S.T.A.L.K.E.R .Rebalanced. v1.2

Is a global mod in a single complete package that aims to provide an evolutionary enhancement of the single most atmospheric game of 2007, if not ever, Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl.  Almost all aspects of the gameplay have been re-balanced to be fair, fun, deadly and a redefinition of your ultimate Stalker experience.

What does all this mean for you?

This mod enhances the retail version of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Shadow of Chernobyl through improved; graphics, sound, balance, AI/A-life, day/night weather, weapon ballistics, ragdolls, quests, trading, unique items, text/interaction, interactivity, artifacts, health & sleep system, options, hidden secrets and bug fixes.  It's hard to explain, but now the game simply feels smooth, like it never has before.

This is a well refined and tested mod that the team has been developing and improving on in one form or another since Stalker's first release in 2007.  Over that time many pages of user feedback have gone into polishing it's many builds and iterations with the last major release being out since January 2009 and the next build has undergone many more improvements, tweaks and implementations that have totally improved upon the end product since then.

Stalkers,

You will be pleased to know that progress on the Reb v1.2 release is going very well at this time. I am making play-through runs testing for aspects of overall balance and other issues. Bug finds are being dealt with, the balance and progression throughout the game is becoming.... YES!

I have had a chance to reflect on the aspects of what I believe Stalker should be, and what I aim to make it into with this mod. The Zone is a gritty place, where ammunitions and other supplies are scarce, hard to come by and expensive. 

The balance I am going for is an excellent blend of challenge, fun and desperation. Stalker is just a better game when you are fighting tooth and nail for every square meter, where decisions have consequences, where the economy is based on scarcity, where the only things you have to use is what you have available at the time and nothing else.

You see Stalker is not a Shooter, it's also not an RPG, it's not a Survival Horror or even an Adventure Game. But it is a blend of elements from all of these genres, plus its own unique characteristics. This is a mix that I believe the developers did not get right in the retail release, and that is what I am addressing in this mod. Previous releases have been too much in favour of the shooter, where ammunition and med kits are plentiful and there is little consequence from a run and gun style of sprinting into fire fights with big magazines on full auto assault rifles. This is a Stalker where you will need to pick your fights, assess your resources, which you may find diminish or change during every contact with the enemy.

Don't get me wrong, there is still scope to play with big guns blazing if that is your preferred gamming style, but if you do, you will have to work for it now.

Hi Flazard and cheers for your interest. The mod is not dead, no, but it is a little dormant at the mo. Many team members have more pressing RL issues to deal with at the moment as well as other modding projects on the go also.

Thanks for your interest. Things are still progressing. I would very much like to be able to post new screen shots of the promising Dead City level, but we have had a difficult time trying to get it to play nice in the current build.

Are you just dying a graphic overhaul or are you adding various things to the game like weapon/armor upgrades and what not?

Also, if it isn't too late, the one thing that would make this mod better than any other (although I have no power to do it myself) is if the A.I actually hid behind cover instead of firing in the open. I don't know if that is possible, but that would make the game dramatically harder I would think.

Edit: Looked at the screens for the older mod and it looks amazing.

Hi Strelok 5K, Rebalanced includes many graphical, audio and other cosmetic enhancements aswell as bug fixes, but it is much more than just that. As the name implies it is a complete re-work of the Stalker balance and progression though the normal story. With new weapons, factions and even quests, etc. The AI is now much more alive and you will find NPCs in places that you didn't expect, but not un-logically so.

AI use of cover is a Clear Sky feature that I am unable to bring to SHOC, but I don't think you will be too disappointed with the many AI enhancements that Rebalanced brings above the usual vanilla experience, and again they are all well tweaked and balanced.

The team is working hard at the moment to polish all of the features and ensure that they all play nice with one-another, it is a tricky balancing act, but a rewarding experience when done right.

Rebalanced v1.2 will be an evolution in Stalker gameplay, this I can assure you of.
