Welcome to Project Reality: Battlefield 2 (aka PR:BF2), a free to download game modification for the Battlefield 2 (aka BF2) retail Windows PC game. The focus of this mod is to rework the original game engine developed by Digital Illusions of Sweden (Dice) within legal and feasible constraints to create a more realistic combat environment for the gaming community. This includes adjusting various game play elements including physics, visual effects and overall game play formats. Along with changes to how the game handles, the Project Reality team has been introducing British, Insurgent, IDF forces, Canadian, and Russian factions, plus a number of community assisted factions are currently in the works to introduce even more factions to the virtual battlefields. This Mod is not for the masses, due to the fact that it has a much higher learning curve then your classic arcade game. This is the real deal.

The Project Reality team comprises a group of dedicated individuals, several of whom have backgrounds in armed services and whose sole task is to provide researched material, including statistical information, to the developers. These are in turn tasked with coding and creating the mod itself. If you are looking for a fact based first person shooter from the perspective of a combat soldier, you need not look any further.

If you haven't been living under a rock for the last few months, you may have heard the news that GameSpy will be shutting down online services for Battlefield 2 at the end of this month.

Shortly afterwards, Electronic Arts announced via their Origin Twitter that they were working on transitioning Battlefield 2 so that it would still be playable after the shutdown. However, contrary to their original statement, they recently announced that they would not be doing this, and that Battlefield 2 online services would be shut down at the end of June.

Have no fear though! Ever since the original announcement from GameSpy, the Project Reality Team has been hard at work on developing our own solution to keep Project Reality: BF2 online, and our players playing. In partnership with the Forgotten Hope 2 team, we have quickly developed our own custom master server, and I am happy to confirm that Project Reality: BF2 (and Forgotten Hope 2) will continue to be playable online after the GameSpy shutdown.

The update that will provide this new functionality will be released in our upcoming v1.2 patch, scheduled to be released before the shutdown occurs. Not only does it replace the GameSpy online services with our own, it also includes the Dutch Forces, several new maps, as well as loads of tweaks and improvements.

For the regular players of PR:BF2, the only difference you will notice with the new online services is that upon updating to v1.2, your existing player profiles will be deleted, and you will be required to make a new online account if you wish to play online. The account management system in the PR:BF2 Launcher, the ingame server browser, and PRSPY will continue to function as normal.

As we're nearing our 10th year since Project Reality was founded, we look forward to seeing Project Reality: BF2 continue long into the future!

Enjoy,
The Project Reality Team

It's also cheap from Amazon.com

Although $30 isn't a bad price for BF2 & PR.

yes it does work with Normal BF2 so u dont need any BF2 Special Forces or any booster Packs, U said theres Hitreg and bhopping problems well, its fixed in patch 1.50. Theres no patch 1.50 on disc when u buy the game so u need to install bf2 then patch 1.41 and then patch 1.50, u need to download this patch from a web site heres link - Filefront.com

anymore questions pm me or write comment here

PR got me into realistic FPS games. I bought ARMAII and Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising thinking they'd be awesome. After a short while playing I realized that these games suck. ARMAII is so buggy one could consider it a roachcoach of a game. OFDR doesnt have dedicated servers, short SP campaign and the guns move back and forth while running as if you're sprinting. Plus you cannot switch back to a weapon until you have completed its "draw sequence." Real great when it takes 10 seconds to load a round into a SMAW when you have infantry breathing down your neck. Twas a waste of 60 dollars when PR was the best, and of course the cheapest (money wise) realistic FPS out there. Don't do what I did, get PR and nothing else (of the realistic FPS genre)!

Btw, if this doesn't get mod of the year I will be flabbergasted.

PR itself is only around 3.2GB (Core and Level files).

All else you need is the 1.41 and 1.5 BF2 patches, which are required to play BF2 online anyway.

It's a lot of content (patches and PR) so it's worth it.

I really like this mod but I dont have BF2 (probly says something about how good it is) anyways I was wonder about the steam version, is this mod compatible with it and are there PR servers still? and on that note are there any BF2 servers still? I really want this game but even $7.50 seems like a waste if hardly no one plays =(

Theres issues with PR on the Steam version ATM but are being resolved in the upcoming PR release (0.9).

As for players/servers, both BF2 and PR have plenty still:

The BF2 engine on its edge... the BF2 gameplay reformed and finally promotes real teamwork. If you search for challenges in tactics and adrenaline boosted firefights this is the FPS game you search. For me it worths to buy BF2 (if you haven't yet) just to experience this mod. The extra content and the gameplay that is provided through Project Reality makes me to feel that PR is not a mod but a whole new game you can have for free. From Clan's experience perspective it is a must for every player…

Overrated! Not noob friendly. Great concept, terrible manual, tutorials, and controls. Half the time people don't even know what they're doing. Half the time you don't even know what you're doing. Pretty much follow a bunch of other people to get killed. The bots are excellent at shooting and killing you so it gives no room for even newbies to learn. The game is made so complex that it totally destroys the gameplay. Half the time you're running around in huge maps and when you finally make it somewhere…
