Project HDTP is a High Definition Texture Package for the original Deus Ex game. The original in-game textures were of a very low resolution, some textures even being as low as 32x32. However, it was discovered that it is possible to increase the resolution of those textures to a maximum of 256. This has been tested in-game and we have witnessed the start of a massive graphical overhaul. Features: 1. All new remodelled and retextured Objects. 2. Objects will sport a high resolution of 256. 3. Brand new character models and matching high resolution skins. 4. Character models are more individual. For example each guard/trooper type will now have its own model instead of using the generic one. 5. Character models now have their own fingers (removing the 'mittens' effect). 6. Models that require animation will be full animated from scratch to compliment the higher quality feel. 7. Characters look darker and more moody to enhance the game play experience. 8. Vehicle models and weapons...

A quote from the artist:
"I'm still making changes to his
costume at this point, but the Face is, in my
opinion, there. I am very restricted in what I can
do with this skin, because I am not allowed to
modify the UV map or mesh in any way (so that the
Paul skin will fit on the JC model to save work
getting it into the game) So keep that in mind
when you're looking at it."
Bravery is not a function of firepower. Right, Paul?
Why are all of textures mirrored? To save work?
Because we only have a 256x256 pixel square to work with. The engine does not allow for anything higher than that. If we mapped the entire body, it would probably look no better than the originals.
Unfortunately, that's not entirely true.
The simple reason is that it's UV efficient. I didn't do the UV maps myself, Phas did. But he chose to use mirroring quite extensively. On the one hand, it limits some of the things we can do, but on the other hand it speeds up the process quick alot, and makes my job simpler.
So yeah, i guess you could say "to save work" .
That too ;)
But I stick by what I said. It would still reduce the quality greatly.
I do not at all mean to offend the artist with my critique, but something doesn't look right about Paul's facial hair. Maybe it's too...perfect? Aside from that, I commend you on the work. He and JC definitely look like twins this time, and I'm sure that's no coincidence. ;)
he looks a little bit too similar to 'Bill Nighy' (from underworld) but other than that i'd have to say you guys did a better job modelling paul than the one in deus ex: invisible war (especially taking the engine limitations into account) :)
<3 Delicious. I think he looks a tad bit old, but otherwise... x0mv
perfect
I duno, that facial hair is pretty deadly looking, wouldnt mind growing a beard like that myself.
