An expansion/overhaul mod of epic proportions, with entirely rebalanced gameplay, expanded factions, new gametypes, graphical overhauls, and five new factions; stealth-based Confederate Revolutionaries, tower defense-inspired Atomic Kingdom of China, economy-focused Mediterranean Syndicate, DotA-esque Order of the Talon and spammy Electrical Protectorate.

The color maps still leave quite a bit of detail out and makes the edges all blur and blend together, which will look plain and boring once it is reduced to ingame size. Try to sharpen it up, and more details and try to make more detail so we can get a sense of what this vehicle is made out of.

Also, the use of sharp paneling can also help a little bit.

The texture, from what I understand, is WIP.

Yep. I know what Wip is too. Work in Progress. :P

o.O; BIGGER THAN THE APOC Tank....!?

Omfg.. that's huge. lol
Though, these units seem a lot better than the other factions. :)

Everything on here could be considered a WIP, so stop using it as a cop-out.

I just gave some suggestions that can help make the texture a bit better and compliment the model and the other texture maps with. Hopefully you are thinking the same things I wrote or better.

I'm not necessarily using it as a cop-out, since there still needs to be a lot of changes made to the texture to make it blend in with the Hunter-Killer. The unfortunate thing is that I'm going to be crazy busy all March and won't have a lot of time to work on the texture, so I figured that the texture is good enough for now and it'll have to be updated later. Lazy6, your suggestions are actually very valid and helpful (to me at least). Can you also clarify what you mean by "sharp paneling"?

absolutely, I will help you.

I'm sorry that it was a bit of a snap, but far to often I've seen these kinds of issues this just end with "It's a WIP", when infact it is much better to have a dialog between the artist and the one who critiqued it. That way the artist knows where I'm coming from and pick up a thing or 2, (which is what we are doing now).

Before I get into the paneling, I first off want to say that that all texture maps used (color/diffuse, normals, spec in CnC3) all compliment each other and should not be thought of as separate entities. you can help create different attributes by using a combination of the 3.

Take, for instance, the Cargo plane I did for TD Moddb.com Here you can see what I mean about paneling. It is a bit exaggerated, but it helps it when the unit is at ingame level. This paneling gives a clue about how the unit is constructed (which psychologically helps engulf the player and bring him in to your game because people DO look for things like panels rivets, ect, because it is something they can relate to.). It also adds visual interest very easily and that means less of the other crap you need to put on for an effective texture. This example in particular was not just done with normals, but also using it in a very low opacity for the diffuse, as well as making the area not as shiny in the specular map.

If any of you guys need more help, feel free to PM me, and I'll send you some sample PSDs/renders

Also, what I mean by sharp is that everything should be crisp, clean edges. Blur is bad for RTS unit textures, it makes all the detail basically blob into one and it makes the forms of the unit look sloppy and amorphis. You'd be surprised how much better a texture will look in game, especially the Sage/RNA engine, when just a simple sharpen filter (or 2) is applied. It really makes all of your details pop and make them clearly visible even at full zoom out.

these models seem much much much improved from earlier examples!! Excellent job :) although the lighting and background may have to do with it to.

The EP images were made using Blender 3D rather than 3DS Max, that's probably why you see a difference.

One question- Obliterator will be the best ground unit in the game?

No. Best artillery? Certainly. But if the Apoc, Mirage, Oni, Dragon, or Tripletank get in range, well, it's not going to last very long.

Description

The Obliterater Superheavy Artillery is the largest and most powerful Electrical Protectorate ground vehicle. Armed with a pair of massive artillery weapon sets (in this case, it's conventional loadout) the Obliterater is larger than an Apocalypse tank and more powerful than almost any other battlefield weapon in existence. All this power, however, comes at a steep price.
Modelled and Rendering in Blender3D.
