FAQ

Q: What is Quake: Source?
A: Quake: Source is the original Quake shareware edition (demo) as a Half-Life 2 mod.

Q: Will I be able to play cooperative with my friends?
A: Possibly. We're aiming for singleplayer only, but there'll probably be an update later on adding multiplayer.

Q: Will the graphics be good?
A: It's a port, so the textures and models are the same. Source features such as HDR and detail textures will be used, making Quake look up to date.

Q: Can I help with this mod?
A: Yes, we need a coder to port/create Quake weapons and NPCs.

if im not mistaken, isnt porting the textures right from the original game illegal so to speak?

I just wanted to say copyrights and trademarks can be a tricky issue. Even if you do create/edit something for free, it's possible the "owners" could still sue you. In the case of id, I really doubt they're gonna try and sue you until you do massive amounts of work or just theft. I'm taking a guess that they will attempt to have you hault your work though. I'd suggest making "DeathMatch Classic" instead. It's just a name, afterall...

also, i hate to say it but this also looks like a rip of our mod 'idea' to rebuild so to speak, and ive already sent you a PM, however, if something is not worked out then i may have to take action as this could cause some controversy over mod names and the such, sorry =o

Honestly it would make sense for you guys to combine forces and have a bigger team to work with I mean you guys just want to remake quake so it's not like you're going to run into any directional conflicts since it's all laid out for you.

oh and for the record, aslong as you don't own the rights to quake, which you'll never will, you don't have any chance in taking any kind of action in anyway. gawd this post made me ****** off. Acting like quake is yours. If I wanted to I could recreate quake 1 myself and there'd be nothing you can do about it.

This mod has as many rights to exist as yours does. I hope you didnt actually ask this mod to halt it's developement. You honestly don't think that you're the only person to come up with the idea of recreating an old game right? I mean have you ever noticed how many times doom's been redone on various engines? anyway goodluck with this mod, since to me it actually looks like quake. The only problem i can see is using source in the name. I don't think Valve likes that very much since black mesa, who once had source in it's name where asked to remove it.

Black Mesa (the actual thing) is probably copyrighted or something. Valve could care less about tiles that have nothing to do with Half-Life, E.G. Zombie Panic! Source and Jailbreak: Source.

Except that Valve has stated that they're looking forward to Black Mesa, which means that they're fine with it.

Black mesa was once called Black Mesa: Source. Valve IS ok with the mod, but they where asked to remove the source part.

maybe, but they came up with their own names, as in quake is a clear refference towards a game made by another studio. I never stated that they will make a problem out of this, i'm just saying... I don't know how the copyright issues work, but there is something there to do perhaps about intelectual copyright infringement.

I see no reason why they should cancel this mod. Your mod is a "rebuild" and this is more like a port. I hate to say this, but a rebuild like yours take much more time to make and this one will have the quake atmosphere better than your rebuild. So you could say; your rebuild is inefficient and this mod is more efficient to remake Quake (and that is the reason for making this mod right? To make an engine improvement for Quake1).

i never said they should cancel it, i thought that there would eb a conflict so i asked a moddb staff member for a second opinion, end of story

"So you could say; your rebuild is inefficient and this mod is more efficient to remake Quake"

do you realise how silly that sounds? and IMO it looks like these map were converted from the original game itself and ported right to Source, which as far as i know is illegal

just because someone DOES a rebuild does not automatically mean it is INNEFICIENT

and looking at your profile, you havent worked on any mods, so id say your point is quite invalid

"just because someone DOES a rebuild does not automatically mean it is INNEFICIENT", idd, but I've seen pictures from your mod, and I've to say that this mod looks alot better.

"and looking at your profile, you havent worked on any mods, so id say your point is quite invalid", actually, don't go off topic. And, moddb isn't the only mod site on the internet, so first think before you post something.

well gee quite obvious that this isnt the only mod site hey, did you really think i was that simple? pathetic

and for the record, porting original game maps right to another game engine without obtaining permission to do so is illegal, do you want to tell me it isnt silly now?
