Project East is the Codename for a mod for The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle Earth II: The Rise of the Witchking RTS game.

This mod involves a realm of Middle Earth that is outside the 'normal' Middle Earth we've seen in most of the Tolkien Maps and the topics not discussed in the books or the movie.

The project officially started in March 2007 and concept drawings are the first stages of the mod. This process should take perhaps a couple of weeks given the newly-founded team of three members. Some help will be needed in modeling the units. The structures haven't proven to be much of a problem as of yet.

As of this update, this is Day 5 of the modding effort. The project's 'mini-site' within the Phoenix Galactic Alliance Project Site will be operational as of Noon on March 26.

Project Leaders:

  • brobrodeel

  • Agent_Hunter

Project Webmaster:

  • Pallando (Joshua, The Phoenix)

Project Historian:

  • Pallando

  • brobrodeel

Concept Artists:

  • mcfishstick

  • Agent Hunter

  • Pallando

  • 3 more needed after Preliminary Phase completion

Coding and scripting:

  • Pallando

  • chrisbolling2

  • Agent Hunter

  • 1 more position offered, 3 more needed after phase 1 completion

Music and Sound Artists:

  • moog

Needed Project Members:

  • Integrator: People who will integrate the materials from other team members into the game to test them, fix them, do last-minute enhancements, and finally integrate them successfully into the project's main ini files.

  • Contingency Officer: Someone who will keep a backup of the mod's versions so that if any changes that have been made are faulty, the modding team may be brought back to where the error was first encountered. A backup of every INI file must be done everytime, for instance, a new unit or structure is added.

Project Members needed through each phase:

  • Preliminary Phase: Concept Drawings and model concepts for one race.

  • Phase 1: Concept Drawers: For structures (2 races assigned to each concept drawer).

  • Phase 1: Concept Drawers: For units (2 races assigned to each concept drawer).

  • Phase 1: Concept Drawers: For heroes, powers used, sprites for weapons, etc. Someone can also add a custom-made map for Eastern Middle Earth that is updated to what it would look like (this is non-canon).

  • Phase 2: Fortress Modelers: Specifically for testing initial models. These also must be added to the game's configuration before completion.

  • Phase 2: Fortress Textures: The first race's fortress will get the textures it needs.

  • Phase 3: Structure Modelers: People who will make the structures. 2 people will be assigned to each race, if available. Reports to the integrator and will also test his/her own enhancements in their own game.

  • Phase 4: Unit Modelers: People who will make the units and will report to the integrator to have the units added. The unit modelers themselves will test the unit in their own game to validate it. 2 people will be assigned to each race to divide and conquer.

  • Phase 5: INI Files and Balancing, along with the addition of powers and extra models for the special powers.

  • Phase 6: Heroes for each race: specifications, like above, will be given for what they should have as far as appearance, attack rate, health, powers, etc.

  • Phase 7: Re-balancing, Alpha Testing, etc.

  • Phase 8: Beta Testing, after enhancement of the materials in the mod.

  • Phase 9: Initial Beta Release.

  • Phase 10: Continued Modding: Addition of WOTR stuff for Project: East.

  • Future Releases

  • * Remember, first rule of modding is not to make due dates for the completion of the mod, only due dates for the modding materials to be completed. *

  • Comments on the mod should be taken to the mod's forum as there is not yet a comments system installed for each separate project.

Update - 2007-07-14
- The Mod's official name is now The Chronicles of Hildorien.
- moog has been added to the team as a musician.
- The Chronicles of Hildorien mod is non-canon and plot development for it is now under construction via an RPG and fanfic on the project's website.
- Work is being done on a new type of worker known as a trader who will send resources to your base on occasion. A new type of naval vessel is in the works for one race initially.

Update - 2007-07-27
- The first fortress has passed the concept stages. As the team gathers its modeling capabilities, the fortress is coming together faster than we expected. However, it will be some time before we can release it.
- As more information of the history of Middle Earth is obtained, new unit ideas are being constructed.
- The team's leader, brobrodeel, is on leave once again. Agent Hunter and Pallando are taking his place in managing new team members and getting some tasks accomplished. What was one person's idea for a mod has now become an idea for the team as well. More updates than before are to be expected.

Viruses? The site has no viruses. It just got an update, but we don't host any viruses there, or anything like that. What was the problem with the site?

Also, my msn is pga_elrond@hotmail.com. That'd be the best way to get into contact.

Sure, we can use any help we could get. I've been out for a while due to real life boundaries taking priority so not much developed in the past few months. Aside from that, I think we're ready to get going on at least doing a few things.

The mod changed its name to Chronicles of Hildorien, but when the team's leader went inactive, I had to take control, but couldn't after a while given some situations in real life. So we've had no progress on that front. Most of the team has been literally learning how to mod all over again because this year's been rough. If there's not someone dying in the family, some other disaster's going on.

So we're pretty much doing what we can do at the moment with the limited time we have. Id appreciate any help you could give. Thanks.

Several major models are now nearing completion for the Dawn Republic (Orocarni faction) and new fortress walls are being made, all with new upgrades.

Composition on a soundtrack is now in progress for the first race that is to be done.

The Dawn Republic's structures will be a blend of Eastern and Mayan influence.

A new type of naval vessel is being worked on whilst the team is completing work on the walls.

It has been four months since the project first was imagined and set up. We knew it would take off at some point and though for a few months it seemed unlikely that there would be any progress, the team has banded together finally and sufficient work has been done since the middle of June. In doing some web development projects I have been unable to do much historical work on the plot line of the mod, nor have I been able to provide more updates than what has been posted here. At the moment, the Team Leader is Agent Hunter.
