This is a slightly experimental mod with an unusual story. It is not set inside the Half Life universe and there are some game mechanics which have been subtley altered. The pace starts out slow, and builds up gradually. This mod is intended to be more of an adventure rather than a shooter. If you approach this mod as a pure shooter, then you will probably not enjoy it. There are some intense action scenes, but most of these come later on, much of the earlier parts of the mod are focused on adventure and storytelling. There are numerous cutscenes. I know how some people don't like cutscenes, so the majority of them collect together loosely to make the "introduction". There are a couple of short ones scattered around later, but they never really jerk you away from where you are standing. At any rate - once you have a weapon, the amount of scenes drops off dramatically and the game leaves you in control much more...

Report article RSS Feed Random Quest released!

Random Quest has been officially released on 31st May, 2009. This is the first release.

Posted by Playbus on May 31st, 2009

This mod has been in development for some time but it has been almost entirely un-advertised until today, the day of the first full release. The aim of the mod is to be different and interesting. There is some tough action to be had here, but the mod is mostly adventure-oriented and starts out at a pretty slow pace. If you want to play an all-out shooter, maybe Random Quest isn't for you. But if you've got some patience and are looking for a quality distraction .... then hit that download button, matey!

I finished it. I thought it was clever and well done.
Also, the thought of 'taking different paths' were a good idea too.

I don't want to totally give it away. But you should try and unleash your inner arsonist. ;-)

If that's not enough ... send me an email :D

I figured out how to progress, but I'm not sure what you mean by unleashing my inner arsonist.

(I enjoyed the rest of the game as well by the way.)

Well I'm not exactly sure which bit you mean now. Do you mean just after the guards go away and you can walk around freely at first? Or later?

Thanks for sticking with it, glad you had some fun :D

Just finished playing.

I am impressed, this is really interesting...

I can't say much apart from I wish there was a bit more of a sense of a direction NPC/Story wise.

Like when I reached the two houses with the battery and radio. It didn't make much sense. It would have been real fun if there were some actual mini-quests going on instead of just stealing the gem. so you can earn it.

It is very complex though. I applaud you for what you have accomplished. Some of the mapping is also very nice. Mostly the area where you go down the first hatch. Very new age arcitecture, I also like the melon farm. And of course the design of the outside/inside of the prison. It reminds me of Dreamfall a bit, in the fantasy world.

Sorry for rambling on, but it is a true sign that I enjoyed it none the less.

A level change is supposed to happen there. Try doing that bit again, it usually works. If you still have problems, just skip to the next map by typing "map rq_vista" in the console.

Through the 20 mins ive played this i've got to say it is awsome. It kinda makes you feel like your in a movie or more spesifically in a book although i am having alot of trouble progressing through the game (When i was on the elevator in the beginning i had 11 health, for some reason the enemies aren't dropping their weapons, can't find where to go,etc.)but even with all that i still am really enjoying it (and the fact that im progressing through this at roughly 10 health most of the time adds some strategy to killing the gaurds ;)) the only thing so far i dislike about the game is the gems and that certain parts of the game are ..... well i can't think of a word at the moment but it kinda makes you feel uncertain/confused kinda thing though it isn't that much of a bad thing, it makes me think what if? which kindof annoys me although overall it just adds mystery to the game i suppose anyway to end this horribly long comment quickly and painlessly. This is a great mod i highly recommend at least trying it i'm sure most people will find it highly enjoyable :)

(P.S.PlayBus, is this based off that film random quest or did you just randomly make this and called it random quest? (Gigantic coincidence if you did))

There's a film called Random Quest ?? :-O

I didn't know that (I'm going to look it up after writing this) so I guess it's a co-incidence! The name of this mod is really an excuse. It lets me get away with pretty much anything without really having to explain it. That's what I like about it!

I'm sorry you have had confusion issues with the gameplay. I'll be happy to answer any questions you send me by email (look around in the text files included with the mod download for my email address)

EDIT : I see there is a film called Random Quest! This mod has nothing to do with it...haha!

Thanks!

Yes, this is normal. Most of the guards in the game do not drop their weapons or any ammunition.
