Most models with >3000 poly will crash the SAGE engine or bug out.

The buk SAM building you saw earlier is made of 5000 polys. I tried 3 next to each other, they were not lagging the game.

I just double checked that SAM site... GOD its 10344 polys and its working in game without lag. Thats insane, i will try reducing it to less than 6000. I am really proud of the SAGE engine.

Well, it might not lag if there is only one of them... but what if someone spams them??

there is an export plugin for 3dsmax 7,8, and 9. i am not sure if it works with newer versions. you need to download it and extract it to max's installation directory.

planetcnc.gamespy.com/View.php?id=407&view=Renegade.Detail

After extraction you will find the w3d format in the export window of the file menu in 3dsmax. GOOD LUCK.

The latest and most common T-72 variant you would encounter in the Russian Military is the T-72B Model 1990 (refurbished):

Note this should not be confused with the T-90S or the T-90A Model 1999.

Thats a T-72BA [Kontakt-5], or a T-72 BM. Yes these are the latest version of T72's produced in Russia. Anything more advanced becomes a T90. However you can convert my model easily to the following: T-72BA [Kontakt-3], T-72 B1V, T-72 BV, T-72 S/S1, and T-72 BR.

Modeling a T-72 BM like the one in ur picture will be considered.

The problem with high poly models is the number of the units in the battlefield. In this case you have only few units. Imagine more than 100 + Explosion and other effects... You have to consider this before making the most models and FX because you may find your self with good looking and not working mod... Think well about that. This will save you a lot of trouble...

I totally agree with you, but i wanted to experiment with some higher poly models, maybe i will be able to break some limits. I just tested the 3450 poly model of this tank. The game can handle only 34 of them with explosions and then crash... but that happened while the camera was on a high altitude (700). I am planning a camera altitude of 400 for this mod. Still after those results i will limit the polys to 2000 for tanks. That will save 51000 polys per 34 tanks.

btw its generally known that if you use less subobjects you can increase the poly count, i am currently doing another test with 2500 polys. looks very stable till now.

The T-72B(m) designation only applies to the Rogtaka T-72 Modernization programme. The T-72B Model 1990 does not have the designation T-72BA or T-72BM. It is referred by year of refurbishment/model.

"Can give some light on T-72B with K5 designation if that is not BM..
It's simple.

T-72B (Object 184) can be seen with or without 4S20 Kontakt-1 ERA, there is also T-72B1 (Object 184-1) variant, as T-72B can have or not Kontakt-1, and use simplified FCS without 9K120 Svir system for 9M119 Refleks GLATGM's.

T-72B tanks manufactured somewhere between 1988 to 1989 recived 4S22 Kontakt-5 ERA. These tanks are called by Russians T-72B obr.1989g. These ones were often called T-72B(M) or T-72BM but it is not proper designation for them. There is also slightly newer variant T-72B obr.1990g with slightly improved tank commander cupola.

T-72BU (Object 188) was initial military designation codename for first T-90 (Object 188) variant with cast turret. In fact T-72BU/T-90 (Object 188) is just T-72B "on steroids".

Some T-72B tanks are upgrade to T-72BA standard, this is more a repair program than real modernization, but some of them recive new sights, FCS components etc. Some of them have Kontakt-1 ERA, some have Kontakt-5 ERA.

Newest and most advanced variant was developed during the "Rogatka" program, these tanks are not fielded (yet) as far as I know, and have two military designation codes, T-72BM or T-72B2 and manufacturer designation code Object 184M."

T-72BA ERA fitted with 227 "Kontakt-1" ERA bricks to the hull and turret. The glacis plate and turret is covered with a layer of single ERA blocks and the turret's bottom row is mounted horizontally. There's also an ERA array on the sideskirts. They're often incorrectly called T-72BV.

Kontakt-1 and Kontakt-5 are different ERA packages.

impressive info about the naming, i saw the difference between the ERA earlier. Kontakt-1 and Kontakt-3 look similar while Kontakt-5 is different. I personally liked the pictures of the destroyed T72 tanks in the indian defense forum. I dont know much about the T90, but do you think it is way better than the T72 in terms of armor? it has the kontakt-5.

Description

T-72b model combined from 2 T 72 models found online and some blueprints. This can be easily transformed to some other T-72 Variants even to export versions. polys = 3400. ERA is causing the large poly count. I will test 40 of these in game to see if the game lags. If it lags, I will decrease the polys...
