Installation: Easy as breathing. Just copy and paste two original files from your Quake CD into a given folder, run the vispatcher. After that just copy and paste these two files in another given folder and you are done and ready to play. I personally hate it when I have to read several instructions of how to get amod running. Not with this mod - its like plug and play. Graphic: It is one of the best graphics quality ever seen on a Quake Mod. Especially the new shadow effects are bringing a whole…

I gotta say - this is an awesome visual upgrade. Love the torches and open flames.
I look forward to integrating this with my latest mod: Moddb.com
Thank you for this great and easy-to-install mod.
I play the Quake Steam version. Without HD Pack Mod i have access to all the episodes. But i cannot play the three others through the mod?!.. I got this message: "Only Registered users can play... after Episode 1 is achieved".
It's done, so how can i have access to the 3 others ?
Thank you for your help and, again, great job !
The start map also contains a special trigger with this message:
"you haven't registered quake!\n\ncall 1-800-idgames to unlock\nthe full game from cd-rom\nor for mail delivery."
If you are seeing that open the console (with ~) and type: "registered"
If that variable is not "1", you are in the shareware mode - the root cause is the same as the next comment. The game engine did not see gfx/pop.lmp and did not set "registered" to "1". Unless the HD pack has a bug.
Registered Quake comes with a file - pak1.pak.
That contains gfx/pop.lmp and the rest of the registered game media.
This key file tells the quake engine you are running the registered version.
I'd gather that however the HD pack is installed is hiding pak1.pak (or gfx/pop.lmp if you extracted pak1) from the game.
Many thanks for these explanations. I have a full registered version, so i have full access to the four episodes by running GlQuake, DirectQuake, WinQuake...
Going to try to extract the pop.lmp file and will let you know.
Have you followed setup instructions from the beginning of QHD_v1.29_README.pdf ?
Did you vispatch and copy PAK1.PAK into 'Quake HD Pack\id1\' folder ?
Yes i did. But the PAK1.PAK wasn't into /id folder. I was sure it was... Now all is ok. Works fine.
Great mod ! I re-discover a game who gave me so many good time ;-)
Very nice by the look of the screenshots, I've just installed it and I'm about to test it, and I must say it's a little annoying to install it. I can do it very easily and I like the way it is, but there is people who can't go trough this process due to computing knowledge, windows knowledge or whatever kind of other knowledge, so I suggest to make perhaps 3 versions each one to certain video card memory amount, for newbies, of course keeping the current download for people like me.
The only knowledge that is required, is how to copy files and execute a program without being provided with a shortcut.
User have to just copy two files with original game data into vispatch folder and run once an executable to patch them. Then copy them into this pack and portable multiplatform Quake HD setup is ready to use.
If someone managed to get the pack running, then copying compressed textures packs if needed, shouldn't be a problem. Only users with older graphics cards will want them anyway ( about 10% of people downloading this pack ).
I don't use linux or macOS, so I can't prepare and test multiplatform installer and making Windows only installer is out of the question. Having to provide a path to original Quake data during installer work would be exactly as much hassle as copying them manually anyway.
The way the pack is arranged will change to be more user friendly in the next release and the readme will be shorter. For mine and majority of users convenience, installation will stay as it is, though.
Look at the bloody readme
