It's 1998. You've been playing sidescrolling platform games since what seems like the incarnation of computer gaming. Sure you've played Evil this, Earthquake that, but most games up until this point have lovingly involved a 2d plane. Then, games like Metal Gear Solid and Half Life come out. The face of gaming changes forever. You are happy.
It's 2008. You've been playing FPS games since what seems like the incarnation of PC gaming. Your three hundred dollar graphics card renders in multiple shades of brown. Your monitor can display 32 million colors of retina-burning blooming brown. You've been to underground temples, sewers and caves (brown), ww2 trenches and ruined cities (brown) and post apocalyptic wastelands (brown). It's time for a change.
A sidescrolling, platforming multiplayer deathmatch - A randomly dispersed armory of more than twenty classic and original weapons from across the history of fragging and levels that capture the true essence of a sidescroller: Insane and without logic.
Utilizing the latest Valve Source engine, Ragnarok Arena Remastered aims to bring you the latest and greatest in sidescrolling deathmatch gameplay. Featuring larger maps, vibrant graphics and crowd pleasing technologies that have been around since 2004, RAR aims to bring Ragnarok Arena kicking and screaming into the twenty first century. And best of all, if you own any Source game that supports the Source SDK Base; well, you can play RAR. No Orange Box required! And no longer is it a simple remastering, this is the sequel to sidescrolling insanity.

I Tell you what, I'm a bit of an impatient nerd. If things had gone my way, you all would have the latest version of Ragnarok Arena Remastered. Unfortunately, the version I uploaded had a small bug (Every time you shot someone, the server crashed) that would have probably been overlooked by the general public, but the team just demanded that I fix it.
But, what exactly is Ragnarok Arena?
A sidescrolling, platforming multiplayer deathmatch - A randomly dispersed armory of more than twenty classic and original weapons from across the history of fragging and levels that capture the true essence of a sidescroller: Insane and without logic.

This has all happened before and will happen again, and again.
Fortunately, I listened to the voice of reason and the new beta is being released in the time frame of now. What'd we add? Well, I can summarize the list with a few simple words: A few things.
Changelist wrote:
- Moved to the latest Orange Box SDK, thus implementing proper third person animations
- Proper teamplay added with identifiable teams
- Weapon Added: Sawed Off Shotgun
- Older weapons balanced and tweaked
- Six new player models for the new teams
- Five new maps, three old maps tweaked
- Numerical health value re-added, image based health bar nixed
- Loadout menu added, most weapon pickups removed from maps
- Plus a handful and a half of bug fixes
Now, I know what you're saying to yourself RIGHT NOW. "Damn it, the original release was okay, but it had no servers." Fortunately, we have that covered with at least three dedicated, stable servers running right now with a new dedicated server archive released alongside the mod.
Now, a special treat for those of you who enjoy social contact while playing your game. I'll be holding a Skype conference with the team and anyone who wishes to drop by while playing the mod throughout all afternoon on Friday, April 10th. Look for us around 4PM Central Standard Time and extending off late into the night.

I played by myself for a little bit since there wern't any servers around. A suggestion i would have would be to allow the character to look the other way by using the mouse instead of the A or D key. I feel that that would add alot more dynamics in gameplay. Also rocket jumping.
I got it and played by myself for a little bit before uninstalling. It's like so 1 server, no players right now. Brilliant gameplay, but no one cares. :(

Hilarious intro up there, and loving the C&C death screams (and the whole idea of course). Reminds me of Soldat, will definitely give this a try.
