Ragnarok Arena is a sidescrolling multiplayer shooter developed on the Source Engine. Gameplay is brutal and fast paced, with realism being thrown to the side in exchange for adrenaline-fueled arcade action. Relive the joy of playing in the style of older titles like Mega Man, Contra and Metal Slug with friends in eye-popping HD, and with a new control scheme custom-tuned for a keyboard and mouse.

Hey, you. Are you a mapper? Are you looking to do something a bit different? Perhaps you're looking for a different perspective to map from. Well, allow me to introduce you to Ragnarok Arena!
In case you haven't figured it out yet, Ragnarok Arena is a sidescrolling game built on the Orange Box engine. It's multiplayer focused, with the headlining gamemodes for Beta 1 being your classic Free For All, Team Deathmatch and Capture the Flag. Gameplay is frantic and reminiscent of old-school shooters. If it moves, you should probably shoot it until it stops.
Ragnarok Arena isn't a newcomer to the community, either. In one form or another we've been around the bend, having released our Half-Life 1 version in late 2006, a version which went on to win the Editor's Choice Old School Award from ModDB. The Source version, Ragnarok Arena Remastered, was our Source testbed as we fiddled with the Orange Box, and it shows with build quality that was less than superb. Still, it's the project that keeps us coming back time and time again for one simple reason: It's fun. It's not only a blast to play, it's actually pretty enjoyable to work on as well.
So why start again? Aside from the fact that it's a great project to work on for us, we've been able to take all the criticisms from previous releases and iron out something that I'd like to call the "True" spirit of Ragnarok Arena... if I even knew what it was. Really, we just have a very clear idea of what we want to do now, and we're doing it. We'd just like your help as well.
So! If you're interested, or simply think I'm a raving lunatic, I'd like to hear from you! I can probably be reached the easiest at my E-Mail, firstname.lastname@example.org. Please include examples of previous work.
Since 2002 we have explored, played and enjoyed mods of all shapes and sizes just like Ragnarok Arena. We love games like Half-Life 2 that have opened themselves up to modding. Because of communities like Steam Workshop, Nexus, Curse, RTSL, GameBanana and Mod DB, more games support modding today than ever before.
Whether it is for fun, for laughs or for the challenge, modding is what sets PC gaming apart from our closed off friends in the console and mobile gaming worlds. And based on the recent outpouring of support for mods after the concept of paid modding was explored, we are not alone in our love for mods and open platforms that embrace them.
As mods play a bigger role in the future of gaming, we believe it is important to recognize the effort the teams behind the work put in, giving us countless hours of enjoyment while asking nothing in return. We have the power to change our games and that needs to be celebrated to ensure it remains a big part of PC gaming's future.
Nothing is more motivating than knowing something you've built kicks-ass. So this week if there is a mod you love on Mod DB (or anywhere else), make the effort to shout out to them, mention and link their mod in a tweet, blog, forum or facebook post with the hashtag #modlove2015 (or click the icons above for a pre-built post).
To thank those who participate in spreading the love and awareness, we have partnered up with many awesome mod-friendly games (Killing Floor 2, Mount & Blade Warband, Space Engineers, Insurgency, Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, Black Mesa, Contagion, Amnesia - get involved) & have hundreds of keys to giveaway. To win one of the games, after you have linked to a mod on Mod DB (or anywhere else) in a tweet, blog, forum or facebook post, let us know by leaving a comment with a link to your post. At the end of the week we shall be picking members at random who followed these rules, and will send them a key from one of these games.
