Report RSS Proe'aTalus Announced!

Proe'atalus is a story driven sci-fi mod for UT3. The gameplay will have both RPG and third person shooter elements with the story being told from a first person point of view. I'm looking for help developing this mod.

Hello! My name is Dremth. You may know me from the failed Abaddon mod, or you may know me from somewhere else. Either way, it doesn't matter. I'm working on a new mod now called Proe'aTalus (prō•ā ə•tă'•lus).
Basically, it's said like: pro (like 'pro'), a (like in 'cave'), uh (like in 'rug'), ta (like in 'tad'), lus (like in 'lust'); and it's said like it's two words with the apostrophe separating the word pronunciation. If it still doesn't make sense to you, maybe I'll upload a sound clip later on.

Anyways, Proe'aTalus is a story driven sci-fi mod for UT3. The gameplay will have both RPG and third person shooter elements with the story being told from a first person point of view. This mod was very much inspired by: Space Siege, Mass Effect, and Diablo 2.

I posted a sort of 'teaser' in my images a while back and I said in the description that I wasn't going to start a ModDB page until I had quite a bit of progress into the game. I wish that this were true at the moment, but, to be honest, I'm posting this long before that. I need some help with the mod, and ModDB is a great place to find help. It's rare for people to make mods alone anymore because mod tools have become more sophisticated and modeling standards are somewhat higher than they used to be (I suck at modeling), etc, so I figured I better look for some people to help me along.

The year is 2139 and the Allied American States are deeply involved in World War 5. You are a high ranking officer in the AAS Military. You have no family, no friends, and no home. You lately began experiencing strange visions. In the year 2139, about 25% of the population has visions, but not like yours...
Ever since the end of the 21st Century, every day people started having visions as a result of a new weapons technology used in World War 4. This technology produced radiation when used. The radiation spread through the Earth which happened to activate a dormant portion of our brains. These visions were difficult to comprehend for men and women of the time because no one had ever experienced such a thing. It was like they could see what was happening in key points of the universe all at once. Many died because their weak minds could not handle the surges of information that was being forced upon them. The strong minded, however, survived. We became a new society. With the new abilities we had, we were able to become more aware of our neighbors in our universe. Soon, we developed the ability to not just watch and listen through our minds, but also to speak. We could telepathically speak to other beings throughout our universe. Not only this, but this part of our brain seemed to link us together in such a way, that we became a collective conciousness. Everyone was able to instantly speak with each other telepathically. Our spoken and written language remained only to document our existence. We had no more wars. There were never any more misunderstandings or conflicts that couldn't be negotiated within a matter of seconds. We lived and thrived entirely inside what makes humans such a great race: our minds. It was the humans true Golden Age.
Unfortunately, shortly after entering the 22nd Century, we began to be seen as a threat to an interstellar neighbor. They thought that our newly developed brains may have been progressing too fast. In 2104, we were attacked by a race that we had not ever had a telepathic connection with. We knew nothing about them, but they knew everything about us. They had stayed in the shadows of our existence and listened in on our thoughts. They knew all of our strengths and all of our weaknesses. We fought this no named race of aliens for around 2 years when people started to lose their abilities to communicate telepathically. War had weakened our minds. We were beginning to fall back into our more "primitive" states of conciousness. This alien race no longer had anything against us so they backed down. Since we were losing the war and since we were in no position to fight after losing our greatest strength, we did not continue to try and fight them.
Years went by and tensions mounted. Without our full telepathic abilities, our hunger for war was back in our nature. Around 2127, disputes arose involving certain rights to planets. Even with the vastness of space, we could not avoid war without our collective conciousness. The Allied American States along with many other nations engaged in the most heated World War that there ever was... or ever will be.
In present day, you are serving in the military. You fight for the Allied American States in World War 5. Your visions are different from the rest of the population's. They are more advanced. Not only have you formed a collective conciousness with other alien races, but your brain seems to have developed further than that. You find that when you become angry at someone, they are overwhelmed with a nausious feeling and become ill for several days at a time. Other strange things happen as well. Your dreams are not dreams anymore, they are windows to the future. You notice that you can see random bits of what is to come in the very distant future. You can't make out what it is that's happening, but every night the visions become slightly clearer.
After fighting for 12 years, you become restless. You don't want to fight anymore. Your commanding officer grants you the right to relocate to a different Earth-like planet, Aeon, so you can take a break from the fighting and chaos and still feel like you're at home.
It will take slightly longer than a day to reach Aeon. While waiting on the ship, you spend most of your time meditating, hoping to increase your telepathic abilities. You become familiar with the crew and study some of the planets close to Aeon, though nothing can take your mind off of the visions you've been having.
During the night of the first day, you have one of the visions just like you do every night, but this time it's clearer. It seems like the event that will happen is much sooner than the previous events you've forseen. You see a planet, and there is something on fire close to you. The vision shows you mangled bodies with the faces of your crew. It looks as if you are inside a small crater.
Suddenly, you are awoken by the sounds of alarms. You look around and you know that you should be dazed, but your senses seemed unusually heightened. You race to the bridge and ask your crew what's going on. They tell you plainly that the equipment is malfunctioning and that you're approaching Aeon too fast. The only thing you can think about is your vision. You sprint back to the passenger bay and strap in. You can hear explosions and gas leaking out of pipes all over the ship. You soon begin to see the outside shell of the ship glow red hot as you enter the atmosphere. Flames engulf the ship as you near closer and closer to your safe haven of Aeon. You know this can't be good, but you can't help but feel calm... and then: blackness.
You awake too see what looks like a burning fusilage and your mangled crew members surrounding you. There's no way to tell how long you've been lying on the ground for. As you drift in and out of consciousness, you hear soft whispers. You begin to see strange creatures walking toward you and the wreckage. They are talking but you can only make out small bits of information.
"That's him."
"Yes, we've waited so long."
"No, wounds are simply a physical perception."
You see one of the strange creatures bend down and look at you and say, "I see the Proe'aTalus has finally arrived."

  • CONCEPT ARTISTS
    • (!!! Top priority !!!)
  • Experienced Unreal Script Coders
  • Secondary Mappers
    • Experience with the Unreal 3 Engine necessary
  • Voice Actors
  • Experienced Modelers
    • Experience with the Unreal 3 Engine preferable
    • Texturing is a near must unless you are a phenomenal modeler. (Check out the Warm Gun mod if you want to know what I mean by 'phenomenal')

I'd really like to keep our modelers down to 1 or 2 people because with Abaddon I would lose track of what was going on in the modeling end because we had 5 or 6 modelers.
I'm currently working on the website which will have forums, so if you aren't an official modeler on the team you can submit models to be used there.

If you have a question you can always send me a PM or send me an email: Dremth@gmail.com

I'm really excited about this mod, but it can't happen without YOU!
