Installation: Easy as breathing. Just copy and paste two original files from your Quake CD into a given folder, run the vispatcher. After that just copy and paste these two files in another given folder and you are done and ready to play. I personally hate it when I have to read several instructions of how to get amod running. Not with this mod - its like plug and play. Graphic: It is one of the best graphics quality ever seen on a Quake Mod. Especially the new shadow effects are bringing a whole…

Well...how to install and play it ?
Just wanted to express my thanks for the constant support to this excellent Quake HD mod.
Okay - just realised my water is waaay too transparent and looks nothing like the screenshots...I've tried changing opacity levels in case that worked but no dice. Any suggestions?
Bingo - for some reason I just had to type "r_water 1" into the console in game...strange but well worth it. Looks great.
Conversation with myself is now complete.
I am pretty sure 'r_water 1' is by default in config.cfg. You had to experiment with it and disable it: 'r_water 0' without removing DP_water.pk3 → ugly water.
If you remove DP_Water.pk3 and type 'r_water 0' in console → no shader, performance gain and water texture opacity slider will work.
Yeah, "r_water 1" was already in the config.cfg - I checked that first. Still, typing it into the console in game seemed to work out my problem for some reason...Doesn't make sense to me but doesn't matter as it's all fine now :-) Thanks again
Really excellent work. Stoked to be able to really enjoy Quake again. Exactly what I was looking for!
I downloaded and unpacked the mod, read the readme, and I can't find any .pk3 file and there is an id1 file in both the mod and Quake itself. I'm using the Steam Version of quake.
There are “Quake_HD” and “Quake” folders, do not confuse them.
The "Quake" one has no mods in it and contains the most faithful source ports.
I've added it because I wanted encourage first timers to try unaltered original.
If you want what you see on the screenshots here, you are interested in “Quake_HD”.
Below are installation instructions copied from the included readme:
Copy PAK0.PAK and PAK1.PAK files from Steam\steamapps\common\quake\id1\ to VISpatch\id1\
Execute VISpatch\id1\vispatch.exe to make dynamic objects visible under water surface.
Move into Quake_HD\id1\ folder vis-patched PAK0.PAK and PAK1.PAK files.
Execute Quake_HD\darkplaces-sdl.exe to play.
Which step is not clear ?
You need original .PAK files. You don't have to do anything with .pk3 files.
.. is it worth it ?
