Welcome to Project Reality: Battlefield 2 (aka PR:BF2), a free to download game modification for the Battlefield 2 (aka BF2) retail Windows PC game. The focus of this mod is to rework the original game engine developed by Digital Illusions of Sweden (Dice) within legal and feasible constraints to create a more realistic combat environment for the gaming community. This includes adjusting various game play elements including physics, visual effects and overall game play formats. Along with changes to how the game handles, the Project Reality team has been introducing British, Insurgent, IDF forces, Canadian, and Russian factions, plus a number of community assisted factions are currently in the works to introduce even more factions to the virtual battlefields. This Mod is not for the masses, due to the fact that it has a much higher learning curve then your classic arcade game. This is the real deal.

The Project Reality team comprises a group of dedicated individuals, several of whom have backgrounds in armed services and whose sole task is to provide researched material, including statistical information, to the developers. These are in turn tasked with coding and creating the mod itself. If you are looking for a fact based first person shooter from the perspective of a combat soldier, you need not look any further.

Just a rediculously well done game. Each release they are doing revolutionary things that even NEW games aren't even close to, let alone mods. The teamwork is insane at times. I've played the commander position before with a whole team of guys working together and it's truely like an RTS/Chess game. You have attack squads, defenders, Heli squads (2 guys doing all the insertion/extraction on your command)....it is just amazing. The combat only gets better and its incredibly unique and unforgiving. There is an incredible amount of depth in here where its not just the best fast twitch player that gets the win...but the cohesive squad the turns the tide. Then imagine two squads working together with patience and teamwork: Tank supporting the front line, infantry spotting the bad guys with Heli support in the back dropping hell fires on spotted targets the infantry calls out. The game is too good and the community supports it above all else...its like 2000 guys helping to make a mod...and the Developers really listen work with its members expereinces/suggestions. The best.

That just goes to show, it is THE Teamwork mod. It really is the only mod that changes gameplay for the better. Most other mods just make things look pretty and create a huge imbalance.

This mod is the work of some very gifted people, filled not only with those with the talent for attention to detail in making models, sounds etc realistic and atmospheric, but people who are obviously skilled at finding the right balance when it comes to gameplay. That's the key to this mod. It's not simply a matter of producing something which looks "pretty" on your screen, but a mod which gives you unparalled gaming fun.
Introducing assymetrical gameplay I can't imagine is easy, but it works brilliantly in this mod and adds so many different angles to play, keeping it exciting, challenging and fresh.
It combines the best elements that came with the original game and enhances them, while adding a plethora of new gameplay elements. One of my personal favourites is the new ability to build assets giving an almost C&C pitch on the game. These elements combined with an ethos of creating a realistic and teamwork orientated atmosphere have obviously bred a fairly unique and hard to find group of people. Those who prefer to work for the good of the team and not just their personal score. I've yet to see that mentality on this large a scale anywhere else, game or mod. You do have to pick your server carefully (experience will eventually tell you where to go) but joining VoiP squads more often than not delivers a gaming experience unmatched by any other game, past or present.
I've been ever increasingly addicted to this mod from 0.2, and while being a part of the testing team for roughly a year I can appreciate the great lengths the devs go to to deliver an exceptional piece of gaming experience for us all. They'd be worthy winners this year for the mod of the year award.
I look forward to 0.7 and all that comes after.

there will be a full installer for v0.7, too many changes from v0.61 to be worth while to make a patcher :)

The BF2 engine on its edge... the BF2 gameplay reformed and finally promotes real teamwork. If you search for challenges in tactics and adrenaline boosted firefights this is the FPS game you search. For me it worths to buy BF2 (if you haven't yet) just to experience this mod. The extra content and the gameplay that is provided through Project Reality makes me to feel that PR is not a mod but a whole new game you can have for free. From Clan's experience perspective it is a must for every player…

Overrated! Not noob friendly. Great concept, terrible manual, tutorials, and controls. Half the time people don't even know what they're doing. Half the time you don't even know what you're doing. Pretty much follow a bunch of other people to get killed. The bots are excellent at shooting and killing you so it gives no room for even newbies to learn. The game is made so complex that it totally destroys the gameplay. Half the time you're running around in huge maps and when you finally make it somewhere…
