Files for setting up a dedicated server for Ragnarok Arena. Use the Half Life Dedicated Server tool to download the orangebox base files before using...
Across the frozen wasteland that was once North America and Europe, life is what most would consider 'hectic'. Polar shift has decimated life as we know it, and the one people foolish enough to live in these vast tracks of land are the scientists working diligently in the attempt to reverse the scarring changes and the armed factions fighting to control the scientific work. Some do it because they believe the end of the world, Ragnarok, has come, and only those who are the strongest will be chosen to build the world anew while others simply want to rebuild the world. Everyone else just enjoys the bloodbath.
Ragnarok Arena is a sidescrolling multiplayer shooter developed on the Source Engine, famous for it's use in Half-Life 2, Team Fortress 2 and multiple other games. Gameplay is brutal and fast paced, with realism being thrown to the side in exchange for adrenaline-fueled arcade action. Relive the joy of playing in the style of older titles like Mega Man, Contra and metal Slug with friends in eye-popping HD, and with a new control scheme custom-tuned for a keyboard and mouse.
It's been a long time, hasn't it?
Well, alright, it's been something like six months. Time makes fools of us all, especially people who say they're going to be doing routine updates from now on. Admittedly, tragedy had a good helping hand in derailing mod progress -but we seem to be back on track.
What's in store for Beta One point Five?
Originally featured in Ragnarok Arena Remastered Beta 2, the loadout menu combines the best aspects of a class menu, random weapon spawns, and straight up picking what guns you want. Each category will spawn a random weapon from that category for you, taking the chance away from battle. You'll no longer be murdered just because you found a bagel in a crate and your adversary found an RPG.
Aside from two completely new classes of weapons (Assault Rifles and Grenade Launchers), we've also added deployable medpacks for those of you who enjoy playing medic for all your friends.
Gone are the cheap deaths from RA_Cliff. Town and Rockethaus have been combined to form a much larger, much more enjoyable map. Plus three all-new maps, that aren't fifteen dollars.
And of course, a host of bugfixes and tweaks to make playing the mod a much more robust and smooth experience. The tentative release date for Beta 1.5 is currently late February to early March. So, very soon. Of course, Beta 1 is still very playable - and as an added bonus, installable through Desura!
A note for anyone who has installed RA through Desura in the past - there was a bug in the installer that put the files in a folder called "hlss2" instead of "hlss3", preventing you from playing the mod with anyone that had it installed in the correct folder. This issue has been resolved now.
You should really join your like-minded sidescroller shoot-em-up friends. You can follow us on Facebook, visit our forums or even join our Steam group! Really, it's what all the cool kids are doing. And you're cool. Right?
As a final note, we are currently looking for a few new team-members to help fill our ranks. We'll gladly accept anyone with skill, but we are really looking for mappers and player modelers at the current time. Curious about applying? Get into contact with Ackart, either here on ModDB or via e-mail.
We are also looking for two specific sorts of people. A: People who run and own servers, and someone who can help us make a proper trailer for the mod. We would really like to get some new servers up for not only Beta 1, but Beta 1.5 when it comes out - and a new launch trailer wouldn't hurt, either.
Of course, we always, ALWAYS need beta testers! If you're interested, and have the free time,
please apply in this thread.
Happy fragging everyone!
