Welcome to Project Reality: Battlefield 2 (aka PR:BF2), a free to download game modification for the Battlefield 2 (aka BF2) retail Windows PC game. The focus of this mod is to rework the original game engine developed by Digital Illusions of Sweden (Dice) within legal and feasible constraints to create a more realistic combat environment for the gaming community. This includes adjusting various game play elements including physics, visual effects and overall game play formats. Along with changes to how the game handles, the Project Reality team has been introducing British, Insurgent, IDF forces, Canadian, and Russian factions, plus a number of community assisted factions are currently in the works to introduce even more factions to the virtual battlefields. This Mod is not for the masses, due to the fact that it has a much higher learning curve then your classic arcade game. This is the real deal.

The Project Reality team comprises a group of dedicated individuals, several of whom have backgrounds in armed services and whose sole task is to provide researched material, including statistical information, to the developers. These are in turn tasked with coding and creating the mod itself. If you are looking for a fact based first person shooter from the perspective of a combat soldier, you need not look any further.

If you haven't been living under a rock for the last few months, you may have heard the news that GameSpy will be shutting down online services for Battlefield 2 at the end of this month.

Shortly afterwards, Electronic Arts announced via their Origin Twitter that they were working on transitioning Battlefield 2 so that it would still be playable after the shutdown. However, contrary to their original statement, they recently announced that they would not be doing this, and that Battlefield 2 online services would be shut down at the end of June.

Have no fear though! Ever since the original announcement from GameSpy, the Project Reality Team has been hard at work on developing our own solution to keep Project Reality: BF2 online, and our players playing. In partnership with the Forgotten Hope 2 team, we have quickly developed our own custom master server, and I am happy to confirm that Project Reality: BF2 (and Forgotten Hope 2) will continue to be playable online after the GameSpy shutdown.

The update that will provide this new functionality will be released in our upcoming v1.2 patch, scheduled to be released before the shutdown occurs. Not only does it replace the GameSpy online services with our own, it also includes the Dutch Forces, several new maps, as well as loads of tweaks and improvements.

For the regular players of PR:BF2, the only difference you will notice with the new online services is that upon updating to v1.2, your existing player profiles will be deleted, and you will be required to make a new online account if you wish to play online. The account management system in the PR:BF2 Launcher, the ingame server browser, and PRSPY will continue to function as normal.

As we're nearing our 10th year since Project Reality was founded, we look forward to seeing Project Reality: BF2 continue long into the future!

How come I downloaded All required PR files and I still don't have Insurgency?
Is Insurgency only for MP?
How come all my SP maps don't have Tanks, Vehicles and Aircraft?

Thanks in advance.

There were vehicles and aircraft last time I played SP, BTW on Friday 0.9 comes out with singleplayer/coop integrated into the main package.

Insurgency is multiplayer only due to the fact that the AI is BF2 AI and thus is unable to handle complex tasks like that, and if they did set it up the coalition would instantly know seeing as they need some goal to go to. With the idea being for players to search the region for the caches, it would be ruined (also, the AI insurgent forces would lose VERY quickly, seeing as they'd use 3rd gen. warfare, when they need to use unconventional warfare to win).

It's been long since I played PRSP, but I don't think they included vehicles, since the AI always tries to solo, which is impossible in PR (seeing as they don't know to switch from driver to gun, which needs a driver anyway), well tanks and infantry vehicles. I remember some maps had helis, but the AI would solo in it (like a transport Huey) and crash somewhere (remember, BF2 AI). With PRs focus on realism, I'm pretty sure the AI couldn't do crap with the planes, which require actions like taxiing and landing eventually.

The jets were slightly modified for AI use, so they were able to take off and fight. But they would just continue until they crashed instead of landing.

Yo, idea for a map: Kashmir. Have Indian and Pakistani soldiers fight each other, with plenty of artillery shells lobbed from each side.

yeah ive always wanted them to make a game mode which is like bloody sunday like the brits have to go around destroying all the hidden plans and explosives a bit like insurgentcy but the protestant have very limited weapons and mainly use rifles and chucks tones where the brits get jeeps and that

I think he might be confusing 'British' with 'Irish', if this is so, he is a moron.

The BF2 engine on its edge... the BF2 gameplay reformed and finally promotes real teamwork. If you search for challenges in tactics and adrenaline boosted firefights this is the FPS game you search. For me it worths to buy BF2 (if you haven't yet) just to experience this mod. The extra content and the gameplay that is provided through Project Reality makes me to feel that PR is not a mod but a whole new game you can have for free. From Clan's experience perspective it is a must for every player…

Overrated! Not noob friendly. Great concept, terrible manual, tutorials, and controls. Half the time people don't even know what they're doing. Half the time you don't even know what you're doing. Pretty much follow a bunch of other people to get killed. The bots are excellent at shooting and killing you so it gives no room for even newbies to learn. The game is made so complex that it totally destroys the gameplay. Half the time you're running around in huge maps and when you finally make it somewhere…
