrough of the game and snapshot library of all the levels (currently in progress).

One thing people have told me throughout the years, is we did not spend much time on promotional and media content of the mod. This is what I am trying to do now. (Better than never right?)

Nevermind.. after realizing that I'm supposed to go to the Kabuki Cho (apparently Yosuke gave me a entertainment pass... why the hell didn't he say that hes giving it to me, or atleast have the game tell me I received it)
That and before hand running around looking for the keypad code for the Westside Dock, only to find I had it in my notes all along, the game sneaked it in there for some reason...

Anyway I finished the mod and I'm quite disappointed.

Now that I have that off my chest lets look at the rest of the mod. The mod has alot of books, but theres only about 10 that are different, the rest are all duplicates. Why put so many books in the game level after level, if theres only 10 or so different ones? Theres a saying that applies here...If you're going to do something do it right.

East Shinjuku was terrible large, each street unrecognizable from the other, no signs, no advertisements, no cars... how can such a large area be so empty? Its really saddening to see how almost no work was put in it. It should have had all of those details, as well as items to find, secret places and alot side missions from people around. Actually Kabuki Cho suffers from the same problems East Shinjuki does.
My biggest problem is that you can't talk to anyone in East Shinjuku (apart from 1 riot cop) and you can only talk to about half the people in Kabuki Cho. Thats a big no-no in Deus Ex. You should be able to talk to everyone even if its just some tiny dialog.

The bank mission is rather plain and I did not know where to go or what to do aside from some vague idea of a golden buddha on the 3rd floor... and it was even worse in terms of a large spacious environment with alot of running around, nothing to interact with, no people to talk to and no new books.
Getting lost in the underground shopping plaza after talking to the 'aqua lady', which turned out to be nothing compared to the tedium of the final level.

The lost city is just... well stupid. How can the Lost City have such a huge interior? and how can it have all that lava? Its just ugly to look at and makes no sense. It would have made more sense for it to be alot like the Paris catacombs from Deus Ex.

The biggest problem was that after many hours of play, there's a big break in the plot after the Lost City. The AI sends you back to the office complex and then the mod limps to an end and with a basically open admission that the plot made no sense and was effectively abandoned... Anti climax.

Oh yeah and some minor bugs, such as the infinite experience book (I couldn't resist having expert computer skills, as it makes such a difference to how long the game takes to play), some empty aug canisters that I had to haul all over the game, goals that would not clear here and there.

Overall the mods creators should have spent alot more time on East Shinjuku, Kabuki Cho, the bank, replacing that horrendous back drop in the lost city and making a coherent ending, alot more work on adding books and ironing out bugs. Perhaps some voice acting would be a nice addition but you shouldn't even think about that till the main issues are resolved.

If the author ever updates the mod and tries to clean it up, I think all the work put in it will not be in vain.

A few years ago I contacted one of the developers and got the original Conversation files, and I actually re-wrote the vast majority of the dialogue and completely altered the ending. But then I lost it moving between computers.

As a huge Deus Ex fan I just had to point this out. Unless the title is misleading me, as I have not actually played the mod (sorry for critisizing it anyways), Nanotech was not available until the mid 2040s. Even then, it was barely out of prototype stage and only used by MJ12 and it's facade organisation UNATCO. In fact, Paul Denton is the first human who was succesfully augmented using Nanotech and that was in 2050 (JC received Nanotech-upgrades in 2052). That's just what bothers me about the title, there simply is no Nanotech in 2020 past a few blueprints and the Illuminati's plan for Paul Denton to be a clone archetype. It's not possible for Joseph to be a fully augmented agent in this year. This is pretty much canon since Deus Ex and it's cemented in Human Revolution.

I don't want to say this mod is bad, this is just an important fact to me as I am a huge Deus Ex fan. I guess it's just an alternate universe.

Firstly, I wouldn't consider it canon.
Secondly, I don't think it's set in the year 2020, Perhaps the title is somewhat misleading.
However, I could be wrong.

Very true. Not sure if the title is literal or not (haven't played the game), but it's fair to assume this isn't really designed to be canon because it's just a silly, fun mod.

Redsun2020 is very comparable to Zodiac mod for Deus Ex; they are both about 15 hours to play through and they both have no sound dialogue. But that's OK! Of the two however, Zodiac is much better.

The main critique I have with RS2020 is I really can't think of any level which stands out. This is what I think makes a retrospect a good review of a mod or not: if you can remember the levels, if they stand out in the memory, then that game has made a good impression on you.

With the Zodiac Mod, even though I played it 6 months ago, I can still remember the levels: The CIA building, the water tower, the lawn, the sub-levels, the coffin chamber, the airport, the plane, the president in the bunkers, the amazing UFO in the science lab, the eerie alien underground society.

All those levels were memorable and I will always remember them.

But with RS2020, I'm struggling to remember parts; bear in mind I just literally finished RS2020 3 hours ago and all I'm remembering is vague elements of labs, sewers, some city streets, a hotel lobby, some more sewers, some labs/ security stations and a dark subway platform.

A game has to imprint an emotional character for it to be remembered and appreciated. If the RedSun 2020 opening image of a building being blown up was represented in the game: say a hostage situation overseered by a tnt laced maniac AFTER you bonded with likable hostage characters...that would be atmospheric and it would leave a psychological mark. But I never felt any real atmosphere.

All in all, 7/10.

If you love Deus Ex and you want to extend it's game life as much as you can with mods, my picks are from best to to least best:

Nameless Mod - 15-20 hours of gameplay, very professional, a total conversion, full voice dialogue, sub-missions, 2 parallel storylines, good characters (great in the case of Scara B King!), new weapons, improvements, just very professional.

Zodiac Mod - probably the only criticism is the lack of voice dialogue which makes the game almost mute apart from the music and gun sounds.

Hotel Carone: One level but a very good one. THIS is an example of great map design. The premise couldn't be more simple, basically a cube (hotel) with about 10 levels. But within this cube is great level design. This is what the Red Sun hotel level could have been but wasn't.

RedSun 2020: Bonus points if you love Japan/ Tokyo, it's OK otherwise.

No don't download a torrent, It is just a slight alteration in the Steam version that stops alot of mods working.
What you need too do is replace the DeusEx.exe in the system folder with a different version.
Could try the Demo's exe, also they have one on the Off Topic Production forums you could look on there.
