Portal Gun (Handheld Portal Device) is a device that creates an inter-spatial portal (wormhole) in the level.

It is quake version of the gun from game Portal (part of Orange box) by Valve.

The latest state of source code is hosted on Github.com


Idea is simple: fire with the portal gun to the desired locations to open first and second portal. Now, the wormhole is created between them. You can enter it, or close it down, or even toss some objects through.
This mod tries to simulate (poorly) the physic as seen in original Portal game. That means, when you enter the first portal, your velocity and angles is restored on the other side of wormhole.
This allows you to do big jumps using gravity, and other tricks. Teleporting of pickups is possible, which allows interesting strategies (like gathering pickups on one place and the pick them all up at once; or reaching distant items just by shooting at them).


Controls are defined in autoexec.cfg. It's inspired by wecreatestuff's version of the game:

[p] - unsheathe portal gun.
[q] - fire blue portal.
[e] - fire yellow portal.
[f] - grab item.
[w][s][a][d] - movement.

Hello,

I've decided to put the source code on github.com and continue maintenance from there.

hi.
school is over, so finally I have some time to work on this mod...
some two guys from texas made some very clever maps, so we gonna build on that. get eager for some chambers :)

also I have to fix the gun model, the texture bug is so flagrant!

I'm quite keen to be mapping for you, I'll send a small .bsp in a zip for you to have a look at my handi-work. The reason you dont want to just carve a space out of another block to make a room is because the carve tool can create tiny-tiny-tiny leaks which suck and cause slowness where a box made surface by surface will be tidy and not spill the games playable area into the infinate void ...hence slowness.

Ok folks, new version (2.1) released. I fixed some bugs and removed the epic portal gun model (is way too high-poly for classic quake); so now it looks like rocket launcher temporarily. That should fix those crashes, you've been reporting.
I hope it'll work on as many engines as possible. Please, report, if it causes crash on yours. (so far tested on dosquake and quakespasm)

This doesn't work for me-- it shows the demo at the beginning and the maps load, but when i press "P" absolutely nothing happens. Am i doing something wrong?

It's probably bug. What engine are you using? I target this mod on original DOSQUAKE - other engines are most likely to be buggy.

The only problem is gun model, which appears to freeze lots of engines...
