It's been almost four months since the release of Precursor. The mod has been downloaded over 15 000 times and I've received 112 feedback forms. Feels pretty good, actually! If you want a slightly outdated summary of all of that juicy feedback, have a look at this post over at MapCore.

Just the other day I was asked if I could answer some questions about Precursor by ModSentry's Daniel Perry. Why, of course Daniel! - Yes, we always wanted to avoid making the story too big and brash. We wanted to keep things on a smaller scale. In Precursor, you’re just a rebel, like many others, and you’re not the center of attention in the way Freeman is. Of course, we wanted your actions to have some impact on the Half Life story line, as it would be unrewarding not to. Those who’ve played the mod will know what I’m talking about.

For such a detailed and well made mod, I was surprised to see how few people had worked on it. Did you ever consider getting more people on board? Did you ever wish you had?
- As the team lead, I wanted to keep things manageable, something I’ve mentioned a bit in previous answers. Too many mods end up in limbo after protracted development. The way Precursor was going to avoid that fate was by not making it more than just a roughly hour-long Half Life 2-based single-player adventure with very little new content besides the maps. You’d still be shooting the same guys, still be wielding the same weapons and you’d still look at the same textures and wonder if it’s 2011 or not. Precursor was a first for me and it was best to keep things simple. Even with Precursor’s small team I felt a lot of pressure; I had to make content that lived up to the music and the voice acting and do that content justice, you know? And I didn’t want my own work to culminate into nothing either of course.

I only played it for about 5 seconds when i found a flaw. you need to say that it is for Episode 2, not just HL2. almost everything was purple walls and errors (the purple 'no texture' walls). I only have HL2, none of the episodes.

many mods are for the new engine and based on Episode Two even though they are listed as a HL2 mod.

This page was created as a EP2 mod, but has somehow reverted back to HL2. I have reported this to admins, but nothing has been changed as of yet.

excellent mod. enjoyed the "prototype" segment, despite its difficulty. had to restart some chapters because of insufficient health and ammo. found myself wishing for heavier weapons, though it makes sense to only carry a few things, seeing as the guns you have must take up a lot of space.

Pro's- Good Voice Acting
Great Level Design(Really smooth and flowing)
Organized and goes with he flow
Great sound design
Nice work with the hunter recharge stations
Nice work with the train parts.

Cons- Length was only an hour long
Low amount of weapons used, needs a little more diversity

Overall, a great mod, and this mod team has great potential, and the level designer is very accomplished with making maps, hopefully the next release has a longer playtime (5+ hours would be good)

very good mod enjoyed every minute of it and i cant say that about most mods, if you can please make a sequel , maybe a bit longer like over a day of gameplay worth cause its not that long

excellent hope there is another one,Hard to fault, i saw the G man.well done putting him in there, and it was pure luck, it was around the third chapter before the guys come down on the ropes and there is the APC in the yards.That is attention to detail when there is next to no chance you will see him.Great mod.Properly the best in terms of fitting into the world, next to Dangerous World.That mod lacks your sense of direction, but that one is artful in some of it's sets in a visual way.If you teamed up it would properly make the perfect mod.Hope there is a part 2.

This mod is absolutely fantastic. It's wonderfully put together, with Valve-like quality. Truly one of the best Half-Life 2 story tie-ins since Dangerous World.

I hope to see more from this team.
